      I really have to thank you, because of this video I have finally managed to rediscover Dark Savior from when I played it as a kid I have been trying to find this game for the last 20 years and I only had my vague memories of it, thank you for using footage of the game

    My Saturn collection of games, which had Panzer Dragoon Saga, Shining Force 3, Magic Knight Rayearth and many others. My brothers friend that had no idea the value, stole it and sold them all for like $40. I still have all my hardware, but no games and cannot afford to replace them. It makes me angry that retro gaming has driven the prices up so insanely high that there's no way i'll ever be able to play these games again. I want them back because I like to play them. I don't care about the value, i love the games.

      Well there are people that sell "repro" Saturn games on ebay, etsy, Ali ex, very cheap. you'll also need a Pseudo Saturn kai cartridge but definitely worth it if you want to play the expensive titles without the price tag attached to them.

      £399 at Dixons in 1995, I had one when it released, brilliant machine, shame the PS1 took over the gaming space, then the Dreamcast flopped, but it was Sega's fault at the end of the day, people had enough of all the devices they spewed out like the 32X, Mega CD etc and then moving onto the next thing within 1 to 2 years with little to no support. It was a crazy time in the early 90's, so many consoles flopped.
      I hope Microsoft go for Sega next as they have some brilliant IP's which could make a comeback like Golden Axe, ESWAT the list is endless.
      In fact if it wasn't for Sega's demise, and Microsoft providing Windows CE for the Dreamcast, and Xbox hardware for Sega's arcade machines, we may never have had the Xbox we have now today.

    I miss my young days with a sega saturn, probably the most fun i ever had with a games console, i enjoyed my dreamcast equally too, and my megadrive 32X CD before it. I moved onto PS2 after that and never quite found my groove with games again, though I did find a renewed enjoyment with the PS3 and PS4. Now my son had taken over the mantal and taken the flame over with the PS4 Pro and PS5. So i just watch him now!

    Lol. I literally bought a copy of Christmas Nights just a few weekends ago. I just started my Saturn collection last fall. A good friend of mine sold me his Japanese Saturn and a few games for a song, and found the 4MB RAM cart a short while later. Been having a blast with it, always wanted a Japanese Saturn for the fighters and shm'ups. I did fork out a hefty bit for Radiant Silvergun, but otherwise I've been able to get decent deals for Japanese titles, both online and even at local resale shops because they know that import titles take forever to sell.

      I bought the Japanese versions of Nights and Christmas Nights a few years ago for $10 each, CIB. The US ones were just too expensive and it was my fault for putting it off too many times.

    My GCSE science teacher actually gave me his Saturn in June this year for free. Came with the box, manual, card advertising all the accessories, 3 demo discs and a sadly non working copy of Sega Rally. I did get Alien Trilogy off of eBay at the end of the month, however.

    • @freebobafett
      @freebobafett ปีที่แล้ว

      You gotta get a copy of Sega Rally that works. It's fairly inexpensive, and I got it with my Saturn when I bought it, the day it was released. We played all night, and as the sun rose, we realized we had been playing all night and gave it a rest. When we did, my eyes started shooting out water from my tear ducts. It seems I had blinked so little that night that my eyes were rebelling in order to get the moisture they required to continue functioning.
      It's a great game.

    Sega saturn is one of the last systems I was interested in. I'm a 2d man all the way so I liked how the saturn was basically a beefed up super scalar.
    Meant to rent a ps1 from blockbuster for a party, but all they had were Saturns left and I preferred the brighter palette and wonkiness of Nights into Dreams and Panzer Dragoon to the drab palette of Sony's offering

Great to see there are still die hard physical media gamers out there. ✊

    • @ryanpc2
      @ryanpc2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@melisahodzic5806 in a way. It’s made by a company named Terra Onion. It’s an ODE (optical disc emulator) and you open up your system and put it in the place of the CD drive. You can then load games on an SD card and play them from there. It’s a good way to just play the games without having to give up thousands of dollars for games that are eventually going to rot anyways.

    Got 20 of those games you showed in this video.
    Good video. Just one thing, the Mega Drive Sonic games in Sonic Jam were not emulated,
    Unlike later compilations, Sonic Jam does not emulate Mega Drive hardware - the games have been re-written for the Saturn.

    I love my Saturn, I’ve had it for 7 years now and it’s still running fine. I recall paying $250 for it and it came with 8 games. So not a bad score. However buying more software for it was a bit pricey indeed. Thankfully I was able to score some Japanese titles for cheap at a retro games market. But yeah overall it’s not something I’ve been investing in as of late.

