  • My friend ‪@martymorissette‬ and I take advantage of unusually warm early April weather and get our first paddle of the season in. We paddle the Dumoine River in Quebec from the bridge crossing at km 25 back to Ontario.

    Maxim - your cinematography is such a pleasure to watch... And when you narrate, it gives a calming feeling... What a treat!! You are a master at this art of nature filmography ...

      You are too kind, my friend! I'm not much of a natural when it comes to speaking to the camera, and I find the narration part quite difficult, so it's amazing to hear that someone enjoys it! Thanks for the kind words and for stopping by and watching. All the best to you!

    Love the new canoe Max, great to see you out on the lakes again.
    As always, your camera work and nature shots are breathtaking!
    Love when you show the birds along with what species they are, it's like having a bird catalogue come to life. Can't wait to see your adventures this spring & summer.😎

    Hi Max, great to see you back, really great imagery and, especially, the legends for the the birds. As a UK birder, but knowing little of your Canadian fauna this is a god send, as seeing a bird and not knowing what it is, is just frustrating.
    Also, as an aside, good to see you making real videos and not swanning around on a sunny beach on holiday pretending to 'survive' the 'hardship' like someone else I can think of.
    Keep it up and keep the labels coming. Best wishes.

    Maxim….Thank you for taking us along! I saw your friends boat and I got excited thinking it was X taking Patches out on the water again!😃👍🏼😃. Your friend had the right idea in my mind anyway, with the hammock. But that’s just me.😁.

      The hammock is fantastic - As with anything, it has its compromises, but I'm hoping to get my hands on one myself sooner or later...
      You're not the only one asking for patches to make an appearance in a video (our grandma Marge included). I gotta bug Xander about it!

      Hello, Pam! Thank you for stopping by! Thank you also for the feedback on labeling the birds - I worries that the text might be visually distracting, but it's nice to know people enjoy it so I'll keep doing it. And yes, we always assure my mother that we are being safe - the most important thing is that we keep a satellite emergency device that has a gps tracker - so if anything were to go wrong, family members would be able to see exactly where we travelled.
      All the best and thank you again!

    Cool canoe Max! My husband also has a camo Swift canoe, it's hilarious when we paddle through marshland, he completely disappears😂. I especially loved the fondue meal, that was a really fun idea for a canoe trip, and I may have to try that myself. Stay safe out there😍

    In Denmark we often used fondue for New Year's Eve back in the 80s, instead of sauce we used oil or red wine. Denmark got the idea from southern Europe.

    Hey! Caught you in Xander's recent excursion into Northern Quebec, but haven't seen your own for a couple of months - glad your back! Chinese fondue, sometimes referred to as a hot pot - delish! Beautiful adventure, Max, and always soothing to watch. As always, love your knack for presenting the great outdoors. Already looking forward to the next one!

      Thanks Alan! I worked on my version of that trip and will release it in November. It was too late in the year and I figured people were no longer interested in winter camping and why not wait until they are again.

      Is that a air bag in front of your canoe? If yes what does it do?

    • @maximbudnick
      @maximbudnick  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Appreciate that! I am trying somehow I have not been able to get more out recently. I have three in the works at the moment.

    • @maximbudnick
      @maximbudnick  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes that is an airbag. If you flip the canoe in rapids it keeps it floating higher in the water and thus less likely to wrap around a rock.

    Well that was a nice surprise! Great shots and sounds Max. Glad you got out and enjoyed your first soft water outing this year in a nice new canoe yet. The Dumoine is just upriver from where I live but beyond my abilities at my age. And yes, I think the camo canoe is better than canary yellow for wildlife observation:)

    I think any canoe that gets you on water to make content is a great canoe. It looks nicely kitted, shorter than your yellow canoe? Rockered, bow and stern floatation, you gearing for more white water trips? I respect your approach to river running. You always seem very calm and deliberate. Paddle on!

    Great to see a video from Maxim pop up. Love your style and know how hard some of those shots are to get. Love your channel. Cool collab with Marty. Did the Dumoine when I was much younger, late 1990s. Great river, loved it. The Pocket Canyon is on my radar. I have 2 dedicated solo canoes now, but both have ~11" clearance between seat and floor. At age 72, getting my size 11 feet in and out of the kneeling position is a challenge, as is my feet going to sleep. Do you happen to know the seat to floor dimension for the Pocket? Just subscribed. Also what is the name of Marty's channel? I would like to check it out too.

    • @maximbudnick
      @maximbudnick  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Bert very sorry for the delay. I'm not exactly sure what the dimensions are from the seat to the floor are but they seem pretty standard to me. I have big feet and kneeling with my feet under the seat I am always aware of trying to pull them out especially in rapids I have not noticed that the pocket canyon is shorter or taller than my other larger canoes. Best would be to just try one out. If I remember I will get a measurement for you next time I'm near my canoe across town.

    So what did you think of the Pocket Rocket?

    • @maximbudnick
      @maximbudnick  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don't really think about it since it's such a simple piece of gear, but I've been using it forever. It broke a while back (after several years of use), I fixed with some snare wire, and now I'm still using it. It's simple, robust, and I find the compact hard carrying case adds to making it a pleasure to use. I recommend it, but because it's worked so well for me, I haven't really compared it to much else so far... Cheers and thanks for watching!

      Good eye Kristen! Yes it was an otter I actually got a little bit more footage but it wasn't usable because it was so shaky. I really need a new tripod haha I wish that sequence could have been longer. But you are the only person to mention it so far so good on you.
