@Fado.moon-wolf273 👋 hello and welcome to my channel! 😊 Wow Japan, I hope one day to visit Japan 🙏✈️🌍 I hope one day you can also visit Portugal and enjoy some port wine 🍷Portugal is a beautiful country and so much to see and explore 🥰
All the food in Porto is so good! Let me know what's your favourite food you try in Porto after your trip! And if you need any more recommendations, let me know, enjoy your trip 😊
@@theportlishlife Thank you very much! I am hoping the crowds will be manageable in Mid-November, but will find out soon enough. For restaurants, do you think reservations are a must, or was it easy to walk up and queue? I would love some nice restaurants for dinners and more laid back sandwich/Francesinha or market-type places for lunches. I dont think finding food in that city will be the issue, but finding the best food maybe, lol. Any special dinner spots or must try's?? Happy to know any recommended spots that really left a great impression. Which Port places did you visit? Or is it so plentiful you can just sample everywhere?
@macdaddymgiarc it will be quieter than the summer, but Porto is experiencing a surge in tourism in general these days. In November I don't anticipate you would have a long wait time, it depends what time you plan to eat. Restaurants get busy with locals from 2000 pm onwards. The restaurant I visited for the francesinha (Brasão) is a very popular restaurant. They have a few branches across the city. For that one I would recommend making a reservation online in advance. (A tip for you, local restaurants are considered good if they have more than one restaurant, and i am not talking about franchises, like mcdonalds! Although you should not miss the decor in the local one at Aliados!) you are there for 9 days, if one restaurant is busy I am sure you can come back and visit it another day! For Port wine tasting you can visit anywhere by the river, a lot of places will have an offer to try 5 port wines for 5euro. For markets a lot of people are going to tell you to visit mercado do bolhão, located in the city centre and recently renovated it first opened in 1837, its a traditional market selling lots of local food. You should try it but I do think it has become a tourist trap, mercado bom sucesso is where you will find more locals. A market full of traditional and contemporary food. Restaurant wise it won't be hard to find a good restaurant (don't eat at restaurants directly at the river, they are generally marked with prices directly for tourists and are not the best food!) Bulha- for the best octopus! Traditional Portuguese eats: o rápido, cana verde, casa expresso. One of my absolute favourites is casa costa (not so easy to find but worth it) a family run restaurant, you are basically eating in someone's house. A set menu (prato do dia) at lunch time is 7 euro, this is a soup, a dish of the day, a drink, a dessert and a coffee! This is a real hidden gem! Ps sorry for the long message i could talk about porto all day 😍
This is amazing info! I looked up all those restaurants while at work and they all look like the kind of place I like to frequent. Quaint and authentically Portuguese 🙂 I still have a few days of planning left but fly out this weekend. I am grateful for anything you wish to share, if you think of anything please let me know. I love that you have taken the time and shared your love of this city in your video and the comments. Getting very excited about it all@@theportlishlife
All good apart from the francesinia, horrible! Bread goes soggy in the sauce and, the rest is cheap meat and plastic cheese overload. My portuguese friend called it tourist food, she would not touch it.
Did you find a best bar or evening hang out spot? Did you find a best coffee shop for a break during the day? These are always fun to know in addition to all you have shared. Obrigado :P
The party area tends to be around the street name (Rua. da Galeria de Paris), I prefer more bars/cocktail bars, if you go to (Praça de Gomes Teixeira) its a square next to the building of University of Porto. It has many small bars. One of my absolute favourite places for a drink is BASE, (Next to the clerigos tower) I am not sure if the weather will allow it, but if there is no rain, this is a beautiful place to have a drink in the late afternoon (its outside) and watch the world go by in a very popular spot of Porto. I also really like Torto (This bar is decorated nicely inside, I found it really welcoming, a nice bit of music. not too loud, the perfect place to chill and have a drink with friends) You are going to find a lot of great coffee shops/Cafes in Porto, Portuguese people love coffee! I don't have a particular favourite, I tend to find most are welcoming, they get busy around lunch time as many locals go there for the menu of the day! Most also have really good fresh cakes! I tend to window shop, and if I like the look of the cakes in the window, I will go in :) Enjoy your trip, I look forward to hearing about it :)
@@theportlishlife This is all amazing!! you're so kind to share these with me and I will totally debrief when back from the trip. Just booked a place for a night at the Geres national park - looking forward to it too, based on your other video. I can't wait to be sitting at a cozy bar on Sunday night chilling with some great wine.....!
@macdaddymgiarc sounds great 👍 👌 I am not sure if it's near where you are staying but I went to this awesome restaurant in Gerês called, Petiscos da Bó Gusta, i cant not tell you about it. Im still dreaming of that food! I had the most amazing meat there cooked to perfection (veal/vitela!) I honestly never had meat like it!
Great Video !! Can't wait for my next holiday !

Those Brigadeiro looked amazing - Off to Porto this weekend for 9 days and plan on eating all of the things you suggested. Thank you 🙂
