      Well I have atopic dermatitis (which is chronic) AND some rosacea on my face, sometimes my nose and cheeks get REALLY red bc of the combination of them, sometimes my nose and chin also gets red af bc of dermatitis (i'm on a really fucked up crisis rn) and omg, my self esteem gets really low when this happens... I feel so miserable when I'm at work with a lot ppl seeing my face all red (more than it already is) and it makes me really depressive and vulnerable

      @@palomathereptilian what you just said really hit home... I used to have very bad acne and it was terrible. All I can say is that I hope that you can either find a cure (although I am not really familiar with your 'condition') or a way to feel comfortable with the way you look :)) maybe try a new hairstyle or makeup and not stay so focused on your skin (idk?)
      Anyway that was way too long, have a nice day :))

    Please, PLEASE, do not feel bad about medicine (and vaccines) not being cruelty-free! I think it's ridiculous for make-up to be slapped on animal, and that's unnecessary cruelty, but as a person with chronic disease it's painfull for me to see people that harm themself because they skip proper medical care!

      I 100% agree. I'm actually vegan but I have some health issues and need medication. Health should always be prioritized over veganism (or being cruelty free, etc). The point is to stop unnecessary exploitation of animals, not punish ourselves for existing.

    • @hippopajamas
      @hippopajamas 5 ปีที่แล้ว +98

      It's about necessity for the testing. There is no reason to test cosmetics on animals. There is PLENTY of reasons to test medicines in animals. I'm not saying it isn't cruel- I hate it. But it is without a doubt necessary.

    • @amelianannette972
      @amelianannette972 5 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      @@hippopajamas there are actually many facets of medicine that have other more accurate methods of testing. My argument is not that it is necessary for the animal testing to be done (in general, animal testing is still necessary in many phases, especially for long-term effects, I will not deny that). It's not so much that the animal testing is always necessary but simply that we as patients have no control over that and ultimately we still have to choose our own health.

    FYI, "natural" does not mean good for your skin, especially sensitive skin. Often "natural" skincare means it's packed with highly irritating essential oils and fragrance, which can give you a rash (my skin hates them). I would aim for products with the LEAST amount of ingredients listed on them, and zero fragrance.

    My nose is always a pink/light red color naturally, but when I get warm or cold (just temperature change in general) it gets bright red, and I mean VERY red. It flares up all the time. My Mom thinks it’s most likely rosacea, or my raynauds. Red nose gang where ya at 😂

  • @SofiaLhene
    @SofiaLhene 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I got diagnosed with rosacea too a couple of years ago, after a pretty terrible flare-up. Turns out I was already avoiding many of the triggers (which was good) but I had to change my skincare routine and products that I used. I was also prescribed a topical antibiotic (which I wasn’t really stoked about) and used it for two months, until I realized I was having many of the side-effects and, after a consultation with my dermatologist, we decided that it wasn’t really working for me.
    Everything regarding rosacea is pretty expensive -sadly- but managing the more painful & uncomfortable symptoms that come with it (burning sensation, itchiness and generally sensitive skin) is worth it, at least for me. The main thing was finally knowing why I am basically red all the time and had weird painful breakout on my nose and cheeks under certain circumstances.
    Thank you for talking about it! I’d be interested in seeing an update of your routine and products that have worked for you!

    • @TheNikkePikker

    • @SofiaLhene
      @SofiaLhene 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheNikkePikker Biggest one for me is drastic temperature changes. Winters are generally terrible because it’s super cold and dry outside, but inside the heating is on full blast. Then there’s the obvious one, sun exposure. I always use a gentle (hypoallergenic, paraben-free and definitely no alcohol) but high SPF sunscreen every time I go out and I gave up entirely on sunbathing. I found that during terrible flare-ups, what really helps with instant soothing is having those “thermal face mists” (made for sensitive skin). They are expensive but when you are in pain and your face is literally burning, they really are a lifesaver.

    Gentle exfoliate with microfiber or a microexfoliant product(I have bliss brand with volcanic ash, it's very gentle). Then moisturizer with nothing too heavy, I like a water gel.
    Then, the most important step, put on primer immediately. The primer seals in the moisturizer. If I don't do this step I'm sooo peely. With primer, no peels. I've been using the elf primer to save money but my favorite is bobby brown...
    Then makeup goes on with a makeup sponge perfectly.

    If you’re really wanting makeup to stay on that area, using an eye primer helps. Also, green helps get rid of some of the redness. As for antibiotics, probiotics and yogurt with live cultures helps. If that fails, just go out and get the meds as a fail safe. I have allergies and get a red nose often, I also have experience with lots sinus infections.

