Learn how to create a MOSAIC collage with gelli prints of a flamingo. In this video I'm demonstrating a step by step process of making a mosaic collage with paper. The painted papers make for an interesting mosaic that has a lot of texture.
I use 3 shades of pink papers I made myself with a gelli plate and then used a deep cradle wood panel to do my collage.

Please leave a comment if you think you do or don't have the patience to do mosaic collage. When I used to have visitors in my studio that was always the main comment people would make. "You must have lots of patience". LOL
Amazing. I did years of tile and broken china mosaic. I had the patience for that. Your shading brings this alive. Very nice.
Thank you very much! . I have patience but I hate how the chalkiness of the thinset feels on my hands. I also don't like pastels for the same reason. It's weird!
LOVE THS!
Thanks.
Wow! Cool painting/collage.❤ I wouldn’t have the patience for this. Plus this technique takes two hands and only one of mine works.
Yes, I guess two hands are required for most collage techniques. What type of artwork do you like to do? Are you familiar with Chuck Close and his story. I actually liked his work more after he lost the use of his other arm. He is truly inspiring. For him his art was therapy. Thanks for watching and commenting. 😀
This is beautiful! I think I might try this, just on a smaller scale to start!
Smaller is sometimes harder because the pieces need to be smaller and then it's hard to work with tiny pieces. Maybe have a pair of tweezers on hand. I'd love to see it if you do it.
very interesting work...and beautiful! would be interested in how you make and get your large images to transfer to larger pieces...thank you for sharing...
When I’m working large I either work from a grid or I use a projector. The grid is time consuming. You have to create a grid on your canvas and on the sketch layout. Then transfer freehand grid by grid. I recently bought a digital projector for about a hundred dollars and it works perfectly.
Love, love, love! Years ago, I was really into mosaics. Now it’s gelli printing. You’ve provided me with wonderful inspiration for combining the two AND a great use for all those gelli prints! Thank you!
You are so welcome! I used to use fabric to do mosaics and then I started gel printing. It was a perfect transition.
I’ve done paper collage, but not mosaic. Maybe I’ll try it because I love your flamingo. I also may do one in fabric because fabrics are so bright and beautiful!
I like the fabric because it's a little easier to use.
I love the depth created by using different shades of the colors! I enjoy a good jigsaw puzzle so I definitely have the patience for this but I'm going to start small and work my way up 😅
It's a great way to use your gel prints. I start with this technique using fabric. I suppose magazines would work too.
I might be able to do one small one, but not so sure about anything on a larger scale.
The first Flamingo I did was about 24x36. I did it with fabric mosaic. The fabric is actually easier to control. It did take a long time and requires patience. Thanks for watching.
Susan, do you have a video for how you prepare your wood panel/cradle board before you begin a collage or mosaic? Many thanks!
Sorry. I don't think I have. I just gesso the wood panel. 2 coats.
@@SusanCliftonArtist Many thanks! Simple enough.
Amazing 😊
Thanks. 😊
