Thank you for this video! I had the great honor of meeting Jeff (and Richard) this past weekend at the 2022 Tucson Gem show. I bought several pieces from Jeff and he was just as gracious as this video shows. He spent a lot of time with me, gave me great info, answered all my questions and I cherish the time I spent with him! I cant wait to set the beautiful pieces I bought from him.

Did a repair of a vintage 1967( googled the artist) native Amer spring cuff bracelet, of green kingman & mother of pearl. Over 2Toz of 925. Felt great bringing it back to life. I think that was the best turquoise commentary I ever heard. Thank you for getting that knowledge saved forever. Excellent video Dave, Jeff is a wealth of knowledge!
I worked at the Sleeping Beauty mine for 6 years in the 70s for Leonard Hardy. And also Pinto Valley (Castle Dome). Loved every minute of it! I was a cat skinner / haul truck operator and a picker. I had the privilege of finding a 64 pound super high grade mostly spiderweb nugget at Pinto Valley in what we called the C pit. Mr. Hardy made a trip out to the mine to actually see the area where the nugget came from and we met him and talked with him about getting more of it. He made a promise to the guys on our 3 crews that whoever would pull another 50 pounds of the same stuff he would give a 14k gold and turquoise watch cuff like the one he was wearing that day. (Someone was brave enough to ask him what it was worth and he said it cost him $5400.00 including the watch to have made.). Of course that spurred us to being all assholes and elbows over the next week or so trying to mine more of it. I was able to find and pull two more 5 gallon buckets out and another young man picked another bucket. Hardy was like a big kid when he saw it was such a high grade that it needed no stabilization. Each bucket weighed around 55 pounds. I worked the Pinto Valley mine another year or so before they moved the operation to Sleeping Beauty. Never saw much more of the spider web come out of PV much less of that quality. I have the watch cuff. That is a story in itself. ;0)
Holy smokes thank you so much for sharing such a fantastic story that was such a great time in turquoise history. If you don’t mind, can you send me a picture of the cuff to my phone number 772-284-4459 if it’s too much trouble, don’t worry about it. The story is so amazing you must have 1000 of those stories. Thank you for sharing my friend I deeply appreciate you.

Quite a bit of the Sleeping Beauty turquoise is stabilized with a proprietary process called the Zachary process which is not plastic and is very hard to detect. Millions of carets have been processed over the years. Check it out!
They pressurize the turquoise in a copper solution, it makes it less porous and also makes the color more intense. Samples that have Zachariah stabilization have more calcium than natural turquoise

Hello, how are you? I hope you can help me with this question since I am from Chile, how many mineral and fossil fairs are held in Tucson? Why is the gem city show different from the Gem & Mineral Show?
Hello my friend there are a few gem shows throughout the year here in Tucson however the Tucson gem and mineral show that happens in January and February which got rescheduled for April is the largest in the entire world all nations all nationalities all cultures of people come to Tucson from around the world to sell and buy goods from every corner of the planet
So it is the same Gem & Mineral Show only that the date was rescheduled, there are some places that are dedicated to wholesale but only traders can enter, but there are others that are open to the public, I would like to enter all places hahaha, but is there any way to enter all places? And thank you very much for taking the time to answer my question.
Are you trying to buy Turquoise that I bought from Jeff in this video and cut or are you trying to buy rough Turquoise from Jeff? If you’re looking to buy rough from Jeff the information is in the description section of the video If you’re looking to buy finished pieces for me you can message me via #LapidaryDave on Instagram or Facebook
Thanks for watching brother I love your channel we should collaborate on some thing I can send you something that I get here in Tucson and you can cut it and cab on your new flat lap
12:25 Thats true that the word Turquoise comes from Turkey but Turkey has no turquoise mine (also Iraq doesn't have turquoise mine). The name comes because the Turkish traders were bringing the Persian turquoise from Iran to Europe during the middle ages. I am very surprised Jeff didnt know this even though he is the godfather of turquoise in the US.
I know there’s so many different kinds of turquoise variation that even pros forget the lore sometime Where if someone specialized in one particular mine maybe they would be able to remember more easily either way this dude is surrounded by hundreds of different Types I don’t blame him for not remembering he does a good job at what he does I absolutely love Persian and Iranian Turquoise some of my favorite in the whole world

