    Heeeyy, finally a British desert tank. Nice work and some nice little tips I shall be adding to my own. Thank you my man.

    I have found that Army painter Arid Earth is a nice dry bush colour for Skeleton bone or Desert Yellow. The tank looks great.

      Interesting choice! My first thought would have been for Brainmatter Beige, but I can certainly see Arid Earth working, especially over the Desert Yellow.

    The model looks great! I wanted a good desert scheme for my British armor and this really helps. Thanks for sharing this.

      There were only 6 Churchill tanks in King Force, the official sand colour was Light Stone 61. The disruptive colour is debated, dark brown is the front runner as that is reported by veterans.
      The base colours for all vehicles were Light Stone 61 or Portland Stone 64 and later in 1942 Desert Pink ZI.

    Always liked the look of the Churchill tank, and it's nice to see one of the more interesting Allied colour schemes being used. Nicely done

    I love this. There were a lot of steps you took in this one that were surprising to me, like doing the wash and drybrush before doing the camo, but it looks great. I especially love the weathering.

      The Soft Tone won't do much of note over German Grey, so it's easier to just forego it entirely. You could Dark Tone or Nuln Oil the black patches, but after everything else goes over the top... eh! It's not much worth the time spent, I'd say. Not unless you're planning on reeeally spending the time there.

    You mention the desert war bug; I've no idea how long transmission would take from Germany to the UK, but it seems I've caught it too! Just ordered a small 8th army force from Pendraken (including their excellent 'tank crews drinking tea' vignette) and the Crusader III will be my first attempt at painting armour. Needless to say, this vid's gonna be invaluable, Sledge!

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      Those 10mm figures are a lot of fun! Pendraken's stuff is lovely, I've got a *ton* of their British and German stuff I need to paint, as well as some early war French.

    • @brushmans-guild
      @brushmans-guild ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SonicSledgehammerStudio Nice! Their sculpts really are fun. Plus I'm craving the dopamine rush from finishing minis, and the speed with which 10mm can be painted seems like the ideal way to get it! Out of interest, did you base your 10mm stuff for any particular game? I'm curious how I might base them for Bolt Action, since that's the game I'm keen to use them for. Any recommendations?

    Beautiful video, as ususal, one thing that is ironic is about camos' schemes, in the desert often the Commonwealth forces had a more "colourful" pattern, such as for some Matildas or Crusaders, when generally Axis' tanks were mostly in Desert yellow, either Germans and Italians' ones. On the contrary in the ETO were the German tanks to have a more garish pattern, such as the "ambush" 3 colours one, and the allies generally were painted in OD or Bronze green(Commonwealth's)

    Looking at your soft tone - water mix I wonder, have you ever tried oil washes and it just was not your thing or did you never feel the need to go with oils?

      The short answer is probably not any time soon, unfortunately. They're not a cheap little box of troops, and I've not got much use for them personally. If it helps, I'd probably paint the skin quite similarly to how I've done the Fallout Deathclaw previously, then paint what little clothing they're wearing as normal.

    Love this color and technique. It's by far the best "true" light tan recipe I've seen. But if I was willing to put ina bit more work and had an airbrush to play with, are there any steps you would add? Considering a white highlight like the steampunk video in the same color scheme.

  • @garyrollins5533

    My issue is that most armoured vehicle sent to N. Africa, would have been in the usual green colour before repainting in desert cam. Therefore, any chipping would reveal the original paint scheme underneath the desert scheme before that too, was eroded by usage.

    Big fan of this video I keep returning to it for my other north African vehicles. Would a bren carrier use the same colour scheme? struggling to find references for them. Thanks. Also any chance of a video explaining British Decals? as I have a north African project i'm working on. American vehicles are so much easier, stick a star on and call it a day haha. Thanks again.

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio

      Necromancer Cloak is similar, but quite a bit lighter - you might be best off just using Matt Black and letting the drybrush pick up some of the detail.

      I didn't have any for the Churchill. RTR also didn't really have much beyond a T-number on the side of the tank in the western desert campaign, which makes things nice and quick.
