    I am allergic and very fearful of bees. I was looking on TH-cam to find deterrents for bees around my little house and I came across 628 dirt rooster and I am now addicted to your video's. I just love your demeanor, I love to see your dad, and some of the others that show up in your videos. Even when it is a tough removal, there is still laughter. Still afraid of bees but I can't stop watching your videos. You are a gentle giant, fun, and real. Thank you for sharing your hobby (you know, where it is a way of life). 😊

    Besides doing a lot of laughing as I was helping (?) with this cut out, I learned a very interesting fact about Randy....he enjoys working in high places. The guy takes to heights like a fish in water. My hat is off to you brother. Can't wait to take out the next one. By the way, did your wife say anything about you using her good kitchen knife to remove that hive?

    You need to make a playlist called "chewed up" where it is a compilation of all your run-ins with natures finest. Also, would you please do a video called, "How to remove a bee hive without having your butt handed to you". Did a small removal about that size and man oh man... I was calm and collected, used smoke, but golly gee they were having none of it! I wish I had a pair of ruby red slippers so I could say, "there's no place like home".

    • @628DirtRooster
      @628DirtRooster  8 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Aw man! Now I've got to go find some size 13 ruby red slippers for a video. LOL
      The "chewed up" playlist would include half my videos. I'm always getting stung. I have gotten better with age though. Maybe they figure I'm looking to frail to be a threat.

    • @628DirtRooster
      @628DirtRooster  8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Joseph Elam We can still do them right now but the queen may not mate very well. You have better luck if you have a lot of colonies close by.

      628DirtRooster yes, left at the begining of 2012. When you lay a road and the next year, you dig it up to put in culverts, and the next year you put pumps in, its just like you say in another video, spend the money, do it right, and save further hassel. (The roach poo video! ) lol!

    Well, I finally bit the bullet and subscribed. I'm allergic and the videos give me the willies BUT it's shore interesting! Glad you got a bunch of bees there. They were getting very far and few between here in the hills. Had a banjo picking buddy that had over 200 hives behind his house. I'd go see him in the winter. Thanks for a 'clean' show. Let's see if I casn translate into US. Man. I've had a bad day, took the day off to take my truck (landrover) into the shop for it's annual roadworthy certificate. It failed - the front suspension is busted up. Going to cost me $1300 to fix. Had to walk back from the shop in the rain all grumpy. BUT.. these two videos of you and Jeff have been the feel good factor of the day and put a smile back on my face. I just can't stop watching you both. Great video ending too.

    I really like u and jeff...I've learned so much I wish I had mentors like u in my area....but my 1st hive is thriving ...I actually think they will make the winter just fine. Orientation flights happening all the time and I just expanded them, 2 deep now and they are drawing the 2nd really good...I'm totally hooked on bees but I'm so new...I credit my success to u dirt rooster and jeff, barnyard bees, and David burns. Or is it barns? U know who I'm talking bout anyways I have family in Clarksdale Mississippi. ..we were all born and raised there...moved up north to illinois when I was born though. Got a question for you. New to bee keeping. Started my first hive in the spring. Up to 3 hives already. Live here in South Florida. I am sure I am bee keeping but my bees don't ever store any honey, makes me think I am raising hornets…I see pollen and nectar, not ever any stored honey? I have tried many times to give them sugar water but they don't ever touch it? Am I doing something wrong or do I have honey less bees???? I put supers on and they never make comb? Everyones waiting for the honey and they bees just won't give….

    • @628DirtRooster
      @628DirtRooster  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      First make sure they aren't horse flies. If they aren't building comb your sugar mix may be too thick. If it's too thick they'll store it as honey but only if they have comb drawn to put it in. A thinner mix 1:1 will make them draw comb. If there are good things in bloom they will barely touch the feeder. If you are in a pine forest or something like that there sometimes will be plenty of pollen but not much nectar. Right now there's not much blooming. I'd keep a feeder on them whether they take it or not.

    You are such a charmer! Have you ever gone to a removal with all your gear? Do you do yearly maintenance? What kind of things would you reccomend as kind of a checklist? Thanks for posting, as always :D

    • @628DirtRooster
      @628DirtRooster  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Look at this comment. Who's the charmer now? ;)
      I don't think I've ever been fully suited up with gloves and all more than twice.
      I do yearly maintenance biannually. LOL
      Check lists vary widely depending on what we're doing.

      Skatooli A smoker is a must. A good smoker, a hive tool and some type protection would be a good starting point.

    have you ever found AFB in a tear out? and what would proper procedure be if you did find it after all I doubt you could torch the house?

    • @628DirtRooster
      @628DirtRooster  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't and it's treatable but if I found it in a house I would exterminate the colony and boil my tools.

    • @machscga6238
      @machscga6238 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      But what about the house? Would the house still carry contamination and woulddent that contamination need to be taken care of?

    • @628DirtRooster
      @628DirtRooster  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mach SCGA I'd treat it pretty much like any other removal and pack the space with insulation and block any access so bees didn't get in there again. You could do a lot of other things if you wanted to waste a bunch of time but as long as there's no access for the bees there shouldn't be any more problems.

      We're dry. Thanks for asking. We peeked out about 6 feet of water on our road but were able to get out 2 days later. We're above our road so no damage on the homestead and the bees were never affected. Thanks for asking.

    I been watching a lot of your videos and other bee/wasp videos. I happen to see a video about africanized/killer bees. I was wondering if you have ever dealt with them? Or do you steer clear of them?

    • @leebarnes655
      @leebarnes655 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They don't seem to be around there for the most curious reason, I would like know why too. Very large and nation wide beekeeping goes on in this region and I suspect it's because of this natural vacuum of africanized bees. Randy has some video showing the commercial boys getting after it and our guys wind up with a pickup bed full of lost bees, several boxes filled in the blink of an eye.

      Triple stack setup (two deeps and a medium) with bottom, top, frames, queen excluder, bees, $325 to $375 is fair.

    Why didn't you take the plastic foundation out of that old frames and put the combs from the hive with rubber bands into the frames? They would still have their own brood and honey and will be much more happy. Or did you fix that at home later?
