Hearing so much excitement about single-player AI racing makes my heart SO happy, honestly. It feels like one of the most overlooked things in racing sims in the last decade overall, alongside a cool career mode with actual single player content. Both were things that Gran Turismo 7 overpromised and underdelivered on, although frustratingly the 'chill' races in GT7 are some of the best AI racing I've had in any game in YEARS. And who knows, maybe GT Sophy one day will get to this point - although in typical GT fashion it seems to be going about solving a problem in the most convaluted and auteur fashion possible, rather than Reiza just being open and honest and explaining how they will tweak regular racing game AI to make them so good and so realistic. And the fact Reiza are managing to pull that off is just wonderful - they deserve ALL the flowers.
Finally a sim not pussying out of implementing active suspension. I just hope AMS2 makes the tyres feel more 'static' and less 'flexy' or 'floaty' if that makes any sense
One of the lesser known features of AMS2, is the ability to create the same race as you just did, but as an online lobby. You can make it for just 2 or 3 people, then fill the rest of the grid with AI cars. I tried this a while back with a mate of mine at the Nordschleife, where we started at the back, then picked our way through the traffic. Was great fun.
I used to have fun with that feature with rFactor 1 and AMS1. I would be online with 2 or 3 people and then we'd add a bunch of AI and pick our way through the pack.
AMS2 keeps getting better and better, this looks fantastic. The made up names reminds me of the good old days of the original Grand Prix game by Geoff Crammond.
It is addictive to watch you race. Brilliant videos, I like the way you got into details and history, provide a lot of colour and context. Please continue doing the wonderful work
What I love as well is that the've FINALLY adjusted the head movements of all the drivers when cornering! This adds a lot of dynamics when watching replays from track cam view.
I only play iRacing but randomly stumbled upon your video, and you've absolutely sold me. I can't wait to try one of these races once the update comes out!
One of my favorite things about this sim engine is how much the track evolves over the course of a long race , you just find more and more grip and gain more and more confidence to the point it feels like the entire track is flat out , so much fun
I think we are entering another golden era of racing sims / games since the 90's early 2000's as far as AI and offline racing go, various sims and games are putting a lot of effort into AI once again and they are pushing each other to improve. The last 10 - 15 years has mostly been focussed on online racing by a lot of developers and I think many people are tired of it, it's great to see iRacing, AMS2 and Gran Turismo 7 step up their AI drivers a lot in recent times and hopefully with better career modes in future also.
I wanna let you know that you definitely sold me on AMS2 with this video, and I'm thankful for it. I was on the fence previously but I've been watching this sim slowly get better and better, and now that the AI seems to pretty much feel "alive"... well... there went my black friday money! Booting it up for the first time, I've already had the most fun in a single player race ever. Didn't even change my settings one bit. And the update hasn't even dropped yet!
I love you and Reiza. Working now but I'll watch the full video tonight. I'm in beta so I can imagine what it is this vid like. They are doing it, building consistent, real race experiences that you can rarely have in modern sims.

