9 Things Children See Differently Than We Do

  • Kids are amazing. Their vivid imagination and creativity multiplied by their seemingly endless energy resource are things that rarely get carried on to adulthood. Kids don’t have enough experience and knowledge to understand how this world operates, which is why they see things in a different light.
It has been proven that a child’s worldview settles by the time they turn 11 years old, and they become capable of evaluating the world as an adult, solve problems and even make plans for future. Before this age, children perceive the world differently than adults do. Scientists have found out that kids perceive the world differently than adults do. And here’s how exactly!

Their imagination borders with reality 0:28
They don’t know what “abstract” means 1:39
At first they can’t recognize their parents 2:57
They learn languages lightning fast 3:46
What they know is more important than what they see 5:01
They think everyone knows what they know 6:20
If they don’t see it, it doesn’t exist 7:39
They don’t know things can be reversed 8:28
Their understanding of morals differs from ours 9:22
    #kids #children #brightside
    SUMMARY:
    - Numerous experiments have shown that little kids easily believe in supernatural things. But they’re not so naïve as you may think! For example, at as early as the age of 3, they already know when other people really do something from when they pretend and can tell an imaginary thing from a real one.
    - Scientists distinguish two stages of development: the one before you turn 11 and the one after. The difference between them is that kids under 11 years old still can’t think in an abstract manner, while those older than 11 already can.
    - In addition to seeing the world differently in their mind’s eye, kids quite literally have altered vision. Well, not really kids but newborn babies. When they first open their eyes, everything around them is unfocused and blurred, and they can’t distinguish the faces in front of them.
    - There’s a certain device in the children’s brain that allows them to learn new languages much faster than adults. He calls it “language acquisition device,” or LAD.
    - Until a certain age, children don’t realize that not everyone thinks the same way as they do and know things they know.
    - Children under the age of one are unable to realize that something they don’t see still exists. In fact, when they stop seeing an object, for them it disappears forever.
    - If something’s done, it can’t be undone. That’s how little kids think, and it concerns virtually everything. If you show a three-year-old that a shoelace can be tied, they’ll think it’s tied forever and may well start crying when they can’t get the shoe off.
    - Moral judgment is not something kids have the innate ability to understand. They learn morals from experience, and while they’re still very small, they don’t know such a thing even exists.

I think although newborn babies has blurry vision, they still can recognize their own parents by their smell, feeling, etc. Maybe it's due to hormones sth like that. New born babies are quite sensitive.

Unfortunately my full HD vision didn't arrive until age 6 when I got my first pair of glasses. It was a revelation. It had never occurred to me that I was supposed to be able to see across the room.
We see a very young child who's wearing glasses and people feel sorry for him or her. I think the kid is darned lucky that the vision problem was detected and corrected early.

The language one is actually incorrect. It doesn’t get harder with age in terms of actual learning, we just get a bit lazier and our brains work a lot differently. If you put a 30 year old in a foreign country for five years without anything to use to learn a language except for the people around them, and they have to interact with those people almost every day, they will be able to speak that language about as well as a 5 year old can speak their first language .

When I was really young my parents told me I could understand French. Since my mother's side of the family all spoke French, I was exposed to the language. I don't remember this but apparently my grandfather would speak to me in all French since he wasn't good at English. My mother said that I understood him fully and would do the actions he told me to do. I don't know if I spoke to him in French, but it's amazing how young kids can learn languages like that. Trying to learn a language now is very difficult.

ive noticed (from experience with younger siblings, not by testing kids) that younger kids dont really know what embarrassment is. like a little kid could have a messy room and have a friend over, but they wont care, while an older kid would clean theyre room before having a friend over. maybe this goes along with kids thinking everyone knows what they know. maybe they think "oh my room is messy, so everyone else's room must be messy too"
its annoying as an older sibling because, for example, our van is often messy, when i want a friend over, no one helps me clean it. i get mad at my brothers because its their mess and they say "so? who cares if the van is messy!?"
maybe its just my annoying brothers but ive seen it in their friends too.
    idk its just my theory

This is funny, cause when I was like 4 I always thought that there was a Shadow Wolf pack lurking around at night which only didn't eat me when I was completely hidden under my duvet.
But now I'm 14 and I know that hiding under a duvet would probably make it worse because of the darkness, and that wolves can just bite through it anyways!

#2 (abstracts before eleven years old) Explained something from when I was a kid. I was born the day before my brother turned 1. My birthday is the 17th and his is the 18th. Growing up, our friends couldn't figure out why he was older when my birthday came first. I know this was before we were 11, because we moved away when I was 10.

I think some of this depends on how clever the kid is. I used to get problems with other kids, as soon as I became eight. I worked out stuff in the abstract without realising it and the other kids, didn't get it and told me off, although I was right. For example they drew houses with pointy roofs, whereas I drew them with the roofs like those outside my bedroom window, also once I said it didn't matter what order we were in, when forming a circle, we would end up in the same place, if we went to it. They didn't get it, but I was right, and they still felt it was wrong inspite of reality. Once I told a silly joke and one girl believed it was a real statement and embarrassed others, but oddly not herself, I suspect she is still gullible, even at sixty. I suppose I stopped being a little child at eight, but unlike my friends I never lost my imagination, because it stayed with me, because of being very clever and a born artist. I was different from the other kids and I knew it. Do not be afraid to be smart and don't let the other kids get you down, if you're smarter than them, go with it, because when you're sixty like me, one day, you will still be smart while they have started to lose their memory and intellect. Nerds rule, after all some of us have built the modern world. ❤️

People were wondering why children's eyes are blurry when they're babies. That's because eyes shut majority of the time. When you shut your eyes for a long time your eyes are not used to the brightness that's why your eyes are blurry.
Like when I'm in the dark too much my eyes start getting blurry but they end up fixing themselves once I'm in the light enough. Because my vision is used to this much light
