The lantern I used in this video is a Coleman model 235 kerosene lantern produced in 1935 I used Coleman Silk-Lite mantles, Kleen-strip brand Denatured alcohol.
It’s a childhood memory having Coleman lanterns at our cottage. Then the cottage was sold, I got older and lived life for years. Then………… I got the bug. I bought one, the later found another one for a good price and then the addiction started. I own scores of lanterns and indoor Coleman Lamps. I bought one today for $5 while buying a canoe paddle at someone’s house. I saw it sitting there and asked if it was for sale. The seller said it doesn’t work and said take it for $5. It’s a Feb 1947 and wanted to get rid of it. I cleaned it up, did the usual cleaning internally and it runs like a champ. This IS my addiction. Thank you so much for this video.
I understand the nostalgia of these lanterns, especially for men. But L.E.D tech has equalled and surpassed this in terms of ease-of-use, safety and brightness.
LED also doesn’t attract mosquitoes………… but for multi-day outings and anyplace that’s truly off-grid for long periods of time these will always have a place and nostalgia as you mentioned will be a driving force in their use for a few more years. …….. Thanks for watching !!!!

@@DadGoesCamping Yes, but with the rise of portable power stations, that is a non-issue.
I agree to an extent…… but which one will still be working in another 100 years ?
@@DadGoesCamping hard to say if you'll still be able to get kerosene in a hundred years.
After the LED comments I thought I should light this lantern again…… Much better than LED !!’
