  • Peter Joppich is a five-time World Champion foil fencer from Germany. As a young child, Peter was interested in the stories of knights, especially by Musketeers that eventually encouraged him to start fencing. He won his first World Championship at the age of 21 and in 2010, he became the first German fencer to have won four individual foil world championship titles. In 2005, the timing of foil was altered, making flicking significantly more difficult. Many fencers struggled to adjust to the timing, but Joppich managed to keep his winning streak. At Olympic Games in London, Peter with his teammates Sebastian Bachmann, Benjamin Kleibrink, and André Weßels managed to win the bronze medal by winning team of USA 27:45. Peter has earned at least one medal at each World Championship from 2002 till 2011. During these years he won 13 out of 18 possible medals that include medals in teams. Joppich credits his success to former German fencer and Olympic gold medallist Ulrich Schreck. For more than 10 years, Schreck instructed Joppich during his training at the Federal Training Center in Bonn. For more than adecade Peter has belonged to the world elite in fencing and his 5 world championship titles make him one of the most successful foil fencers of all time.
