    Works flawlessly, the third method. Only realize that if you have a recent Windows update you may have the powershell instead of the old cmd, and the command has to be written this way > bcdedit /set "{default}" bootmenupolicy legacy

  • @BobGuilbert
    @BobGuilbert 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You can do that or just set it so you have the option every time windows boots! The new windows 10 process is pretty ridiculous IMO because you may not be able to boot windows fully, not to mention you have to reboot like 2/3 times to do it. Do this:
    Windows button -> type "cmd" -> right click on the "Command Prompt" item -> Select "Run as Administrator" -> type this in command prompt window:
    bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy
    Do this to reverse the changes:
    bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy standard

    So basically you have to login to windows to enable it. That is the worst fucking logic I've seen. ever.

    • @TheTeacher
      @TheTeacher  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Xor rd this is because fast startup is enabled by default to reduce the boot time. If you had not enabled boot menu and now windows is not booting up then you can use the bootable media to troubleshoot and repair windows problem.

    • @crczr
      @crczr 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      A system repair disk might let you enter into the windows, if you have one. Insert that disk, and boot your system with that mass storage device by changing the boot option from the BIOS (you will have to press F12). After that, choose your language, then click trouble shoot, and now you'll be able to see the advanced options like system restore, command prompt, system image recovery, go back to previous build and startup repair. good luck!

      +Sagar Sany If I boot it then install the windows, will my files will be deleted?

    • @saucejohnson9862
      @saucejohnson9862 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Faris TJ You won't lose your files. I was stuck in a reset loop and had to use the "Reset this PC" option, you keep all your files, but you lose all your programs.

    • @TheTeacher
      @TheTeacher  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      One option is, you can troubleshoot the problem instead of reinstalling the Windows or you can use "Reset this PC" as said by +Xor rd without losing your files. That way you don't have to reinstall the Windows from scratch. But still if you want to go with re-installation then you can install the Windows on the same partition without actually formatting it and then after installing you can move to Windows.Old - Users folders where all of your previous data will be stored. But it is not recommend for Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, when you can easily reset your PC.

    Got there thanks: NOTE: Not all computers are set up for F8 to get to safe mode. F8 on some PC's actually brings up the boot menu not the selection you are looking for. So even after you use the Command Prompt method F8 will still bring up the boot menu. Most likely in this case your safe mode key will be F5

    I don't get it...is w10 not able to actually boot into dos mode? As in you turn the computer on, hit f8 and choose dos. NOT F8, go into windows safe mode and then run dos from within windows like this video and so many others.

    • @TheTeacher
      @TheTeacher  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      If Boot Menu options like Safe Mode or Command Prompt are not working and Boot Screen reappearing after selecting an option that means there is some serious problem with your Windows. The only way to access repairing options like System Restore or Startup Repair or Advanced Troubleshooting methods is to use Windows Installation Media. Boot from either a Windows Installation USB or DVD and at first setup screen you will see Repair Your Computer link at bottom left corner. Use this option to troubleshoot problems.

    • @TheTeacher
      @TheTeacher  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe this happened because of Display Drivers. Sometimes, wrong or corrupt drivers can create this situation and you can't even access the Safe Mode. So the only way around is to use the above said method to restore your PC to previous state.

    • @TheTeacher
      @TheTeacher  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Leonidas Savvides If you want to boot from DVD first then you need to change the BOOT options from the BIOS Setup. Usually the key for BIOS setup is F2 or DEL key. You can try pressing either of these two keys when you first turn on your PC. Then you need to find the BOOT PRIORITY option and here you need to set your DVD drive as the first option. Can explain it much details as different motherboards has different BIOS.
      In modern motherboards, you can directly change the BOOT order without actually moving into BIOS. For most of the latest motherboards this key is F8 or F12. If you are not familiar with these options then turn on your PC and then press the Pause / Break key once to pause the booting process. At the POST screen you may find the keys for BIOS setup and BOOT options.
      Hope it may help!

    • @leonidassavvides
      @leonidassavvides 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +The Teacher BOOT PRIORITY is in the same blue w10 layout exist for BOOT IN SAFE MODE? Or is in the old win 7 Dos bios...-not know if this exist in w10-...? I know to get in the blue layout(boot safe mode already know) in w10... bios called for w10?

    • @TheTeacher
      @TheTeacher  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Leonidas Savvides Are you using MSCONFIG? It seems that you are talking about the MSCONFIG windows settings. If that is the case then I must tell you that it is not called the BIOS. BIOS is not a part of Windows itself. It is a part of your computer hardware embedded into Motherboard. As I said earlier, you need to go into BIOS when you first TURN ON your PC not when your computer is booted into Windows. Turn on your PC and then start tapping F2 or DEL key to get into BIOS and from here you can change the BOOT Priority. Read my previous comment for further info.

    • @Awed1b
      @Awed1b 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Leonidas Savvides If you haven't learned it yet, it depends on the manufacturer. Ultimately it can be done in BIOS, but f11 or F12 in Dell can work Turn computer completely off and then as it starts try F1 esc F2 del in any order, one of them should work, until it get to a BIOS start screen. Once there, you can change the boot order.

    if i enable f8, can i use that to live boot from a usb on start up?

