You could flash the google play edition rom in a regular m8 if you want to since they are out of inventory or if you want it on another country or color

You need to have two mouses plugged in to get the necessary clicking power to analyze.
Had to come back and watch this after your Q&A.
I returned mine and went back to the HTC version as no burst shot and focusing just takes for ever (have a little baby girl that's why it was important to me) but besides that I love how smooth it was and just cleaner an simple over all, great review as always!

That was brilliant.
watching this again after the Pixel announcement. I think this was the best phone to run stock android ever from a build quality standpoint. metal curved unibody and front facing stereo speakers, some of the features you'll never see on a stock android device, specially coming from google. Sad.

Now that you can take advantage of HTC software through the Play Store...the GPE M8 is the best Android phone. Its basically an upgraded Nexus in build and software. Only thing Nexus has over it is low price.
Low price is a pretty big deal, though.
Joshua Muñoz low price does not have to do anything with how good a phone is.
I'd buy it, but kinda hard to justify $700 when I can just get the Sense version on T-mobile and JUMP in 6 months :)
No, that's not what I'm getting at. You said the only thing the Nexus has over the M8 GPe is low price, but it's what, $300 or so? Pretty compelling reason.
I agree, the M8 has far superior build quality, but, at a price.

I installed the stock Google play rom on my M8. But I actually went back to Sense 6, they did such a great job on it. Very clean and super fast. I think the stock sense 6 is better than the Google camera app imo. This is the first UI I actually prefer over stock android!

You CAN hack the phone to make it a GPE. There are a few how-to videos on youtube for the HTC phones. That's the beauty of having an Android phone: they don't lock you up like Apple does.
Ik you can, I'm on cm11... However ROMs tend to have bugs :(
Fluffy Greyfoot All os's have bugs. Nothings perfect. However, I'd rather have a rooted phone than a stock one with bloatware. Custom roms just opens up a whole new world for you to explore. Trust me, it's great fun.
scyther6666 As I said Im using cm11 for my galaxy s2. After turning on ART runtime most of the issues I had are gone.. Apps missbehaving and errors when downloading stuff. Apart from occasional force closes, no issues. Anything I can do to fix this?
Fluffy Greyfoot If force closures are rampant and frequent, boot in recovery mode > Choose "Wipe cache partition" and reboot.
No need to Factory reset and risk losing all your data.If you re having problems with apps that seemed to try to connect to internet and trigger a popup force close window and crashes, Steps for continuous pop ups.
Turn off the phone (hold the power button if the power-off menu won't appear).
Boot in recovery mode (holding volume up key + home key + power button at same time).
Choose the fourth option "wipe cache partition" (using the volume keys to select option and then Home button to excecute).
Allow to reboot normally and problem solved.

Pretty cool how they were able to keep some of the Sence 6 features and having boom sound plus amazing build quality is a bonus.
Definitely my choice over the LG Nexus.

I am very new to Android and HTC...
(I am like more to apple)
But im getting a new phone, and im kind of bored of Apple Devices... same repeated stuff to me.
So I wanted to get the HTC One M8.
I was just not sure which HTC One M8 to get...
Do I get HTC One M8 or HTC One M8 Google Play Edition.
I have no Idea, 0%, of what the the difference is of these phones...
But I did see a TH-cam video online where this guy was playing games on those 2 phones, and it lagged on the HTC One M8, but ran very smoothly on HTC One M8 Google Play Edition.
So Im more to Google Play Edition atm, but im just not so sure...
Cuz I also saw some Unboxing videos for the both of these Devices, but on the Box of the HTC One M8, it had more features written on it but for the HTC One M8 Google Play Edition, it didnt have those features written on the front of the box... So I was wondering if those features are their for the both of these Devices or only for the HTC One M8?
Could anybody help me here?
Just like tell me what exactly is the differences between the HTC One M8 and the HTC One M8 Google Play Edition?

you should also check out the s5
The google play edition does not have as many features because it runs stock android, or googles own version of android. That means it gets updates very quickly compared to all other phones. The regular m8 has more features and looks different because htc puts their own skin on top of stock android. They both have the same hardware specs. The performance should be pretty much the same, since the skin htc puts on top of the regular one m8 is still very fluid and fast. The only problem with the google play edition is that it can only be used on gsm networks.

I don't see why HTC can't put the full camera app on the play store and then let you just set it as default over the stock app.

Not all people use GPE, that is why HTC and Google have worked together so people who love stock android can get great build quality, and people who love sense can use it also

why buying a GPE phone when you have nova launcher?..
Nova launcher just changes the looks, google play edition is changing the whole phone, like a nexus. If you, root your phone, you may be able to do the same thing.

Tarik Jasim installing Nova Launcher over any OEM doesn't change it to stock Android. This should be common knowledge in mobile tech community by now.
I didnt said anything about changing a phone into stock android, but my point of view is why would you buy extra money when a launcher would look 90% like a stock android phone I Finn
