One of the most criminally underrated hard rock bands of the 70s. This is a great example of their ability to play sophisticated progressive heavy rock.
They had a huge success in many countries like Germany, Scandinavia or even success in Australia.. (except France unfortunately...) They also reached US charts several times, not so usual for a british glam rock band at that time..
I agree Jerry. They were totally underrated. I personally think that they were the best band of the 70s. I love each and every one of the band members. I love their variety of music. I haven't found another band yet that all of the members can sing lead
You said it. If more people would really listen to Sweet. They were underappreciated for their stellar musicianship. All of them. But Mick Tucker blows me away without fail
They pretty much only played the 3 big hits here in the US and we never heard anything else so a lot of peeps thought they were a splash in the pan band which could not be farther from the truth! :)
I’ve really been into them for about a year now. I new the few US radio hits but had no freakin idea how talented they were and how many incredible songs they have.
Yes, we all agree. Mick Tucker was a master of those sticks, and yes, Sweet, their 'presence' and their songs were all criminally underrated in the 1970's. 😎👍🏻
SWEET! Seriously one of the Greatest Line ups of ANY R&R group EVER! These boys could/Can sing like no others except maybe later when Queen came on the scene. But even then these guys could do it all live even though the TV stations made them do a lot of lip syncing due to the stations inability to handle a complex group like them. They could play like no other as well! Maybe they played hits and made hits but to me that's one of the great talents so many of the others couldn't do. I know a lot of the songs were written by others but not all and the way SWEET made them their own and pulled them off......Unparalleled!! IMHO!!
Purely brilliant! I always loved this band! The most underrated band who gave everyone a run for their money! Blew most away!! They should be remembered for being great musicians and singers! Queen obviously were influenced by them!

I love seeing a band like Sweet do it live. These guys were a great band that really played and not a manufactured bunch of miming strangers. They look so comfortable in their skin and this is a great number with great guitar riffs by Andy Scott and bassist Steve Priest looking ultra laid back. They may have been glam rock but all their numbers were genuine, and several, big hits! Sad the band members are 3 light now. Unforgettable! RIP guys!
That’s exectly the thing about Sweet. I loved their popular’songs in the 70’s , was only able to appreciate their harder material later on. These guys have very varied offering in musical styles, that makes that I am still enjoying them after 50 years. I hope to travel to a concert in Germany in the summer of 22
I felt the same way! I'd usually sort of "tune out" the song, telling myself that the album actually ended with "Into The Night"...LOL. But today at 61 years old, there's hardly a Sweet song I'll ever not listen to. Hell, at this rate I may actually get into "Blue Jean Blues" before I die so I can say that EVERY song on ZZ Top's "Fandango" was great.😅😅

The best SWEET song of them all. All star performance by every member. Mick Tucker is one of the most underrated drummers of the 70’s , w/o question. How this didn’t get major airplay is beyond me .
Actually it was on the top 100 in Chinada Oops I mean Canada back then. We loved our version of the greatest hits album here "Desolation Boulevard" but that album had different songs on it in different countries. We played that album until the tape wore out then until the groves cut too deep! LOL. True!
Rest in Peace Steve Priest. IMHO, the music of Sweet is as fresh and exciting today as when it first came out in the 1970s when I was a teenager. I never tire of listening to their music.
Brilliant guitarwork by Andy Scott, starting with the cool jazzy chords at 2:30, culminating in an awesome solo at 3:00... Very good rhythm section too, with Priest & Tucker. This band had so much potential. Never saw this footage before, fantastic stuff.

