Thanks. Just what I needed. By enabling Legacy policy is there any performance overhead in the boot up sequence (although if there is, I'm sure it is almost negligible.... just curious).
It is really better to do this _before_ you get into a state in which the PC won't boot. Then you don't have to go through booting a repair image when you actually need it.
To do this, just start the command prompt window as admin, and enter the following command (which you can copy and paste from here, unlike the video):
bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy
I don't have a bloody disc drive. I upgraded for free during the month...

1. When your computer first boots up hit the key to access boot menu
2. Go to start up order
3. Look for your USB with windows 10 on it
4. Put it at the top of the windows boot order
5. Hit save and restart
6. And just do what he does from there

you need to be in admin command prompt (search in start command and right click on command prompt and run as administrator )

Hardware? HP, Dell, Acer, etc? You probably should've done several actions when you obtained the PC.
Create a Recovery disk/flash drive. Some you can hold the Shift key while Restarting, and the screen will show you options of several choices.
If the OS came with the PC, you can download using the Media Creation Tool at Microsoft site.
By saying "now thers no way to make it boot," what do you mean? No power?Any sounds made when you turn on the machine? HDD spinning, DVD drive accessing left in drive CD?

Interesting... My PC got stuck on displaying the Windows logo, no spinning circle and no change, even after waiting 30 minutes. So I followed your instructions (and also tried a "repair Windows" which failed) and it didn't show the advanced boot options (shouldn't it be Ctrl+F8? F8 only opens a "what device do you want to boot from" dialog) but all of a sudden Win 10 boots fine again.

Er... no actually. I worked for the MoD in the UK in IT for eight years, and studied programming in C as well as attending degree level courses in IT. I started with windows 95 and worked on windows 98, 2000, unix mainframes, windows 7 and 10. I use my pc network as part of my living.
I will explain why For a long time windows has had a 'failsafe' safe mode. If your computer won't boot normally you could select this by pressing F8. Now the geniuses at Microsoft have decided to change this. I have seen a lot of comments from people stuck with unbootable PC's because to select safe mode you have to get the system on win 10 to boot normally before you can re-boot in safe mode. That's amazingly dumb.
IF you want an operating system that does not need virus checking, does not slow down over time, does not spy on you, does not try to sell you things, does not assign you an advertising id, does not bsod daily (admittedly that's probably nvidia's drivers causing that on my windows 10 system) - then I would seriously suggest trying out Linux mint.
Windows 10 is NOT an upgrade on windows 7 IMO. Linux Mint is a superior OS IF your hardware and software will run on it.

your a dumb fuck. Obviously you play with computers and dotn do any serious work on it. If you did you wouldnt have stored the data on the same partition as windows. Thats your first fuck up. Second fuck up when working with sensitive data? BACK IT UP. Next time get freenas and do routine back ups. I never store data on the same drive as windows thats asking for it. Obviously your business model didnt plan for the worst now when it comes to data protection since it MEANS SOO MUCH to you ;)
Also and the most important point, LINUX IS THE BEST OS period. Ive ditched windows10 around a year ago for linux mint, cinnamon on my desktop and xfce on my laptop. I have got to say its the most stable OS platform out there. With regular security updates, unlimited things you can do with KVMs, a lot less virus then windows, comes stock with all the programs you need to start working from the get go, NO hassle what so ever. Heck I dont even do my online banking on windows anymore its just not secure. Out of the 7 computers i have in my house only 3 runs windows. The only problem i had running into linux is not being able to SLI my GTX1070 to run 8 monitors. But easily overcome with quadro cards in SLI with mosaic view. Unless your a content creator i just cant see why windows would be better for WORK related business then linux. And BTW linux has barely any games compared to windows.

And you are an idiot if you actually believe that. Did you know Windows was the PCs version of the McIntosh?And only took 25 years to match it(OS only, no apps). Only the Mac had a database, word processor and spreadsheet built in and why it was the Engineer's choice over PCs, ENGINEER's choice, you know those guys who want to do things and not fool around with kids toys which was what level PCs and Windows began as, still with DOS undercarriage and even now command INTERPRETER IS CMD, STILL, call it UFEI, but it's still CMD built BIOS.

Besides it was only half flippant as the OS called Windows is actually going backwards in its evolution, the hardware is wasted on Windows machines. TB HDD,huge GB of RAM, Multi Gigahertz speed cpus, like I said wasted. My 386 1GHZ 512MB RAM 200GB HDD from 2001, is as fast as the newer shit that's stultified running Windows.

you need to do that on partition where is windows. First check it. use "DIR" etc....

You can not need to insert Windows 10 bootable disk or usb drive. Run command prompt as administrator and write "BCDEDIT /SET {DEFAULT} BOOTMENUPOLICY LEGACY" then press enter.
How would you do that if you can't boot Windows? The video was made to help you when you're in exactly that situation.
