Hi Susan. Really interesting watching you selecting prints and arranging/re-arranging them, getting those compositions just right. Particularly love the blue-green triangles print. Have you seen any of Drew Steinbrecher's videos? I've recently come across him on TH-cam/Instagram. He upcycles board books too, and has some good tips about dealing with the spines of the books so they lay flat.
Oh, this was great to watch your process! I found myself agreeing with your decisions as you went along and the end result is awesome! I want to get some of these board books to play with; going to check out some used book stores for them.
I have done the same, I have some that have a shape within the page so the child opens it to reveal what it underneath. I used black gesso to paint these inner parts so I put a contrasting gel print or image in there. I also removed two flaps to give me more room for bulk. I saved them for journal covers or whatever I need something sturdy for, lots of fun!
I have to do some research on the different type of books. That sounds interesting. I can't wait to try the black gesso. When you remove the flaps does the book fall apart? Not sure what you mean by "flaps".
@@SusanCliftonArtist oh, a couple my books have kind of a trifold situation, so you open the page and then the one on the right has a fold out, I cut it off on some pages.
I'm thinking about the best way to experiment with colors to get me out of my rut. An exercise that I can do. Probably using the gel plate to start. Maybe I'll do a video on the subject.

Hi Susan, Love your work. Thank you for sharing with us. I have to order that Catalyst wedge.
The wedge is so perfect especially if you use thin papers.

How do you fix the spine when it doesn't close after almost full... Alligator mouth? Or do you not mind them not closing?
I think I'm going to use drywall tape to affix to the spine. I'm waiting until all the pages are finished. When I do this finally I will post a video.
I saw another youtuber quirky queens journals, use childrens books and collaged them as well. Your came out fabulous.
They are perfect for collage.
Those board books are perfect for small projects! Color rut ... I'm stuck as well! Hope to see your solutions to that.