For around two years, my nose increasingly became more inflamed, swollen and my sinuses felt just shot! On top of the ridiculously annoying breathing impairment, it was embarassing and fairly impossible to camouflage. Side note: upon soooooo much research with corroborating theories, I have no doubt whatsoever the underlying culprit is at least partially linked with Candida. Considering the depth of the cause, I felt pretty discouraged but all the while I'd been looking into medical grade skincare for acne and anti aging. This is where I found conquer! And fast. Cosrx, Krave beauty, The Ordinary, Vanicream, and Benton are cruelty free brands that are good for sensitive skin. Cosrx has a few products with fragrance and essential oils but other than that it has some great products, their overnight rice mask is my favorite. Glossier has a cleanser that's fragerence free and it's really gentle. Krave Beauty's cleanser is also gentle.

    i have rosacea too! (mines all across my face) I’ve avoided going to a derm specifically because i already know that everything under the sun triggers a flare up (literally) and the first one i talked to just said all i could truly do is swear off those triggers...as if some of those are avoidable.

    I'm so glad you officially know what it is!! I had to be on doxycycline a few years ago for something unrelated to my skin and while I was on it my skin was AMAZING. I had pretty bad acne and when I took it my skin cleared up so much. I only had to take it once a day for 10 days but my skin still looks much better than it did before taking doxy. I hope you don't have any side effects from it cause it's really great

    First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream!! It has colloidal oatmeal in it to calm irritation and the small tube lasts me months bc a little bit goes a long way. My skin is super sensitive and acne-prone and this stuff doesn't break me out and can calm dermatitis better than anything else I've ever tried. Cruelty-free brand, too.

    I get random redness around my chin area on and off and it's been more often these past few weeks. It's always made me very self-conscious to where I feel the need to reapply foundation throughout the day before I leave the house. This redness with the slight acne I have is not fun. I'm realizing that some of my situation is inevitable and just in my genetic makeup. But I'm also starting to see that I haven't been giving my skin the attention that it deserves. I should be taking better care of my skin. I love how you said in one of your videos how you should be kind and loving to your body and help it do what it needs to do for you to be happy and healthy. I need to be better about this. And I adore this video by the way. Very interesting and helpful video. I can relate to some degree - thank you.

    In case you wanted to find a different moisturiser, the Weleda Soothing Almond Face Cream is fragrance free and cruelty free! It's the cream version, not the lotion! Their products are natural and organic and can be real saviours if you have issues with sensitivity to harsh ingredients :) (Their skin food moisturiser is also amazing for dry skin/dry patches, super emollient and a little goes a really long way!). Personally I don't suffer with rosacea but my skin is v sensitive and the products haven't irritated me. Hope you find a solution, but even if not I'm happy you found out what it is for your own peace of mind! Have a lovely day x

    Hi i have struggled with rosacea also. Not just my nose but cheeks too. My nose however was the most annoying area for me. Id put on makeup and it would look uniform. After an hour, it would separate and look like pangea! Flakey, patchy ,and angry. I realized its inflammation in the body. I wanted to go towards a natural route. I started juicing celery on an empty stomach in the morning. It really has improved. No judgment towards your own personal journey. I just know how you dont want to take antibiotics. Neither did I. Also its super expensive. Where celery is cheap. Oh dont bother buying a juicer. Simply buy an almond milk mesh bag. Blend celery in a regular blender strain in the bag and drink. Cheap, effective, natural,less mess,vegan, and more sustainable. All things you love. Hope it can work for you! Great video

    That Burt’s bees moisturizer is pretty good, I prefer the day cream though because it’s basically the same formula, just a lotion consistency, in a more hygienic pump. They both have the same results. It’s a little bit greasy due to the oils in it, but great for healing and sensitive skin. Try using a mineral sunscreen on your rosacea, it might be less irritating and provide better protection. It’s awesome to use natural and especially cruelty-free products, but also know that sometimes “natural” products can actually cause bad reactions because they often contain ingredients that humans can be allergic to already, or become sensitive to. Try to focus on “non toxic” products instead

    Things I can tell you about rosacea, as I've been battling it for over 10 years--i only take my doxy pills when I have a flare-up for about a week, once the pustules and swelling are better, I stop using it. Nyacinamide helps with redness. Everyone has different things that cause their flares, and for me that's any food in the nightshade family, sugar, and not using sunscreen and a hat when I will be in the sun. Cere-ve products are my holy-grail, especially the "SA" lotions. They keep the flakiness to a minimum. It's definitely a journey to figure out what works for you, and I hope you have good luck with yours!

    The Body Shop aloe mostrizer is really good. No fragrance ND everything in the store is of course cruelty free, vegan/vegetarian.
    If you want to do something anti-aging you can do the drops of Youth line from again The Body Shop. Aloe based and the whole line is vegan. The liquid exfolient starts as a gel and as you run it on it gets ALL of the dead flaky dry skin off. All of my customers who have Rosacea do love that exfoliate and that line.

    Definitely make sure you wear sunscreen if you have sensitive skin or skin that burns easily when using Doxycycline. I burned super easily with it, but it did make my skin look great. It's dependent on each person (and I am not a doctor) but Minocycline was less intense for the irritation for me. No matter what, I hope the Doxycycline works for you!

