  • Philippe Omnes is a French fencer and Olympic champion in the foil competition. On October 17, 1989, Philippe got hit by his opponent during a regular training session. The blade penetrated his neck and pierced his jugular vein. Fortunately, the carotid artery was unaffected. He underwent emergency surgery and survived. Three weeks later, Philippe Omnes courageously returned to the gym, without much fear, but with one impressive scar. Two years after the accident he, along with Marc Cerboni, Patrick Groc, Pascal Jolyot and Frederic Pietruszka won bronze medals at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The Parisian used his chance against the fantastic and unpredictable Sergei Golubitsky in the final match at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. In the third and decisive period, Philippe finely adjusted his secret weapon: the magnificent high line attack. Philippe surprised the vigilance of the Ukrainian and eventually won the most coveted medal for any athlete - Olympic gold.