    • @TheTeacher
      @TheTeacher  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, F8 is just for enabling advanced boot for pre-installed windows. If you want to boot from a USB drive then you need to configure BIOS Settings and change the boot order and hard disk drive priority. Generally, the key to access the BIOS Setup is F2 or DEL. Turn on your PC and starting pressing F2 or DEL key when you see the first boot screen. Then find the settings in something like BOOT menu (because different BIOS have different options) and then there change the Boot Priority to boot from a USB Drive first.

      +Rizwan lashari Can't tell you that what exactly could be the problem but if you are able to use Windows 10 in Safe Mode then you can do one thing. Open Task Manager by pressing Control+Shift+Escape key and then click the Startup tab. Disable the Startup apps and restart and see if that helps. If yes, then you can start enabling one app in a time and then restart and see what startup app is giving the problem. Hope this may help.

    But what do you do if your laptop won't boot into the desktop??? I get as far as the security screen. I type in my password and hit enter. When the little white dots stop spinning, my screen just goes black! It won't boot as far as the desktop.

    • @TheTeacher
      @TheTeacher  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can try 2 things:
      1. Try booting into Safe Mode and if you are able to boot into Desktop then review yours last changes to the system. Like if you had installed an app then uninstall it and reboot to normal or try to disable Startup Programs for the time and see if that helps.
      2. On the Blank Screen, press CTRL+ALT+DEL keys and see if that brings the Task Manager then click File - New Task and type in EXPLORER.EXE and hit OK. See if that brings the Desktop.
      Let me know.

      Hold down the SHIFT key when clicking on Restart from the Shut Down menu in Start Menu. That will bring Advance Boot option right inside the windows before restarting and here you can choose Advanced Startup options as you like (you have to find that Boot menu option. It is right there somewhere. I can't remember it right now where that actually was). Give it a try and let me know.

    The thing is my monitor is showing nothing i cannot type the last command cuz i can't see any thing and i don't have an external monitor.... My monitor was waiting fine i changed the resolution to something bigger which my monitor couldn't support now i am unable to see anything how do i fix it i tried ctrl f8 and f8 and well but didn't work i can't only use bios menu when i press f10..... Please reply asap

    • @TheTeacher
      @TheTeacher  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You might have saved the changes after changing the resolution because after 15 seconds it reverts back automatically to the previous one, the time when you were seeing nothing. Then you might have pressed Enter key which applied that bigger resolution.
      The only solution is to bring the Advanced Startup Menu by pressing the F8 key at the right time. Sometimes, the Advanced Startup Up automatically appears after several hard reboot, which is BTW not recommend.

    • @TheTeacher
      @TheTeacher  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you are able to bring the F8 Menu then you can revert to Last Known Good Configuration or can boot into Safe Mode to troubleshoot.

      One reason of showing mismatch operating system could be if you have upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1. Right-click on the Start button and then click System and see what OS name it is showing or press Windows+R key to open Run dialog box and type WINVER.

    Hi! I bought an Intel Stick, which came with Windows 10 and Android installed. When i used to turn It ON, a boot menu was shown, to choose which OS to use. But, accidentally, i deactived this menu, pressing "don't show this menu again"... something like that. How can i enable It again? I really need to use Android too.
    Please help me! I am desperate.

    • @TheTeacher
      @TheTeacher  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure if that is going to help but you can give it a try because I have never used that Intel Stick. In Windows 10, right-click on Computer icon and choose Properties. From System Properties window, click "Advanced System Settings" from the left side pane. Under Advanced tab click Settings under "Startup and Recovery" and here make sure you can see both of the operating system in the Default Operating System list and enable "Time to Display list of operating system" option.
      That was just a guess. We use this method on PCs and Laptop when having dual operating system. Hope that will help you too.

    • @TheTeacher
      @TheTeacher  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Bazehook You need to configure BIOS settings to boot from USB drive first. After turning on your PC look for the BIOS Setup key (probably F2 or DEL key). In BIOS change the Boot Order to USB First or you might require to change the Hard Disk Drive Priority as you USB might be detected as a Hard Drive.
      Some motherboards also have the options to directly bring the BOOT PRIORITY MENU by pressing F10 or F12 keys. You can see which key correspond to what function at the POST Screen.

      Bazehook After turning on your PC, press the Pause / Break key to stop the boot process so you may see the first POST Screen and then you can see which key correspond to BIOS Setup or BOOT Order Priority. BTW - if you want to reinstall Windows then it is not F8 Boot Menu that has any concern with that.

      They have removed this functionality to speed up the boot process. If you are able to login into Windows then you can run the troubleshooter otherwise you need to a Windows Bootable USB / DVD to boot into setup and from there you can bring the Repair options.

      I don't exactly know that what last part you are talking about but assuming that you might want to know how to enable F8 Boot menu using BCDEDIT command.
      @4:05 instructions are given to enable f8 key at system startup. You only need to enable the boot menu once and later you can tap f8 key to bring the boot menu whenever you need to troubleshoot some windows issue. See, in Windows 8 and Windows 10, boot menu is disabled by default to speed up the booting process. But if you think that you might sometime need to troubleshoot windows in future then you can enable the F8 key using the BCDEDIT command as instructed in the video.

    • @TheTeacher

      F8 only works if you have enabled it in the first place. The only procedure to recover window is to use Windows Bootable Media like Bootable USB / DVD. Insert the boot media and then change the boot sequence to boot from that media (f12 might help you to change the boot order directly without moving to the BIOS). Once the Windows Setup starts, Choose the Language and then click Repair This Computer option and then follow the steps to recover your system.
