Some Mater’s tall tales did seem somewhat of a stretch to be true but by some stroke of coincidence, there was proof of his wild stories being true. Plus it always seemed strange how Mater would insert Lighting McQueen into his stories, claiming his best friend was there despite how they only met when McQueen got lost trying to find the interstate.
All the Mater’s Tall Tales shorts really happened in the Cars universe. Lighting believes they’re fake stories Mater made up, only to be proven wrong whenever someone from Mater’s stories shows up from Radiator Springs and recognizes Mater.
That comment about the dent really sold me to him when he said it! It really shows his appreciation for the mistakes and I took that into my life today!
The most special thing about Mater to me, like you said is the fact that no matter what he faces or no matter how rusty and old he looks, he has one of the biggest hearts of all, full of compassion and just wanting to help, be there and have a friend.
Mater's a LOT COOLER than I thought!!! He did so many interesting things in his life he's SOOOOOO IMPRESSIVE!!! He doesn't even mind looking rusty and damaged and he NEVER fixes his dents either.
I think a lot of Matter’s Tall tales were true up until he mentions Lightning McQueen was their too as all of those tales are meant to happen before he meets McQueen.
I’m honored that I get to share a birthday with Mater Also this is my own theory, but what if in Mater’s Tall Tales, “Mater the Greater” was the last episode even though it’s shown as the first, and when McQueen didn’t make the jump, they repaired him somewhere else but his memory was erased and they convinced him to be a race car, and since they decided that they didn’t want Mater to think he killed his friend by doing the jump, they also fixed him so he would forget about McQueen like he never knew him, and eventually everyone also forgot about McQueen and hated him thinking that he forgot about them and left them to become a race car. (Just a theory but it’s interesting since Mater claims that McQueen was also with his in his Tall Tales)
Radiator Springs is in the desert, so I’d imagine no rust, but the sun will bake the paint off. Only Mater displays his patina the same way some classic car owners do, as some sort of badge of honor. Like how some people won’t dye their hair, claiming they earned their grey, or not wanting to be vain. With the town having a body man/painter, and everyone sleeping inside, they stay pretty nice looking. Doc also keeps everyone running healthy, so regular maintenance that some owners neglect are typically routine preventive maintenance, like how some humans have annual checkups even though they feel fine. That said, we saw in the third movie that some cars require massive body work, which Doc probably had done to himself in his younger days, although lead instead of bondo. But in the third movie it is known that he passed away, but not mentioned how. Planes 2, which is in the same universe as the Cars franchise make a big deal about how Dusty has a faulty part, it’s discontinued, and will ultimately lead to his demise if he doesn’t play it safe. Doc, being a Hudson, has a lot of components that don’t exist anymore. There’s not really an aftermarket for Hudsons. Being the only medical professional in town, he may have had a “do not resuscitate” request as well as been an organ donor, so that some other Hudson, possibly even someone like Smokey, could continue to live. Of course, this is all going off the belief that cars have genuine souls. A car in the 50s could be parked in a field for half a century just needing a new distributor, only, given the time period, the owner did not have access to the internet, or mail ordering catalog, a local junkyard, or car club to help source them with the part. So in theory, this car is dead. But someone in the 21st century, gets this part, replaces all the fluids and lines, new battery, and starts it right up. Is the car now a zombie? Now, if you’re talking about age, as in an actual number, I think they just go off generation. Everyone’s an adult, but clearly Sally, McQueen, and the tuner gang are all young adults. In the third movie, we see the next generation of cars, which appear like they are genuinely something brand new, if manufacturers still built cars rather than trucks and SUVs. I do recall seeing a baby car in the stands who idolizes the airplanes who fly over before the race, but I don’t see how they “grow up,” unless they’re going with the 20th century Fox movie “Robots” where they just get a new body whenever the time to grow up shows up at their door.

cars gave me a look into learning about people. when we first EVER met mater we just thought he was some broken down hillbilly. when infact he had gone through alot of the world traveling adventuring and is famous for many things depending on where you go! his rust scratches dents and damage he kept because they all told his storys and his experiences and were momentos of them all. alot of people you meet have so much to tell about their lives beyond what you see in first glance. to every beat up old car is storys of their lives that would amaze you. this counts for people too.

I'm certain a big number of the things Matter talks about being isn't 100% acurate... but not 100% made up, either. The endings of most of those shorts show at least some parts of his Tall Tales are true... though that DOES means Matter is kind of a womaniser considering how many ladies he is leading on as they all show up in the endings, meaning he's going out with them all at the same time.

You can see how Mater accidentally gets involved in spying, the same thing with Mater in Tall Tales when he accidentally becomes an astronaut or king drifter, and in the film Cars 2 when Mater manages to solve the mystery of who is the boss. the villain,.. we know that Mater is smart and stupid at the same time, so maybe his experience really happened but not exactly as told