@@lapidarydave ha, aka yooperlite. There is lots of chrysocolla in the area but no turquoise. Obviously something to do with how the copper formation was created. I just don’t know what. Probably a research paper out there on the topic..
When I first walked up to the skies to check out what they had they were talking about you and how excited they were they film them he totally broke the ice and might’ve been the reason why they even agreed to chat with me I’ve been buying cutting Turquoise for over a decade and I bought what I believe or dyed howlite or magnesite Beads from the 22nd St. show 😭😭😭😭
that's awesome!! they're some cool old timers and def deserve the exposure!! LOL damn dude. I might've bought them from the same vendor.. they weren't marked as "Howlite dyed turquoise" It just straight up said turquoise.. i wasn't suspicious of anything until after watching your video, then realized its 100% dyed howlite. fml
I have some but it’s the highest grade of quality and I don’t want to cut it to sell it. I want to cut it to put into jewelry although I have a friend that sells it for $300 a pound in the average quality. I will probably get some in the future and start cutting that to sell.

Definitely I’ve never heard of pyrite inside of Kingman I know sometimes the added into some materials when it’s stabilized but in this case it’s natural very cool
Great video 🌻🌻🌻🌻
Thank you so much for watching my friend I really appreciate it it was a lot of fun chatting with Jeff best he’s awesome
Great interview - why did you cut off the last portion??
I needed this video!
Thank you so much for watching:)
I learned a lot. I hope some of it sticks to my brain.
🧠⭐️💎❤️

12:25 Thats true that the word Turquoise comes from Turkey but Turkey has no turquoise mine (also Iraq doesn't have turquoise mine).
The name comes because the Turkish traders were bringing the Persian turquoise from Iran to Europe during the middle ages.
I am very surprised Jeff didnt know this even though he is the godfather of turquoise in the US.
I know there’s so many different kinds of turquoise variation that even pros forget the lore sometime Where if someone specialized in one particular mine maybe they would be able to remember more easily either way this dude is surrounded by hundreds of different Types I don’t blame him for not remembering he does a good job at what he does I absolutely love Persian and Iranian Turquoise some of my favorite in the whole world
hey man, where was this guys booth, kino?

Thanks my friend:)
Please get one of these fluffy things for the microphone, that would improve the sound quality a lot outside.
That would definitely help
I have wondered why no turquoise was associated with the copper mining in Michigan.
I’m sure Jeff best would say that it’s there somewhere maybe if you find it you can be the first to name it if it has a good name and it’s catchy you could easily create a market for it and when you’re a millionaire you can hire me I need a job LOL
@@lapidarydave ha, aka yooperlite. There is lots of chrysocolla in the area but no turquoise. Obviously something to do with how the copper formation was created. I just don’t know what. Probably a research paper out there on the topic..
Wow didn't know turquoise spoke yet.
Does he have an actual store?
Somewhere in San Diego
Yo! I remember these guys.. that was an awesome booth for turquoise!! And.. fuck me I bought some dyed howlite 😅
When I first walked up to the skies to check out what they had they were talking about you and how excited they were they film them he totally broke the ice and might’ve been the reason why they even agreed to chat with me
I’ve been buying cutting Turquoise for over a decade and I bought what I believe or dyed howlite or magnesite Beads from the 22nd St. show 😭😭😭😭
that's awesome!! they're some cool old timers and def deserve the exposure!!
LOL damn dude. I might've bought them from the same vendor.. they weren't marked as "Howlite dyed turquoise" It just straight up said turquoise.. i wasn't suspicious of anything until after watching your video, then realized its 100% dyed howlite. fml
Where's this at I wanna buy some turqoise
tucson gemshow january thru february every year in arizona
@@lapidarydave thank you appreciate it
I wish to see some sleeping beauty turquoise
I have some but it’s the highest grade of quality and I don’t want to cut it to sell it. I want to cut it to put into jewelry although I have a friend that sells it for $300 a pound in the average quality. I will probably get some in the future and start cutting that to sell.
How are you David brother 💗💗💗💗❤️❤️❤️😂😂😂😂😂
