I was just there a week ago Monday. I had a calamari sandwich at this place. It was great. Actually got it to go and sat in Plaza Mayor and ate it. Great sauces too!
Nice vid, tks for sharing. Calamares are often taken with some fresh lemon squeezed on top. Other very traditional food from Madrid/Spain: boquerones en vinagre, callos a la madrileña, tortilla de patata, molleja, cocido (this is a full meal), patatas al ali-oli, ensaladilla rusa, etc. Maybe on your next visit ;)
Except for the Tacos place, those are some of my favourite places. Well done. The snails are all about the sauce. The way i eat them is a bit weirds but I enjoy them so much: first put the whole thing in my mouth and get as much sauce as possile, and then remove the snail from its shell. The remaining sauce is to be eaten with bread -they sure placed a little basket of bread with your snails- One of the biggest pleasures is dipping bread on the snails sauce!
I am from Madrid, and I watched this video with a smile from ear to ear. I am happy you liked the traditional food from here, you seem like a lovely couple! From all you tested, what I like the most is the Oreja de Cerdo or Pig's ear. It's soo good. And about the Snails, I know some people like them but never seen them that big! I have never tried them so big, you were very brave to eat those haha. I tried small ones once, but not a big fan of that xD.
Since ancient times, Spain and France they adopted the land snail to their local gastronomy. But it was above all in ancient Rome that these mollusks became an exquisite delicacy, at least they were the first to document it in recipes. In the Middle Ages, the consumption of snails continued to be popular, especially in Catholic countries such as Spain, France and Italy, because it was a good substitute for meat during Lent and was also easy to obtain. In fact, Pope Pius V declared them as fish so that they could be consumed. In the head of the snail the mouth, the genital orifice and the anus can be distinguished. Who, when eating them, undoes the curled part that is inside the shell (the blackest, thinnest part and for some bitter palates), at the end of the snail, believing that it is leaving the intestine, in reality it is leaving the liver (hepatopancreas), which it is the tastiest part according to some connoisseur's gourmets. What benefits does the snail have? It provides a large amount of calcium and phosphorus, necessary for good maintenance of bones and teeth. High amount of iron that helps prevent anemia. Facilitates digestion. It provides amounts of niacin that allows the assimilation of energy from other foods.
Prices have been increased *SOOO* much because of all these turists who have 4 times higher wages and are able to spend more 😕 I cannot afford eating out any longer. The last time was quite a few years ago.
Unfortunately, almost all traditional restaurants where non-tourists used to eat are now bought out by Chinese and nothing more than tourist traps. Thank you, Vox and PP! On the positive side: If I fancy going to Beijing, I can just visit Madrid instead, cheaper and with the same air of autocracy floating around.
Great Video !! Can't wait for my next holiday !

Patatas bravas,..
Te ha faltado el jamon y el queso