Thanks for posting this. I've not really paid attention to AMS2 but this 1990s mod and clearly very capable AI is a game changer. And that engine sound is taking me right back to my childhood!
And not to mention: AMS2 is amazeballs in VR! Even in ultra settings, it runs as smooth as butter, even online with all sorts of weather thrown at you!
@@UnboxRacing Very good and emmersive! Even the menus are in vr and can be manipulated with d pad inputs and a simple accept and back button, and even if you don't have a d pad, you can look around the menus and use the accept and back button to manipulate it.
I´m a sim racer since GPII. You are a F1 racer!!!! Not just drive perfect, but the narrative is the best I ever watch!!! I don´t want to meet you at the track, lol.
Would love to see how ai behaves in the rain. They used to run on a different physics engine where they could not hydroplane, so ai that you were on pace with in the dry became secinds faster in the wet.
It has been stated in the devupdate, that it has been recalibrated and AI will also avoid the rubber in the wet. How well it is calibrated remains to be seen, I am optimistic though.
I've done a little testing in the wet. It seems MUCH more balanced than it was previously, but in changing conditions it is still not perfect. The AI may slow down a bit too much in some corners which have standing water and that you can avoid, and vice versa. But I would say that it is close enough on most tracks now that its viable to have some weather in races if you want.
I've been trying the Ferrari today at interlagos. AMS2 have produced what I think will be a very popular series. The AI were good and the sounds took me back to the 90's. I didn't want to let go of the car. Awesome update
I had given up on AMS2, but I decided to go back into it and give the latest beta a try, and it's absolutely sensational. The updates to the physics, the AI, the new content, it's really worth your time. The latest custom FFB files are also really really good.
This update is going to finally get me to pick tis game up. 1993 was the season the really got me hooked into F1 and seeing these cars live really emphasized how insane they were. I have been waiting forever for a game to properly simulate this era of cars.
As one of the beta testers, it has been hell not being able to tell anyone about the changes. Now I can point league members to your video. With the tyre model updates, you will want to be gentler on the tyres at the start so the heat penetrates all layers. After a lap or so, you can really push on them without wearing them out so fast. As for 90s F1, it was a time of great teams, great racing, and great tragedy.
Recently was driving the 2017 Brazilian Stock Car championship (in AMS2 1.5.0 that is) and found myself in a field of backmarkers after my mandatory pit stop , and there was also No.3 in the championship out of position behind me. We both chased the backmarkers down and overtook them together, I never saw this anywhere offline when racing before, a unique experience for me, luckily for me he did not server his pitstop yet and broke of after some laps to pit. The planned carrer mode with series progression or whatever they plan sounds right up my alley, there is so much potential, hope they can make it happen.
I created my own 25 race Indy car season custom championship using the formula USA 2023 cars, doing full race distance or dividing track lap mileage in to 200 to determine laps. Having a blast. Set AI at 110, so some races I dominate other tracks I struggle with pace. This game rocks. I included Daytona, Indy and Fontana for the ovals, so fun for a full distance race.

