I agree, should have the correct fabricated frame bracket with a large bolt and spring, also welding on frames is fine as long as you only weld on the web, stay away from corners
I wonder what happened to the original spring bolt hold downs? I hope the frame twisting doesn't crack the tank now that its welded solid 🤔. I'm just a pessimist, dont mind me😉. I usually overthink things. Liked the video, glad you guys are doing well! Keep 'em coming.✌️
Long gone I suppose. I wanted to bolt it the right way but the customer wanted it welded. I'm sure it will cause cracks eventually. It's an offroad only truck that is getting close to retirement anyways so they weren't worried about it. Thanks for watching like always! 👍

Did you disconnect the battery to the water truck before burning in the frame? Genuine question. As I understand it, welding to frames with battery connected can burn out engine computers. Great video, keep them coming!
@Jordan-ce7sf no I didn't. I rarely disconnect them and have never had a problem. Certain pieces of heavy equipment I will kill the power, but they have a switch so it's easy to be safe on the real expensive stuff. I always keep my ground right near where I'm welding so the current doesn't have far to travel. It won't travel through the whole frame. Just from ground to stinger. So just make sure no computers or anything that can get fried are between your ground connection and where you're welding. Thanks for watching! 👍

I would have made a bracket, with 1” bolt, and a heavy duty spring like it’s suppose to have. Not weld to frame. All that water sloshing around sure gonna tear that lil 3/8 plate. Nice truck though
@hankimus10 like I've said in all the other comments saying this. I agree with you and recommended that. The customer wanted a quick repair and asked for us to weld it like it was.
@hankimus10 yea it happens pretty often actually. Going against my recommendation usually gets us return work so I'm somewhat OK with it. Working on the truck tour. It's 110 daily here so we're waiting for it to cool off to do a proper rig tour and not die 🤣
Could have extended the original channel ,weld plus bolt , would look more proper and cleaner . Don't mean to be a critic I like your operation ,I could also be wrong.
@shottymcshotgunface2750 I guess you didn't see the other comments on this subject. We all know it's not the best thing to do. Doesn't mean I won't do it if that's what the customer wants. I would never do it on a highway vehicle regardless of what the customer wants. This truck is offroad only.
I agree. But have you ever heard the saying that the customer is always right? That's how they wanted it. It's an Offroad only truck that's close to retirement so nobody really cares if it cracks.

Yep I get it. Sometimes it’s better to do a job and make a few bucks, as long as the customer knows it’s not the best option. Cheers bro!

Welding directly to the frame is a big nono.

You left a gap between the tank and the frame so now your welds become stress points on the frame . Fail
Wrong way to fasten any bed or body to a chassis, and never a tank.
