I'm not going to lie... it wasn't easy and the whole project took me forever because I have 3 little kids. But I'm so glad I did it. You never know how you'll do until you try!
Its 2019 and your videos are still helping. Your method is the only one that im going to attempt and ive been through alot of other videos, lol. None compare to yours, thank you brave soul!
You are awesome! I've been trying to find a proper DIY tutorial for recovering a couch and this is definitely it! I can't stand my ugly tan couch any more, but I can't afford a new one and I'm only a beginner when it comes to sewing so I thought I wouldn't be able to do something like this. You make it seem so easy though! Thank you!! :D
Thank you so much for this! I have been tossing around the idea of reupholstering my couch for about 2 years now but I was too afraid that if it didn't work out, we would end up with no couch at all. But after reading a lot of tutorials and DIYs online, I finally decided to go ahead and take the plunge. I was still really nervous though.... Until I saw this. Now I'm feeling much more confident and like I could possibly do this and have it turn out okay. So thank you so much for taking the time to share this! I know how difficult it is to try to do a video and a project at the same time; it really takes so much longer and makes it so much more complicated. So thank you so much for sharing this with us!
Ok... This was a great video for me. I am going to attempt to SAVE my sectional. It's so big but I cannot afford a new one right now...... I'm excited and intimidated at the same time. lol THANKS!
Me too I'm going to do my chaise because my son sits in it every morning. Yes couches chairs chaise lounges are all exspensive. I bought 12 yards of upholstery grade fabric for 112. 00 dollars and that's un heard of for a brand new couch. I'm for changing the appearance go for it . Atleast I do have a staple gun and staples. Can't wait for my fabric.
This is an awesome video!! I have a sectional that I have had since 2006....It's still in great shape but I want a new color scheme!! Happy and scared at the same time...Wish me luck!!
Thanks! I almost didn't film this at first because I knew the professionals would look down on my methods and then I realized "I'm not making this for the professionals!"
I wish I could remember, but I'm horrible with numbers. I will tell you that I went back multiple times and purchased more. If you want to be totally safe I recommend that you write down all of the information on the fabric bolt so that they could reorder if possible/necessary. I do know that by the time all was said and done it cost me $200 in fabric (the bottom cushions alone were $60) but you're not going to find a new couch for under $400!
Ooooh a sectional you're not starting small are you! Just remember the old saying measure twice cut once! And save all the scraps until you're done because you never know what might fit where :-) I’d love to see pictures when you’re done :-)
I have the same couch as you do. how much fabric do you use?? And where can I buy fabric I am living in Hawaii right now and I can find anyplace to buy it.
Maira I'm literally kicking myself now for not keeping better track of how much fabric I bought. I did my couch in phases and went back to the store multiple times. I'm going to estimate 10 yards but I really don't remember I'm so sorry! I know that Amazon sells fabric online. It would be best if you could find something local though so you could see it in person and touch it. Things often look different on your computer screen then they do in person and this is a big purchase! I wonder if you have a small craft store even if it isn't a big recognizable chain???
Oh how I wish I could remember the answer to that question. I think I went back to the store a second time to buy more fabric, because originally I just started with the cushions. I'm (hopefully) going to be doing 3-4 more re-upholstery projects this year and plan to keep better records :-) Have you started your project yet?
I like your honesty. You're right--you don't have to do a perfect upholstery job to end up with a fabulous piece of furniture. Well done!

I'm so glad you're going to try it. The only way to stop being a beginner is to dive in, make some mistakes, and do better next time :-)

I'm glad I'm not alone. If I was striving for perfection I'd never get to do anything haha

Ha! Well let's just hope you got as good a deal on it as I did :-) Mine came from the 399 sofa store, so you can guess the price.
