#8 Benjamin Kleibrink

Benjamin Kleibrink is an Olympic foil champion from Germany. He became the first German male fencer to win gold in individual foil at the Olympics, by winning the 2008 Beijing Games. Benjamin started fencing at age nine when his mother decided to switch from roller hockey to fencing. Klein Luis, the youngest foilist on the German team that will compete in the 2020 Olympics pays tribute to Benjamin Kleibrink: "He gives me a lot of tactical advice on how to approach a fight, how to find solutions in situations where you feel helpless... I am grateful to Benjamin Kleibrink because his advice is priceless and helps me to compete at a high level." At age 34, Benjamin qualified for the Tokyo Olympics through the team rankings. A planned end to his career has now been postponed. "He will give his best to succeed at his last Olympic Games in Tokyo," said Sven Ressel, athletic director of the German Fencing Association.
