    Thumbnail isn’t clickbait, I’ve learnt this much on multiple occasions 😂 leave a comment down below (I’ll try to reply!). As this is like a guide, revisit this video as you go through parts of the method, so that you don’t miss key steps out. Be sure to check the link in the description box to see worked examples of how I use Anki, plus the ChatGPT prompts for reference - let me know in comments if you check it!!

    You just gotta grind. I do my anki's while i train on my triathlon bike, I'm locked in from the pain of riding and my speed + retention goes up a lot. Mind you this doesnt work for anaerobic sessions. Lots of people want the benefits of spaced repetition without the days, months, year long efforts it takes. You cant beat 1hr a day for a year with 2 weeks of cramming. That is my biggest motivator, i never want to be in the position of having to stay up for a week straight to pass my med exams again.

    • @Salim_Ahmed
      @Salim_Ahmed  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Completely agree! I do my anki during my breaks at the gym too, between sets ahaha
      And spaced repetition is exactly as you say, needs to be done over time, it's why i have a video on studying 2hrs a day, as opposed to saying to study all day every day! Thanks for engaging and all the best with your exams :)

  • @goodyeoman4534
    @goodyeoman4534 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    Good explanation. For me, the hard part was the logistics of arranging when to revisit each topic. Dozens of study topics soon had me in a state of bewilderment and I ended up just using instinct for when to repeat each one. As for the active recall, it worked a treat - I remember going over DVT clinical pathway about ten times and I absolutely nailed the exam question based on that.

    Your previous video was really helpful. Saw instant improvements (like crazy results and realised where I was going wrong) Would help us further if you could make a video on how to take effective breaks. (even during initial stages of improving focus).
    What qualifies as a break and why do we need it ? Or is it just a distraction?

    • @Salim_Ahmed
      @Salim_Ahmed  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Glad to hear that my other video has helped you! Breaks are for sure necessary - I think it's largely about realising when it's fine to take a break i.e. if you've done a good amount of work and start to lose focus then it might be time for a break, as opposed to taking a break after 5 minutes of studying etc. And also, what qualifies as a break is a good question - I'm not too sure if just mindlessly scrolling on socials is a good way to have a break, whereas maybe walking or getting up to eat or drink something is a healthier alternative.

    Yk you're making loads of good content..! just a suggestion- yk, school students like us make a lot of handwritten notes and most of the stuff goes offline. Thus, making typed notes first, then making questions- is a ton lot of work! Ofc, these are good options for ppl who hv to study a lot online with all their content available in just one click, however, try to cover different aspects for ppl of diff categories too. Like maybe alternatives to speed learning and memorising for ppl who have most of their work done in written? lol... Anyways, you're going great! So much better than other yt channels.

    I'm sitting for the medical admission test and the syllabus is all about numerical datas in biology, chemistry, physics and general knowledge. It's not about the actual biological terms or applications of chemistry and physics. I chose to study medicine because it's really fascinating to learn about all these things, but the admission phase is tiring me out as I can't even remember the exact number of gymnosperm species in a certain area of the world. Thanks for this video, I really needed it.

    In one of your videos you gave us advice on how to actually increase your reading speed. Regarding that and the thing you have said in this video, i want to share some challenges I'm facing as a new med student.
    While completing the vast and elaborate sea of concepts, how to approach them first? If i focus just on book reading, i have quite a good reading speed but i do get struck at places (for eg biochemistry, how vit D is synthesized in the skin, i can complete the entire page in 2 mins, but for me to fully understand the thing, it may take 30 mins. In that way i can hardly complete one chapter in a day compared to what you said, read 1000+ pages in a day.
    So my question lies, what should i actualy do, should I just rely upon understanding the thing and take one day to complete the topic or let the understanding portion remains secondary, i will just read those parts no matter how much of it I could grasp in one go and subsequently after several go's and re-readings before and after the exams from the same and different books, would I be able to completely understand the entire thing?

    • @muztobashafin5828
      @muztobashafin5828 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      I think at first you should go through a chapter with out the intention of memorising and then you should try to memorise

    • @Salim_Ahmed
      @Salim_Ahmed  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Yep this is good advice - I'd suggest looking up something called 'priming' when you read (I thinkkk it might be the same as pre-reading). This tens to help me with understanding content when it's a lot more conceptual
      I think especially with more of the more technical topics, such as biochemistry, it helps a lot to get an idea of the bigger picture. When I was learning about all of the different pathways in biochemistry, I found it useful to get an overview of the main players in the pathways, the beginning and final products etc. Just getting an overview served as good landmarks for me to then work on learning the finer details. And to be honest though, I feel like a lot of the stuff at the end of the day still is purely memorising as opposed to understanding, especially if it's memorising steps of a pathway

    What is your routine with reviewing your anki cards? I find I try to get them all done in one sitting, which just tires me out. Thank you!

    • @Salim_Ahmed
      @Salim_Ahmed  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      How many on average are you doing per sitting? I tend to get them done in one go tbh, which may take between 30mins to an hour. Sometimes I'd even do them during gym between my workout sets (I'm not the only one to do this, some of my friends do too 😂). I think just fit it around in a way that works well for you - if it feels like it's too much, or unnecessary to do that much, maybe adjust the settings a bit to alter frequency. Thanks for commenting!

  • @nicolefung5870
    @nicolefung5870 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    How many cards would you recommend to start off with if it’s across multiple subjects? For example for 4 subjects how should the setting be set of the spaced repetition pattern or should it be left the same as your suggested format in the video? thank you this was really informative btw!

    • @Salim_Ahmed
      @Salim_Ahmed  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I'd keep the setting the same - just limit how many you actually do per day. For me, i had points where i was going through i think 5 modules a day close to exams - if i initially learnt 800-1000 cards a day for a single module, I'd jus split that amount across. Hope it helps! But i do think its better to do one at a time (subject wise) of learning new cards a day if possible

    Hey Salim, thanks for the wonderful video but I was looking how could we "learn" things in the first place. Instead the video largely talks about how to retain already learned info, so it didn't serve my purpose really. It would be really helpful if you could do one video on "How" aspect of learning. Also, the visualize part that you discussed is great & could come handy but considering my subjects it is not possible to visualize them. But nevertheless another amazing video 😃

    • @Salim_Ahmed
      @Salim_Ahmed  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey, thanks for commenting! Ahaha yeah as the title/tn suggests this video focuses on memorising as opposed to learning/understanding - but yeah that is definitely going to be a different video hopefully not too far away. But the thing is, this memorising concept is good for the first step for going through info that has not been learnt yet as it's the approach I had for initially seeing and learning facts I didn't know before. What subject are you studying at the moment? Be sure to check out the link in the description box for worked examples on Anki, as that has options that doesn't really involve images but other question-style alternatives which may apply. Thanks again for commenting and the kind words!

      Hmm not too sure how to reply tbh 😂 you just gotta read it haha - i think at the start stick with your normal reading speed. To minimise internal monologue, maybe try humming in your head or repeat "1, 2, 3" to see if that helps. Then go up in speed. Just make sure you're absorbing what's you're actually reading by trying to remember back on it after you've gone through it. So start with smaller chunks of text / shorter sentences.
