- Drummer Stanton Moore is one of the busiest drummers in New Orleans. Everybody wants to work with him. Likewise with the other members of his trio, David Torkanowsky (piano) and James Singleton (bass). These three guys are among the most sought-after musicians in a city brimming with great players. So it was a true delight to get them into the KNKX performance studio for this live session. Buckle up, turn it up and take a ride with the Stanton Moore Trio.

Hunter Peterson It is because this radio program has the DW drums prepared! If you see the Christian Mcbride trio playing in this radio, Ulysses Owens Jr. is playing the same set. And also you can see that Stanton is still using his signature snare though
@@danielwon3171 That's actually not his snare. He uses a Dunnett Titanium that Ron makes for him called "the spirit of New Orleans". Looks like it might be a Ludwig snare, looking at the lugs.

+brian boyd Stanton also using his signature cymbals. In this case I think it's a 20" ride as opposed to the 22" he generally uses on his non-jazz gigs. Sure would love to know the weight of this one. Stanton, any chance you are reading this? :)

This comment is more telling of your character than the talent of the bass player, who, by the way, is one of the most sought after bass players in New Orleans. Not the mention having played with Scofield, Ellis Marsalis, Lionel Hampton, Chet Baker and countless others. Think before you type something silly...
Aidan may have been making a sly remark about James's bass face. The other possibility is using the negative as a positive. Miles Davis used "terrible" as a way of saying "incredible." And then there is the words "bad" or "sick" when you want to say that something is really great. Now, I've never heard "sad" used as a remark when something is awesome, but... I don't know every single slang word used of the English language around the globe.
No one uses "sad" to describe a good musician, on the contrary, "sad" is commonly used among musicians to describe bad playing. @@jodi183

@@danm776 I was being a bit facitious. Singleton is one bad bassist. I love his solo here. Super bluesy & melodic. His bass face doesn't bother me one bit. He's into it. The fact that he can move around the way he does and never lose time or feel... he's got chops, musicianship and is a top notch bassist.
Man that bass face is distracting. He's in so much pain. Maybe he should learn an instrument that doesn't hurt so much to play

That is what is known in the industry as the "stank face", which indicates that a muso has ascended beyond mortal status, and is now deep inside the groove. Get over it!
That face means he's in another dimension only a Jedi could go.

@@steveross8326 You are WRONG to personally attack Nick Roels for his opinion on the solo. He has a right to express his view of the performance. If you were to poll a group of professional jazz drummers they would probably agree that it was basic & not displaying a lot go skill or technique. Whether or not it is tasteful is debatable, but it certainly was not on the same level of musicianship as the rest of the band.

@@steveross8326 You're still not getting it - not "bling" - we're talking musicianship. Check the year this was recorded - 2015 - Stanton was just beginning his journey into being a serious jazz musician. Today, 2020, he would play this differently because he has been working hard at it for the last five yrs. If u listen to his jazz recordings today u will see how much better he is. Maybe Nick Roels should have kept his opinion to himself, but I don't think he was trying to be a typical negative internet a$$hole. I think he was just being honest on his assessment of the solo.
Few years ago here in Asheville Stanton's band came thru. I enjoyed the show, fantastic. But afterwards, he was meeting "fans" and proceeded to literally grope a young woman. He was off to the side of things and maybe thought he was out of site. I was waiting to meet him. He was pulling her in close and his hands were all aggressive on her ass and it was just totally cringe & creepy! She pulled away. It was obvious what he was trying to do. Dude was even wearing his wedding ring. I don't listen to his stuff anymore.