    I want to get into the Sega Saturn, quite badly actually, but it's seemingly impossible. Every game I want would set me back $100 to get or more, since I live in Canada it's not only more expensive because I'm looking for North American copies, but also more expensive since I'm usually converting USD to CAD. Honestly I debate if it's worth wasting any time or money on a Saturn, the Dreamcast is manageable but the Saturn is too expensive in my opinion.

      I spent $40 or $50 on a cartridge from ebay that has a whopping 8MB save file storage ability and lets me play burned games. I started scrolling through my burned discs one day to see which ones I could afford and the vast majority of them were a staggering "don't even think about it" when looking them up on ebay. Even a used copy of Sonic Jam, which I proudly own as the first Sega game on a Sega console I ever bought with my own money*, is like $300 or $400 on ebay.
      *ironically purchased for $15 with a $30 bid on eBay, some time back in Fall 2005 by 15 year old me.

    I am a member of the Panzer Dragoon Saga club. I had to stop collecting a while ago because the prices are getting absurd and I have to prioritise other things even though there are a good number of games I would still like to own. Unlike other platforms, there is unlikely ever going to be a mini console to cool down the market. It is said in the financial sector that there are a number of investments that will pay off in a financial downturn - gold, silver and Sega Saturn games.

    I got every SEGA system when new as they released (I was a spoiled shit) except for the Dreamcast. I was an adult by then and waited for a sale. • @Kadamose
    @Kadamose ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I loved the Saturn and I loved Sega. It is a bloody shame that their only competitor was themselves... Regardless of the retarded business suits at Sega, they had the best programmers and the best talent, and if they didn't make the insane mistakes that they did back then, they would not only still exist, but they would also be number one. Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, and all the third parties, can't hold a candle to Sega's development department, and they were probably overjoyed when Sega ended its own existence by imploding in on itself because Sega was setting the bar too high for them to compete. The golden age of gaming ended when Sega met its demise.
    Whoever at Sega gave the green light for the development of Panzer Dragoon Saga needs a massive thank you and a pay raise in their social security because it is, by far, the best game ever created for any console, and I don't say that lightly. It is a work of art. Almost 30 years later, and there still is no game that even comes close to it. PDS is a testament to what Sega was really all about, and gives us all a glimpse of what the future of Sega could have been if they would have got out of their own way. Sega did what Nintendidn't.

    Luckily we live in the age of the Satiator chip and the Saroo cartridge, i remember seeing Saga on sale once years ago for the modern equivalent of 100 Euros (84 GBP / 109 USD) and didn't buy it, i still kick myself for that 😂😂 this was a LONG time ago however, maybe early PS2 era.
    The Saturn overall for me is a double-edged sword, i wanna love it but i just could never stand SEGA's whole doubling-down on producing games that tried to reproduce the Arcade experience in the home, by the PS1 it became apparent that this was not the way forward for home gaming and Saturn was the first one where SEGA really seemed way behind the times, and (unpopular opinion) i think this stretched into the Dreamcast era.
    I remember thinking a major flaw with the Dreamcast is that the games all felt like Arcade games, and after the PS1 and Metal Gear i didn't want Arcade games anymore, i was so over that whole experience. People don't often talk about the seismic shift FF7 and Metal Gear represented for gaming at the time, the idea that you could have these long movie-esque narrative driven adventures in games wasn't really a common thing beforehand, sure you'd had Final Fantasy on the SNES before, but it was never quite as cinematic.
    SEGA did try with Panzer Dragoon Saga and Shenmue on the Dreamcast, and they did well tbh, those are both good games, but it wasn't enough, one or two big cinematic titles vs dozens on the competition is always a problem

    If I am not mistaken you can get the full arcade experience of playing the Marvel & X-Men vs. Street Fighter games and use two characters if you used the expanded memory.

    This was a real treat to watch! It's a shame that so many of these games are Saturn exclusives, because there really are some gems in there. I have lots of fond memories playing Die Hard Arcade, the Panzer Dragoon games, NiGHTS, and Shining Force III. Thanks for sharing and I'll look forward to the next one.

    Lol! If the Saturn of Daytona USA was true, Sega would have EASILY won the 32-bit console war. Loved but yet feel sad (because if only we did had it that way) about the joke at the end. :) Dead or Alive would have been perfect on this list. The PS1 version was nothing compared to the Sega Saturn version that was BETTER than the arcade in regards to gameplay.
