Don't get me wrong here, Android has it's place for certain tasks and I love it, but as far as what's more productive, is a joke! Windows 8.1 is free on devices 9 inches and smaller, but that's besides the point! Can you burn a CD or DVD Disk using the HTC One M8 for Android? Now, how about the HTC One M8 for Windows? It's not good to compare Windows and Android and certainly not fair! Adding Ubuntu to your android device, will make it a computer and not a toy with benefits!
Former Android user here. I switched to Windows 8.1 Phones because of security reasons and for state of mind that all my private data continue to belong to me, NOT google inc. Im excited for this One M8 and ty for covering it.
The only contention I have with any tech reviews are unfair biases. You guys do an excellent job with this not falling into the same chasm as other reviewers. Not everyone are power users. Mostly, by default, review company reviewers are all power users and basically destroy products based on their individual needs over the majority of everyday users. Most people do not need all the bloated app saturation that IOS and Android give you. So for most everyday users who realistically only need the major used apps, Windows Phone should suffice greatly. Its just a shame that some companies seem like paid corporate shills instead of independent journalists, which should favor diversity, which continues job security, over receiving free tech in exchange for favorable reviews. In that regard, bravo Pocketnow!!!! You are the only ones that do not discriminate unfairly towards any given product bade. You have your favorites, but try honestly to give a great review for any product. Thank you, keep up the great work.
Love the way you make the review, the words you use the exclamations, the scenarios you make for comparisons, the clarity of your english, in fact MF is an unparallel reviewer.
Pocketnow I just had to get my old trusty, still fully functional HTC HD2 out of its box to just turn it on and to tinker with it. The HD2 is a legendary device with its unlocked bootloader and all and truly was the "we gave you the phone you can do really what you desire" phone. HTC does great this year but....if they want to shoot them up again they would need to make the same steps as for the HD2 ;) But very likely now with wp 8.1 avaible for the M8 the developer called Cotulla (he made the bootloader possible for the hd2) from XDA will rise again and come up with maybe the same ;) So cant wait to see what will come on XDA :D
watching some old videos because I want to get a HTC One M8 from eBay for nostalgic & fun purposes (but also I missed out on their UltraPixel phase), should I get the Windows Phone or Android? 🧐
Honestly the Windows phone platform was one of the best looking even to this day. The live tiles made so much sense but the platform just never had the support that it needed to keep going.
Between you and MKBHD you guys are seriously the best tech reviewer there are.

I use both Android (Nexus 5) and Windows Phone. I needed to switch my main usage towards the Android, but even though it's the Nexus, I still do miss WP user experience, which I find far superior to Android. Can't wait for the M8 for WP to hit international markets, the I'll definitelly go back to use WP on a daily basis ;]