@@alnagy1700I believe there are 4 different formula USA cars (indycar) from different years. I'm currently using the formula USA 2023 version, which is reiza's indy-like version for today's indydar. It came out with the 1.5 update. It is pretty fun drive, the default setup for both road course and ovals are decent. Needs a little tweaking with aero, diff and springs to get them dialed in for different tracks.
Been playing this beta for some time and the update should be officially released soon for all to enjoy. AMS2 is the only sim that comes close to GPL and Crammond F1 games for eating my time. I just hope your superb video here, goes some way to convincing the doubters who have been giving Renato and Reiza a hard time and better still new players to give this game a chance. For the record I am spending far too much time at Historic Spa and Monza 10k in the vintage F1 cars on offer in AMS2 with the mods already available. Its a great driving game. Again, fantastic video, commentary and content. Better than most real F1 races on offer for many seasons!
The footage is fantastic, and the updates look up to point. For a challenge, I'd like you to emulate what Senna did on the opening lap at Donington in 93.
Been my go to single player sim experience for a few months now, and this update is just making it better and better. Just completed a custom Formula Inter and had a great time, now setup a Formula Junior series focused on only 70's tracks (10 in total).
Man, I love your content and AMS2, I'm from Barcelona so I'm quite familiar with our circuit and just unlocked a memory with that blue star banner (it's from a bank) in the main straight like it used to have, I'm a few months older than the track itself so I never saw it in the 91 spec. And this Formula Hi-Tech is as impressive as the other open wheelers, glad it's coming!
Awesome. Its now Feb 2024. Thanks for showing this race and what the AI can do now. I do have AMS2 installed but have not spent much time with it - but I will soon. This gives me hope. The AI in AMS2 is the number 1 thing that’s stops me from playing more. AI in sim racing as a whole has been neglected for so long, it’s good to see some studios putting in effort.
I find your judgement about AMS2's AI quite astonishing. I'm not going to say you are wrong. If you think the AI (in its' current state) is bad, your opinion is of course valid. Yet I feel pretty much otherwise: For me, it has one of the best AI in modern sim racing, only second to iRacing's (which is yet unmatched). But still way better than most other sims on the market. As much as I like AC and ACC for example, the AI in both of them is absolutely lackluster. Especially in ACC the AI feels totally lethargic: They make no mistakes (except for ignoring the player, crashing into you) and never seem to bother battling for a position. Basically the whole race is a bunch of cars following each other in a line, reaching the finish line in the same order they started. I can hardly wait to check out the improvements 1.5.3 is going to bring.
Im a hardcore AMS2 fanboy and i always knew it was going to be amazing, I liked it before 1.5 because my driving style always suited the physics but now aggressive stabby driving works too so its just amazing
I am so excited. I think the balance of the strengths and weaknesses of AMS2 really led me to wanting the game to be my "offline racing sim," but I couldn't consistently have a good experience racing the AI, and so its almost as if all of the welcome improvements that have been made in the last few years didn't mean much to me without the AI being improved. All of the sudden now if the AI is brought up to a place where it is possible to consistently have a compelling race, all the other puzzle pieces so to speak being there, the game might be something truly special. No other modern sim can do this (other than IRacing in a limited way if but that requires a bit more commitment too). Ultimately I question what is the legacy of a game that took 3 years after launch to become what it needed to be, but If the AI is as good as it looks in this video, I wont be that upset about it when I am still playing it in 5-10 years.
Really, really liking the look of this. Good offline racing is something we've lacked in sims for a LONG time, as you said. Plus, I do love that older F1 stuff. Can't wait for this to drop! And maybe run some human + AI races with friends, if I can get them into this...
"I'm not selling anything." Well I just bought Automobilista 2, so I guess the developers knew what they were doing. Now I need a rich friend who will buy me the DLC. Been playing mostly Dirt 2 and AC before that. Never really interested in anything else. Great race too, didn't really feel like the 50 minutes runtime, was fun to watch. SOLD!!! The AI does look great, liked the defending in to the corners with running a blocking entry line and even some mid corner borking. Looking forward to getting my hands on it. This era of F1 was my favourite.
Just had my first race in AMS2 in VR with, a full day night cycle and rain. OMG that was a highlight in terms of my Sim Racing experience so far. Absolutely Awesome
This game in VR, setting up custom cups and stuff with bots, has been the most fun I've had with racing games since Gran Turismo 4 almost two decades ago. Trust me that's saying a lot. For someone who is somewhat casual, but still enjoys dabbling in sim racing, and doesn't have the money to invest into iracing (not just the software but also the cost of a competitive setup) and can't be bothered to deal with all the modding that AC requires to be a good game, AMS2 is just chef's kiss.
Gosh I really love your vids. Always great content for people (like me) loving old school racing (on PC and in real life). BTW: You should really sell T-Shirts saying "Sneaking up on the inside" ;)
Fascinating to watch. That's all I could ever dream of. I played Racing games since F1GP on old DOS computer. I loved GTR and GTR2 so much with mods bringing back the old tracks and legendary F1 seasons. After GTR2 nothing - really nothing came close. This looks like the long awaited title that looks and feels passionated.
Cannot wait to see the full update, and hopefully the Le Mans pack brings some killer carpacks as well assuming that's still going to come through this year. The incoming update overview from the Reiza Forums makes it very hard to not be excited for this - AMS2 is really solidifying their place as the top singleplayer option in simracing, even compared to the OG assetto.
This a great video, as all your videos are. Would love to see a video on how you set up the different class cars you drive in AMS 2. Unless you run them at default?
When the modding community will have done a full season package for teams, drivers, helmets, AI etc for any season in the early 90s, what you should do is a new Ryan Axelson championship season, using all the available tracks for this period, even if it means only 8 ou 12 races, (I don't know all AMS2 tracks from memory) and do it using the AMS2 real life accurate weather. And do it x2 fuel and tyre wear, x2 time obviously too, to make 45ish minutes races like you did it here.
i snagged both AMS2 and rF2 last week while they were on sale. i know it’s only been a few days of playing around with each but i am in love with AMS2 so far and i can see it scratching my single player racing itch for a long time!
Again you've made a great video that has inspired me to re-install this sim on my new system. Ive spent the evening racing the 90s McLaren MP4/6 in changable weather conditions. I'm not sure by heart if the Formula cars have all the required circuits for their respected calendar, depending on the livery addons, but this updates unlocks excellent elevated potential to simulate championship seasons like I have done with GPL and GP2/3/4 and I'm all for giving a go at doing just that!
Taking the 1993 F1 schedule as an example: Kyalami ( Modern version only ) Interlagos (90's version) Donington (Modern version only ) Imola (90's Version) Barcelona (90's version) Monaco ( modern version only) Montreal (90's version) Magny-Cours (Missing) Silverstone (90's version) Hockenheim (90's version) Hungaroring (Missing) Spa (90's version) Monza (90's version) Estoril (90's version) Suzuka ( modern version only) Adelaide ( 90's version ) 10 tracks out of 16 completely recreated with their 1990's layout and appeareance, the list it's quite respectable to be honest, you can definetly do a partial season, Jerez and Jacarepagua are also available as 90's tracks to fill up the schedule.

