I had a volunteer Cherokee Purple tomato that I let grow. It was in a convenient spot. The tomatoes were some of the largest and tastiest that I grew this year. I've saved the seeds to see if I get the same results.

Last summer we bought some cherry plum tomatoes from of all places, LIDL. I had placed them in a dish on the counter and we ate them en mass, as we do tomatoes. We loved them so much I decided to take chance and save the seed. I assumed they would be an F1 and they wouldn't come true.............. Turns out they did and they produced so many cherry plums this year. I have, of course, saved plenty of seeds this season for next year, they are the sweetest tomatoes I have ever tasted and didn't get so any blight at all. I actually still have tomatoes on vines right now. Win Win!!

Thank you so much. I've learned something new. I'm grateful you did a segment on calendula. Within the past 5 yrs I have had to learn a new way of gardening due to a move to a different climate. Honestly due to the pandemic I was able to finally grow a decent garden in 2021. ( Yeah!) I really missed it in my soul.. Back home I let the calendula go to dry, brown seeds in the garden. Here I'm not so lucky. I never knew as long as the seeds were formed I could dry it. Duh! Thank you! Sending much love from across the pond x

Blowing chaff from seed is called winnowing. Another useful method is to use various sieves and colanders. Depending upon the size of the holes, the seeds and the debris either the seeds or the debris are retained.

I save radish seeds, I grow them for the pods and then I leave a few bigger ones to ripen and harvest the seeds when the pod is dry. I used to harvest Calendula seeds as well but they are so great at self seeding that I no longer do that.

Alotments are cheap you can get a discount half price if you know anyone over 65, you can half plots or full plots, but go for a full plot without any ivy. anything with ivy don't have it. but find a good one. some are smaller, others are bigger. and be sure there are decent people as most alotments are open not closed like this one. lucky girl. I have one in Birmingham. it will take time to set up. it will come in times my se. FOLLOW YOUR OWN VISION AND DO WHAT YOU WANT TO DO, AND YOU'LL BE HAPPY DOING IT. Some people don't agree with my stuff but its my allotment and I do the way im happy ;)

Hi Katrina! I have just received my allotment with two large polytunnels, and I found your channel! I am in Scotland and I believe that's not much differences in temp than Nottingham? Perhaps similar vegetables and flowers should grow. It is so much work to be done, I stared from zero, om gosh ,cleaning the polytunnels was a thing! I am starting just to do some seedlings, not much, as I don't have any but thank you so much for the tip! Is it worth to do any social media thing like youtube channel and instagram? Perhaps someone would like to see my hell lots of struggling! haha Best wishes from Edinburgh! Kat x

what a wonderful video!!! so inspiring, thank u! a bit of clarification if you get a chance, so you cancut flower heads off when they are still fresh and green like the calendula seed heads and then wait and they will dry out on their own? Or do you sometimes have to keep them on the plant until they become dry and brown, like I think you said about the lupine? Is it just different for different flowers? Thank u so much!

Do you know what CDO is? It's OCD in alphabetical order! I'm CDO with my seed saving...I've been a faithful audience member from the beginning and I think this is my favourite episode so far because I'm a seed freak too!!Cardiospermum, Ricinus, Mirabilis...they are all fascinating to look at! I carry a 10/20/30 hand lens with me all the time...my car has a supply of McDonald's bags for on the spot harvesting but I store everything in coin envelopes. And I save every packet of cilica I can get my hands on to help control the humidity in the camping cooler I store the envelopes in...if there is help for this disorder I'm not sure I want it!
