Kenny Kirkland is on fire (RIP)! GREAT GREAT SOLO!! Substitutions out of this world Kenny, upper structure and and chromatic passages whilst keeping true to the blues as well! He plays in and out with such a taste, I fell in love with this record just for the musicians playing in it! The whole band is on fire! Great Omar, Brandford and Darryl!! Spaccano!! Che Tiro pazzesco!!
I saw Sting and his band playing this live in 1987 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. It was the "Nothing Like the Sun" tour, but most songs played were from "Bring On the Night" (and, by extension, from "The Dream of the Blue Turtles"). 26 years later, what I remember best from that show is Kenny Kirkland playing. He stole the show more than once with his playing and his charisma. Incredible how a guy sitting by the piano on a corner of the stage could dominate a show that in name was not even his, and playing with such outstanding other musicians.
fikusrezz I got to see this great band in 1985 in Costa Mesa California with my girlfriend, It was Stings debut with these great jazz musicians. Dream of the Blue Turtles tour.Omar Hakim - drums, Branford Marsallis - sax, clarinet, Darryl Jones - Bass ,backing vocals - Janice Pendarvis, Dolette Mcdonald, and of course Kenny Kirkland - piano. 30 year anniversary of that album and tour. Never gets old!
I bet he stole the show! I mean Sting is a wonderful songwriter but I'm not sure how good of an idea it was to team up with such a band... they were among the top musicians in the World (and they still are those who are still alive today)...
Janice Pendarvis y Dolette McDonald hacen un excelente trabajo de vocalizacion ademas de todo lo bueno de la instrumentación en este tema al igual que en " The Dream Of The Blue Tutles" . En Una Palabra "Tremendas " !!!
A genius like Kenny Kirkland only comes along once in a generation.
Pure inspiration from a pure soul!
Doctone LIVES!
RIP Kenny Kirkland...You will be missed
One of my favourite albums!
The sheer breathtaking audacity of Omar Hakim 'duelling' with Kenny Kirkland - awesome.