I'm baffled to find we have no French tracks in the game 🤯 Along with a couple more missing pieces I replaced them with Buenos Aires °15, Long Beach (GP West), Suzuka & Kyalami. Pretty appropiate tracks for their era. Most of these were also on the provisional calendar. There would've been 20 races on that calendar. Imagine that in the 1980s!

Looks very interesting, what with it delivering the goods for offline racing. I am sort of hoping to replicate the old Geoff Grammond F1 games - especially with old eras of F1(ground effect, turbo engines, active ride, etc.).
The Mclaren was probably a better car than the Williams - just didnt have the engine grunt. Reiza - give as an option to run the MP4/8 with the Lamborghini engine so we can see how that may have unfolded ,,, probably the best racing car ever made with one of the most powerful engines of its day!!! Do it Reiza.
I'm not a sim racer, just an observer here. But from what i've just watched this seems to be a leap forwards. The only downside i can think off is that the AI still can't pass each other. They might have seconds in hand but get stuck behind slow cars. I hope thay can fix that too.
For the record, I’d love to see you run a 1991 season. There were a mix of semi-auto and H-pattern gearboxes, in fact McLaren’s car was the last manual three-pedal car to win a championship. Not sure if all the tracks are featured there, but if so, I’d love to see your thoughts on the 1991 layouts for silverstone, and Phoenix too.
They are two completely styles of racing games but AMS2 and Super Woden GP 2 are bringing my love for virtual motorsport back. I can not wait to try this new update
I love how the cars act so strange when the car slips. I love how there's all sorts of darty, digital car maneuvers going on which. I love how the slides almost seem like they're canned once they begin with the control during the slides totally weird. I love how the cars move around like they have no weight and just suddenly dart around all over the place as if the car is totally separated from the driver's inputs. I love how all that still remains in this version of the game. Gotta love the Project Cars 2 physics engine with Reiza's content (tire) updates claiming to be underlying physics engine updates. Gotta love it.

It was great. I just got done with Cleveland and now doing Indy gp track. So far Imola was the hardest track for me.

CART 95-00 is included as one of the DLCs along with Cleveland!

As usual, top video! Since last year AMS2 is my main sim. If only it had stable multiplayer and some smaller bugs removed it would be perfect title.
Been my go to single player sim experience for a few months now, and this update is just making it better and better. Just completed a custom Formula Inter and had a great time, now setup a Formula Junior series focused on only 70's tracks (10 in total).