***** Yep, that's what made me go Android. Google's services are still lacking on WP, due to Google's policy.

***** You're right, some alternatives are far superior; I much prefer OneDrive over Google Drive, absolutely love Office Online over Google Docs, BUT I work in the environtment where hangouts are the main channel of communication, I write for multiple websites for which I really do need a solid Wordpress Client and Google Analytics. Can't have that on Windows Phone :( And there are couple of other services I use on a daily basis, which are much, much better on Android, but again - that's only developers fault for not putting enough attention towards WP users.
Very good review, this will be my next upgrade in Oct. And my ticket back home to the WinMo fam... But this video made me realize... That Pocketnow doesn't do software tour vidz anymore for new software updates ..missed those..
Nice review, I'm just wondering, in your experiences, does the phone's battery live up to the stat that Verizon provided us? I know you addressed battery in the video, but I was a little bit confuse.
joshepleminh1998 We'll talk a little more about this in the written review, up later today. But almost no smartphone lives up to the battery stats the OEM provides, in our experience. ^M
SergiioMan Evidently you missed our HTC One M8 for Windows Unboxing & Hands-On, where we make clear that this device is on store shelves now with the final release of 8.1.1. If it had been the dev preview, we'd have made a note of it. ^M
Pocketnow You're right... But it is interesting, because I have 2 WP devices, one with 8.1 (820) and the other (1320) with a 8.1Prev... None of them present that kind of bugs. Sure there is a few minor bugs, but then I wonder if the problem is on WP8.1.1 or on the HTC implementation... Do you have those problems on any other WP device?
SergiioMan We've seen random hangs and lock-ups (some more reproducible than others) on our Lumia 1020 running the dev preview, and other more minor errors on the Lumia Icon running same. We didn't expect to see as many issues as we did on the One M8 running the final release of 8.1.1. ^M
@oussema trabelsi 1. No, WP can't run apks. It can run xap and appx apps (but with no cache) 2. You need to have a developer unlocked Windows Phone for that
I really wished you would have focused on the performance more. Since Microsoft boasts that Windows Phone OS is more optimized and efficient than Android, it would have been nice to see you mention how quick this runs compared to how it runs Android, since a direct comparison can be made, seeing as the two phones are identical.
This phone is absolutely gorgeous. The only problem was that windows doesn’t support a lot of apps :(. Had to trade mine for the android version just to be able to use everyday apps like Facebook and kik messenger at the time
i know all nokia lumia's hardware are optimized to windows phone, but is this true with the htc mt? is the hardware any different from the android version? if so, will it have optimization problems, updates delay problems? i need an answer.
Is the "Start Screen Folders" referred to in the video, is it the Microsoft App Folder or a third party client??? I have a 925 running WP 8.1.1, and the folders on the M8 for Windows looks way better than the folders I have!!!
Would you recommend this phone to someone that just wants it to throw in their music and use it as an MP3 player?? My brother wants an mp3 device to use only for that and I figured this would be a cheap solution for just that. He's (and I haven't either) never used a Windows phone, but I imagine it won't be too much of a hassle??
Hey Michael excellent review as usual, I had a request and since you are reviewing a phone running on WP 8.1 you might be able to test this particular scenario. I have Nokia Lumia 920 running on WP 8.1 update 1 and when i use my phone as navigator and a music player it over heats and shuts down. I use Here drive and use Music app and stream music via Bluetooth to my in-car music system and this is when my phone starts over heating and shuts down in like 20-30. So, is it possible for you to repeat/test out this particular scenario?
Karthik Udupa Hi Karthik. Would love to give this a try but we don't drive that often in the Boston office. Will remember it for our next road trip. ^M
Pocketnow Thanks for replying Michael, my contract with AT&T is almost over and I'm waiting for successor to 1020. But the heating problem i mentioned in my earlier reply still exists in the latest flagship then I might well shift over to iPhone even though I love WP and I'm one of its biggest supporter... So, I will surely appreciate any help and keep up the good work.. :)
Thats wasn't a bad idea but its camera is no way near 920 and I don't want to update to a phone with a bad camera. Moreover, personally I don't wanna juggle more than on device in hand/pocket. I'm waiting for 1020 successor and i hope Microsoft will launch it soon.
Hey guys. I have a one M8 running android. Is there a way I can change to run Windows? Sorry - I'm not a total expert on this stuff. Your help is appreciated.
@Éanna McClean You should be happy with that. Better looks, better camera and battery. For me at least 32gb is not than enough. But the speakers are of course way better on the HTC.
Apps. You will only enjoy the superficial design few days then functionality comes in.You will need more apps to run on it and for this case you are limited.
superfatchao14 Thank you, but I'm serious. Most of the apps aren't that bad, I will say that they should be updated more often but they aren't terrible in their current state.

Windows Phones, or at least the Nokia ones have always had excellent build quality. Every Nokia phone has always had great build quality and probably always will, even under Microsoft's control now. I like that phone. I like my Lumia 928 better though. Whatever replaces the 92x version this year or possibly even the 1020 should be a beast. That's all I'm waiting for. If there's no good phones released this fall, I may just get the One M8. **EDIT** I should say that the shape of the Lumia 928 and the camera quality are what set it apart from me. William Claypoole Thanks, William. We do our best. ^M
I do like how you showed off the double tap to wake function on the phone. Many reviewers fail to mention or take notice of that.
Wow Pocketnow's videos have certainly polished up!! The transitions with the animations and specifications hovering near the phone is awesome!
j23eagle Thanks! We've been using the new style for about a year now in many of our review videos. Glad you're enjoying it! ^M
The "Dot" case designed for the M8 looks amazing, I wish I had it.
Love the way you make the review, the words you use the exclamations, the scenarios you make for comparisons, the clarity of your english, in fact MF is an unparallel reviewer.
this phone is still available on Verizon Wireless plus you get UHOH protection as well. sold one earlier this week.
Pocketnow I just had to get my old trusty, still fully functional HTC HD2 out of its box to just turn it on and to tinker with it.
The HD2 is a legendary device with its unlocked bootloader and all and truly was the "we gave you the phone you can do really what you desire" phone.
HTC does great this year but....if they want to shoot them up again they would need to make the same steps as for the HD2 ;)
But very likely now with wp 8.1 avaible for the M8 the developer called Cotulla (he made the bootloader possible for the hd2) from XDA will rise again and come up with maybe the same ;)
So cant wait to see what will come on XDA :D
Bring back HTC 8X design! Seriously that phone is gorgeous
watching some old videos because I want to get a HTC One M8 from eBay for nostalgic & fun purposes (but also I missed out on their UltraPixel phase), should I get the Windows Phone or Android? 🧐
Android