    I've had rosacea all my life (I'm 24). For years I've been years taking medicine twice a week, it makes my skin dry, my lips get patchy and my hair also is a bit dry (it was too grasy before, though), but it really makes my skin look great. I also used Cetaphil soap and moisturizing cream with that medicine and everything was perfect, until I realized Cetaphil is not cruelty free, so I now use NAAY reparative emulsion (for babies) and Lush soap or any basic soap and it does the work perfectly. I also bought NAAY sunscreen which is awesome! I've been in treatment for 6 years now, and I hardly ever see signs of rosacea 💕
    But before that... I probably saw about 10 dermatologists and none of them helped me. The products didn't worked, they were expensive and sometimes made my skin look worse, so I really wish you good luck with this treatment, I really hope it gets better it the first try 🍀 (I'm not giving the name of my medicine because if you have a problem in your skin you should see a good dermatologist and not search online, in my case, the oldest and most experienced dermatologist in town was the key).

    I’ve used Ivermectin and Metronidazole for my rosacea but it just got worse with the mask during covid. My nose is still getting bigger. I am on a new med Rhofade. The sun definitely triggers it. I use spf 30 and a sun visor. I don’t drink and I’ve gone though a lot of emotional stress starting in 2021 with Mom’s Alzheimer’s and hers and my mother in law’s deaths in 2022, then my breast cancer. I fell like my meds help my cheeks but my nose seems to be gradually getting bigger. I will be going back to my doctor next week.
    Good luck with your treatment!

    I was on doxycycline for months for my (really bad) acne and my skin never looked better in my life. I still had to go on accutane, though, because it didn’t fix my skin. Accutane changed my life for the better. I don’t have oily skin or oily hair anymore and I don’t know if I should be grateful for that or be scared of aging faster. I stress about everything too. Also, your vlogs are my favorite.

    Girl (I love you), I understand the desire to be more "natural"- I've been there- but, honestly you gotta get over it. Natural does not mean better and too many times they put garbage ingredients in it (looking at you essential oils).
    On another note, I've tried the Burt's Bees moisturizer, and it's okay. It isn't moisturizering enough for dry skin but it is pretty well tolerated. The day and night creme are basically the same product on different packaging and with different prices lol.

      I only wanted natural because it’s the least aggravating for already irritated skin! more so I just wanted simple and basic. trust me I don’t use all natural products in everything I do, I’m not that picky but for my sensitive skin I want minimal irritation. but I definitely see your point and a lot of brands “green wash” a lot of their products to seem natural when it’s really not.

    After battling with multiple autoimmune issues - digestive, skin, etc. I've started to realize more and more that it's about what we put in and on our body (foods, fragrances, make-up, soaps, shampoos) that matters more than anything. What we cook our food in and how we cook it also matters.
    Getting a stool test analysis and food sensitivity test helped me alot. It showed how out of balance my gut was. 80% of your immune system is in the gut, and if it's not happy - you're not happy. The gut-brain connection is powerful.
    I too took anti-biotics for multiple issues, and at some point even took prednisone (steriods) and it made me worse. And no doubt caused further gut dysbiosis. To me, it wasn't worth it.
    Maybe you might considering digging deeper, to see what's causing your skin issues? You know your body best, and I bet in time you would be able to figure it out. Look at the foods you eat and what you drink - how nutrient dense and balanced are these foods truly, and are they nourishing your body in the best possible ways? Examine your stress levels - really think about if the things you're doing with your life and the people in it surround you with the optimal amounts of love and happiness you deserve - and more. (Reiki has personally helped me a great deal).
    I hope this provided some insight. I've been dealing with chronic health issues for the past 8 or so months, and wanted to share things that may help you.
    Best wishes to you, and blessed health.

    Hey, you might want to try the DX right after you wash your face. Wait a few mins so your skin is dry and then apply the DX. Doing the oil and than the DX might not allow it to fully absorb into your skin. I’ve had that issue with some of my acne meds. 💕💕

    I've had rosacea since I was 11, which is supposedly "uncommon" because mostly older people get it. Lucky me, lol! Anyway, it just takes awareness of your triggers and learning experience to find out whats right for you. Despite overall being more on the oily to normal spectrum, basing my routine around moisturizing products rather than things that manage oil has been very helpful for me. Face masks are also my best friends, specifically "cooling" masks since my face often feels hot or at least warm all the time. My favorites are mask of magnaminty from lush and the jjyoung pore glow mask, but I like trying out different types of course.
    Sunscreen is a must, I definitely notice a difference in my skin when I'm on top of using sunscreen daily and when I'm slacking. Knowing your limits is important, and even though I like the outdoors I have to be aware that the sun and humidity are not my friends, and that I have to know when it's time for me to retreat to air conditioning. Overall, maybe I'm just used to it, but rosacea hasn't negatively impacted my life much :) I just gotta take care of my skin and my body and everything should be good to go.