Man, I love your content and AMS2, I'm from Barcelona so I'm quite familiar with our circuit and just unlocked a memory with that blue star banner (it's from a bank) in the main straight like it used to have, I'm a few months older than the track itself so I never saw it in the 91 spec.
And this Formula Hi-Tech is as impressive as the other open wheelers, glad it's coming!
Awesome. Its now Feb 2024. Thanks for showing this race and what the AI can do now. I do have AMS2 installed but have not spent much time with it - but I will soon. Nice to see the AI pitting and making the game realistic as possible. Makes the game fun to race with.

Yep that you said it could be applied to me. More than 30 years and i still play GP2 to this day.
This gives me hope. The AI in AMS2 is the number 1 thing that’s stops me from playing more. AI in sim racing as a whole has been neglected for so long, it’s good to see some studios putting in effort.
I find your judgement about AMS2's AI quite astonishing.
I'm not going to say you are wrong. If you think the AI (in its' current state) is bad, your opinion is of course valid.
Yet I feel pretty much otherwise: For me, it has one of the best AI in modern sim racing, only second to iRacing's (which is yet unmatched).
But still way better than most other sims on the market. As much as I like AC and ACC for example, the AI in both of them is absolutely lackluster. Especially in ACC the AI feels totally lethargic: They make no mistakes (except for ignoring the player, crashing into you) and never seem to bother battling for a position. Basically the whole race is a bunch of cars following each other in a line, reaching the finish line in the same order they started.
I can hardly wait to check out the improvements 1.5.3 is going to bring.
Im a hardcore AMS2 fanboy and i always knew it was going to be amazing, I liked it before 1.5 because my driving style always suited the physics but now aggressive stabby driving works too so its just amazing
I am so excited. I think the balance of the strengths and weaknesses of AMS2 really led me to wanting the game to be my "offline racing sim," but I couldn't consistently have a good experience racing the AI, and so its almost as if all of the welcome improvements that have been made in the last few years didn't mean much to me without the AI being improved. All of the sudden now if the AI is brought up to a place where it is possible to consistently have a compelling race, all the other puzzle pieces so to speak being there, the game might be something truly special. No other modern sim can do this (other than IRacing in a limited way if but that requires a bit more commitment too). Ultimately I question what is the legacy of a game that took 3 years after launch to become what it needed to be, but If the AI is as good as it looks in this video, I wont be that upset about it when I am still playing it in 5-10 years.
Really, really liking the look of this. Good offline racing is something we've lacked in sims for a LONG time, as you said. Plus, I do love that older F1 stuff. Can't wait for this to drop! And maybe run some human + AI races with friends, if I can get them into this...

Well I just bought Automobilista 2, so I guess the developers knew what they were doing. Now I need a rich friend who will buy me the DLC. Been playing mostly Dirt 2 and AC before that. Never really interested in anything else. Great race too, didn't really feel like the 50 minutes runtime, was fun to watch. I'll definitely come back for more stuff from you. Cheers.
SOLD!!! The AI does look great, liked the defending in to the corners with running a blocking entry line and even some mid corner borking. Looking forward to getting my hands on it. This era of F1 was my favourite.

Just had my first race in AMS2 in VR with, a full day night cycle and rain. OMG that was a highlight in terms of my Sim Racing experience so far. Absolutely Awesome

This game in VR, setting up custom cups and stuff with bots, has been the most fun I've had with racing games since Gran Turismo 4 almost two decades ago. Trust me that's saying a lot.
For someone who is somewhat casual, but still enjoys dabbling in sim racing, and doesn't have the money to invest into iracing (not just the software but also the cost of a competitive setup) and can't be bothered to deal with all the modding that AC requires to be a good game, AMS2 is just chef's kiss.
Gosh I really love your vids. Always great content for people (like me) loving old school racing (on PC and in real life).
BTW: You should really sell T-Shirts saying "Sneaking up on the inside" ;)

I played Racing games since F1GP on old DOS computer. I loved GTR and GTR2 so much with mods bringing back the old tracks and legendary F1 seasons.
After GTR2 nothing - really nothing came close.
This looks like the long awaited title that looks and feels passionated.
Cannot wait to see the full update, and hopefully the Le Mans pack brings some killer carpacks as well assuming that's still going to come through this year. The incoming update overview from the Reiza Forums makes it very hard to not be excited for this - AMS2 is really solidifying their place as the top singleplayer option in simracing, even compared to the OG assetto.