What a childhood i was lucky to have. A youngster when glam rock was at its peak in the UK, fantastic times and memories. Endless good music, power cuts ( reading first issue UK marvel comics by candlelight) , Dad out at night syphoning petrol because of the fuel shortage then the next night his petrol getting nicked LOL, flares, long hair, swearing, fighting, being scruffy in Brixton. Couldn't have had it any better or more fun and Sweet always takes me back to those times along with Wizzard, Bowie, Mud. Never to be seen again
I am damn envious - I was only six in 74 and only heard bigger brothers of friends how cool they were live. I was completely absorbed by Sweet already.
I've been listening to this album (Desolation Boulevard) since I was around three or four years old. My father had the cassette tape which I must have flipped at least four times a day. I'm thirty-two and it's still one of my favorites till this day... so underrated and almost forgotten. For me this timeless classic with never get old... just love it!!! 🥁🎸🎹🎤🎶🎵🎧
Hey! Was I livin' under a bunch of rocks during the late 70's? Why did me and my friends did not listen to Sweet's music? They where great musicians and singers. How stupid where we?
Parents had this and BTO on 8-tracks in their Mazda RX2 (shoulda just changed the damn apex seals!). These days I just stay home when "Guns N Roses" tours
I love all records with the classic line up. But the years 73 to 75 were my favorites. Real heavy songs they wrote, leaving glam behind, less keyboards and fantastic production.
+Aussie Outlaw hard to tell if they recorded this in rehearsals and mimed over it for the show, or they were miming over some other recording. It's ironic, but the M.U. rules were that bands weren't allowed to play live on shows like this...something to do with session musicians getting paid. That's why all TOTP shows were mimed as well. So no, this may not have been their true voices but they were all fantastic singers and musicians. Shame there is so little actual footage of them live, they were a great band.
I was a teenager in he 70's and Sweet was one of my favorite bands. At the six minute mark in the song , I see where that lead inspired another classic guitarist.
Heavy, jazzy, cool, amazing. Sweet had it all. I love all their styles from this to the early bubblegum. I’d never get tired of “Poppa Joe” just like I’d never get tired of this (even if they didn’t play on those early hits, those amazing voices and attitude were 100% there). What a great fucking sound.
True musicianship. From Andy Scotts falsetto voice and ripping guitar, to Brian Connollys familiar (Sweet) voice.. That was an awesome video of one of my favorite bands. Ohh, and I wish I had that Gibson 335 he was playing
Such a unique & awesome band. I wish I would have gotten the chance to see them live, but I was too young at that time & wasn’t allowed to go to concerts then. Why it’s so great to have these videos to watch.
Who said Brian couldn't sing? Even after being attacked in 1974 and having his throat kicked several times which I understand took him a long while to recover. He did not deserve to have that act of violence done to him. I've read it was because he spoke to a lady or flirted. I feel confident millions of ladies flirted with Brian that doesn't make it ok to try to kill him.Brian is a survivor. I like the guitars and drums. Everybody sounds good.
@Cecilia Manson Díaz Meanwhile there`s also doubt that the attack occurred in the first place - Rumors have it that Steve Priest revealed it was all made up in order to disguise the fact that Brian was heavily drunk and fell down the stairs at a specific event, that the band or he did`nt want to get revealed.
I think this isn't 100% live. Notice a rhythm guitar sound when the lead was played, and no camera close-up during the improvisation! Also, there's a miss with the drummer's hands.
A scene and setting that will never be seen again. Looks like they actually enjoyed this one. A wonderful part of the past. Thanks for the post. AWESOME!
Good to see that they appear to be playing live here, despite that being unusual in TV shows. The drums sound fine, although there only seems to be one mic for them.
I read an interview with Steve I think it was where he said for some of these shows they would go in and re-record the track specifically for the show. This is definitely different from the Desolation Boulevard take, and also different from the Musikladen live video. I like Andy’s solo more on this one (where it goes into the distortion) than the Musikladen take. Doesn’t matter to me if all of it was played live or not. They made the music either way. I think this performance probably combines live and pre-recorded bits. Either way, this is my fave version of this song.

Love you Steve!! I love you in this video. Best bass player ever!!!!!!
WOW THEY NAILED THIS !!!!EXCELLENT LIVE BAND!!!
They were my 1st concert, the music of my youth. Never boring, no filler crap on their records. Sure miss that time..
GREATLY and PERFECTLY!!!
nothing is better than live rock n roll played this good. love the sweet.
I think this isn't 100% live. Notice a rhythm guitar sound when the lead was played, and no camera close-up during the improvisation! Also, there's a miss with the drummer's hands.
Funny I made this comment about another clip.
Something wrong with youtube
Its more live than their other television appearances
What a great tune. Perfect live performance!
Yep!!! 👍👍👍
Holy smokes ! That was freaking awesome.
Esto es perfecto ❣️
Solid solo by Andy!
We need this band to be remade into 2021! Concerts would sell out! What an incredible sound!
Great! The Sweet's greatest of greats! loved them, love' em....
This band had it all! Each member was super talent, and showman, and together it was Sweet
this is an amazing group
Been a fan since I first heard them when I lived in Denmark back in 74.
Great drummer. Uskumatult hea trummar, ülbus lisaks. Absolut!
I can't believe this obviously great band isn't more well known..
A thousand times better than 'Motley Crue' and 'Poison.'
Neither of those bands should even be mentioned in any comparison to The MIGHTY SWEET!
+Lord Maynard love both the bands you mention but agree, Sweet was amazing and i had the pleasure to see them live.
+Leps262 you got that one right
Thank you!
The Crue destroys this band. I like Sweet. They were good and had their moment, but let's not lose perspective. This is teeny bopper, glam rock.
¡Excelente música para bailar ! ¡Hermosos y talentosos chicos !
¡Los Amo a los 4. Especialmente a Brian y Steve. ! ¡ Brian tiene mi corazón ! 😍🥰😘
Wow these dudes are way way way underrated and heavy AF!!!✌️💛🤘
Guitarist totally UNDERRATED!😲
I love Sweet!Fantastic!
This was one of my favorite songs on the album. I'm thrilled to be able to see it performed. I was 14 when it came out.
I remember this day an rite in the front ;-) xxx