I think this is the best Windows phone device you can buy.(minus the camera)
I prefer the 930, but I can understand why people would love this. Though, I won't upgrade until they make a successor for the 1020.
It's very nice... but there is something a bit... better about the Lumia having used them both. Lumia just seems a bit more.... solid.
***** I need ma 41MP!
Great review Michael! Watching it with my M8 :)
Pocketnow Bugs are normal because you're running the PREVIEW FOR DEVELOPERS version of Windows 8.1
SergiioMan Evidently you missed our HTC One M8 for Windows Unboxing & Hands-On, where we make clear that this device is on store shelves now with the final release of 8.1.1. If it had been the dev preview, we'd have made a note of it. ^M

Pocketnow indeed. My apologies.
This phone is absolutely gorgeous. The only problem was that windows doesn’t support a lot of apps :(. Had to trade mine for the android version just to be able to use everyday apps like Facebook and kik messenger at the time
As always Michael great review. I wonder how aggressively htc is going to market this device.
I'm so torn. Should I get this, the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 or Mega 2? (I don't really have a preference for OS)
They dropped the ball on the naming. Perfect opportunity to name it the HTC One W8 and they didn't.
When it gets windows 10 in an OTA, software wouldn't live up to the name or vice versa.
Hd2 is a beast phone. I still use it as my backup phone running android
Thinking of buying this phone, thanks for the review.
Looks like a fantastic device.. I am seriously interested in this device
i wouldnt trade my Lumia 925 for an HTC "anything." image stabilization - zeiss optics - physical camera button - and better workmanship overall.
Why did you not mention the Touch HD? First wvga 3.8 inch screen!
i know all nokia lumia's hardware are optimized to windows phone, but is this true with the htc mt? is the hardware any different from the android version? if so, will it have optimization problems, updates delay problems? i need an answer.
Is the "Start Screen Folders" referred to in the video, is it the Microsoft App Folder or a third party client??? I have a 925 running WP 8.1.1, and the folders on the M8 for Windows looks way better than the folders I have!!!
The ones you see in the video are the native folders that come with 8.1.1 on the M8. ^M
When it comes to Windows phones, hTC has always done an amazing job.
I want this phone so bad. Cannot wait for AT&T Variant to be available!
superfatchao14 AT&T? How about Unlocked and Worldwide!
its coming to at&t they said so themselves.
Yeah, It says right on their website.
Would you recommend this phone to someone that just wants it to throw in their music and use it as an MP3 player?? My brother wants an mp3 device to use only for that and I figured this would be a cheap solution for just that. He's (and I haven't either) never used a Windows phone, but I imagine it won't be too much of a hassle??
question that everyone ignores... are the windows m8 htc phone have gorilla glass 3? by all Carrier not just verizon?
AMOLED would of gave it awesome battery life with all the black in windows software
Are you able to upgrade the OS from 8.1 to 10?
Do notification lights work on the Windows version??
@vincentkipkurui which apps for example.. Cause I don't miss any on my wp8.1. :)
does anyone know how long the exclusive to Verizon is? Haven't had an HTC since the Titan, this would be perfect phone as long as its on a GSM carrier
I can't decide between this, the Sony Xperia Z3, and the iPhone 6. Any advice?
Depends on what you'll do with it, what type of apps you use, and which operating system you like, if you still haven't gotten a new phone that is.
Why would you take this instead of Lumia 930's camera?
this phone was a legend for the windows ecosystem
do you think this is the best windows phone?
Looking forward to the face off between my Nokia Lumia 930 vs the HTC One M8 for Windows.
How am I to tell what the speakers sound like, when the noise is being outputted on a different device.…
Should I sell my Lumia 1520 and get this?
Hey Michael excellent review as usual, I had a request and since you are reviewing a phone running on WP 8.1 you might be able to test this particular scenario. Hey guys. I have a one M8 running android. Is there a way I can change to run Windows? Sorry - I'm not a total expert on this stuff.
Your help is appreciated.
OMG when the hell is this coming out to AT&T??? Please somebody tell me!!
How would it work with Android L and can you dual boot windows and android
@Éanna McClean You should be happy with that. Better looks, better camera and battery. For me at least 32gb is not than enough. But the speakers are of course way better on the HTC.
Looks amazing.
Yeah but, will it blend?
proly the best windows phone of 2014!
with the best camera on a mobile phone!
I want 935, design similar to 925, microSD and Snapdragon 801. Just these. Bring it on M$.
Can it be ported to Android HTC One M8?
Microsoft has a long way to go to make a great mobile OS.
elaborate.
I just traded in my G3 for a one m8, love it
M8 Duo Camera....How to use ???
I'll try to keep an open mind - Windows does look interesting. Hopefully I can get the Strava app.
When it was only android i would never buy it but windows i may buy it
Am I the only one that wonders why the high end lumia series don't use amoled? On windows phone you use a lot of black and illuminated colours.
looks like the E8 model is not out
Great review bud, keep us up
Apps. You will only enjoy the superficial design few days then functionality comes in.You will need more apps to run on it and for this case you are limited.
There are 300,000 and more every day, I'm pretty sure you've got enough.
what makes the design superficial? nothing inherent about the OS keeps developers away except for low market share and google.
superfatchao14
You and I both know that only 40% of the apps are crap ok.
superfatchao14
Thank you, but I'm serious. Most of the apps aren't that bad, I will say that they should be updated more often but they aren't terrible in their current state.
StrickenWithFear
99% of them are shit, and even big official apps perform worse then on iOS or android,,
I'm liking your destinations and drinks !!
LG G3 Vs HTC One M8 Windows Phone?
What the name of app in 3:22 ? Thanks!
Like most ppl I really enjoy the pocketnow reviews but to be honest MF reviews are
one of the best. If MF will ever start for himself he will already have a fanbase.
@Nicholas Hatala That's faster than most us home internet, that's why Michael fisher was shocked
Resolution isnt a necessity if it takes that beauty photos I am impressed with the camera I shd say
Will this windows phone upgrade to windows 10?
LUSHO CLAURE One M8 can already run WIndows 10 Technical preview so yes
2019..can i have that phone?
Breeze is compeling as back up..but availability is limited..you have one windows phone bro?my lumia 925 is out of commission
Not bad, but I don't think what's really holding Windows phone back is lack of "premium build quality"
Windows Phones, or at least the Nokia ones have always had excellent build quality. Every Nokia phone has always had great build quality and probably always will, even under Microsoft's control now. Not being aluminum doesn't mean that it's built like shit, and I fail to understand why people believe that.