Would love to see a video on how you set up the different class cars you drive in AMS 2. Unless you run them at default?
When the modding community will have done a full season package for teams, drivers, helmets, AI etc for any season in the early 90s, what you should do is a new Ryan Axelson championship season, using all the available tracks for this period, even if it means only 8 ou 12 races, (I don't know all AMS2 tracks from memory) and do it using the AMS2 real life accurate weather. And do it x2 fuel and tyre wear, x2 time obviously too, to make 45ish minutes races like you did it here.

i snagged both AMS2 and rF2 last week while they were on sale. i know it’s only been a few days of playing around with each but i am in love with AMS2 so far and i can see it scratching my single player racing itch for a long time!

I'm not sure by heart if the Formula cars have all the required circuits for their respected calendar, depending on the livery addons, but this updates unlocks excellent elevated potential to simulate championship seasons like I have done with GPL and GP2/3/4 and I'm all for giving a go at doing just that!

10 tracks out of 16 completely recreated with their 1990's layout and appeareance, the list it's quite respectable to be honest, you can definetly do a partial season, Jerez and Jacarepagua are also available as 90's tracks to fill up the schedule.
Jerez and Jacarepagua are good subs. Also Spielberg, Buenos Aires or Nurburgring if you don't mind modern scenery!

Along with a couple more missing pieces I replaced them with Buenos Aires °15, Long Beach (GP West), Suzuka & Kyalami. Pretty appropiate tracks for their era.
Most of these were also on the provisional calendar. There would've been 20 races on that calendar. Imagine that in the 1980s!

Looks very interesting, what with it delivering the goods for offline racing. I am sort of hoping to replicate the old Geoff Grammond F1 games - especially with old eras of F1(ground effect, turbo engines, active ride, etc.).

The Mclaren was probably a better car than the Williams - just didnt have the engine grunt.
Reiza - give as an option to run the MP4/8 with the Lamborghini engine so we can see how that may have unfolded ,,, probably the best racing car ever made with one of the most powerful engines of its day!!! Do it Reiza.

That fluidity reminds me of GP2, GP3, EA's F1 series. That's what is all about simple, plain fun, sim racing.
I'm not a sim racer, just an observer here. But from what i've just watched this seems to be a leap forwards. The only downside i can think off is that the AI still can't pass each other. They might have seconds in hand but get stuck behind slow cars. I hope thay can fix that too.

For the record, I’d love to see you run a 1991 season. There were a mix of semi-auto and H-pattern gearboxes, in fact McLaren’s car was the last manual three-pedal car to win a championship.
Not sure if all the tracks are featured there, but if so, I’d love to see your thoughts on the 1991 layouts for silverstone, and Phoenix too.
They are two completely styles of racing games but AMS2 and Super Woden GP 2 are bringing my love for virtual motorsport back. I can not wait to try this new update
Looks outstanding. I never bought this sim but i own AMS1 though.
I love how the cars act so strange when the car slips. I love how there's all sorts of darty, digital car maneuvers going on which. I love how the slides almost seem like they're canned once they begin with the control during the slides totally weird. I love how the cars move around like they have no weight and just suddenly dart around all over the place as if the car is totally separated from the driver's inputs. I love how all that still remains in this version of the game. Gotta love the Project Cars 2 physics engine with Reiza's content (tire) updates claiming to be underlying physics engine updates. Gotta love it.