Variety of hardware is very important. Just having Nokia isn't enough. Hope to see more android phones run Windows (looking at you LG)
What is the name of app you use for start screen folders?
There is no app... that's part of the operating system now.
nothing beats nokia....love my 1520
Hey can Windows phone run apk files (with cache) from pirate bay like android
You can't but there's a way to install pirate programs..
I ordered this phone and the seller scared me. He asked did I know I got windows phone instead of android I'm like is that a good or bad thing I'm still confused. I don't do anything but call and text and maybe Facebook and TH-cam every now and then I hope it works for me! Oh and take pictures lol

Windows Phone needs more phones like these taboolexicon instead of a low crappy veriation like they usually make for windows phone.
I like that phone. I like my Lumia 928 better though. Whatever replaces the 92x version this year or possibly even the 1020 should be a beast. That's all I'm waiting for. If there's no good phones released this fall, I may just get the One M8.
**EDIT**
I should say that the shape of the Lumia 928 and the camera quality are what set it apart from me.
The One M8 definitely has a nice look. I'd have to give the camera a run first though.
Yeah lumia devices have some of the best camera. Don't get the m8 if you like taking pictures it does a decent job but at range it sucks
Good advice. I'm really hoping for something great out of the Microsoft / Nokia purchase this fall. Daddy needs a new phone! lol
Wow good bye icon and 930 the most beautiful windows phone is the m8.
I still dont like the m8`s camera. I prefer lumia`s camera.
I`d love to see a kyocera brigadier running wp, and sony xperia, and moto g.
thanks micheal.
or just download the WP Launcher 8 on your Android version of the One M8...more customization, better app store. ;)
Can someone PLEASE tell me if snapchat is on the htc one m8 windows edition?
Nope no snapchat
I love this phone with windows on it, and to those that say it doesn't have enough apps don't forget android hasn't been where it is that long a year can make a big difference for an OS plus android has grown pretty stale which is to be expected.
android stale? you mean ios? FFS you can do custom roms, tons of launchers and customization. what do you mean stale? lol. idiot.
Android stale? Have you any idea what is gonna happen to Android this year? Android L(ollipop) is by far the biggest update for Android. A lot is gonna change.
