Amorphis. Anathema, Opeth, Katatonia all had a similar start and morphed into a more prog , melodic metal territory and unique soundscape. All of these bands are awesome!

The pride of Finland. It's Elegy for me - quirky, catchy and superb vocals.

A band that really doesn't get love they deserve so thank you for doing this. So strong, so fluid, so creative; definitely in my Top 10 all-time.
I'm just going to give my Top 5 albums 'cause these are the ones I go to the most.
    1. Tales from a 1000 Lakes
    2. Eclipse
    3. Elegy
    4. Silent Waters
    5. Tuonela

I rarely meet anyone who knows anything at all about Amorphis, so it really is a treat for me to hear such detailed and enthusiastic discussion about this band. I only have the Tomi Joutsen era releases from Amorphis so I still have a way to go, but I love all the albums I've heard so much that I don't think I could ever rank them. They are the most consistently GREAT band of all time. There are just NO misses.

YES! Amorphis never released a bad album. Extremely consistent discography and undrrrated band. Also very happy that you guys mentioned 'Sign' from Silent Waters. Great track

Great to see Nick Franco on the show, you can tell he's a big fan of these guys. For me, they are one of those bands whose latter day catalogue is as strong as their classic era. My Top 5:
1- Tuonela (Dark Metal masterpiece🤘 Perfect album for those dark autumn nights)
2- The Beginning Of Times (Killer album from start to finish)
    3- Under The Red Cloud
    4- Queen Of Time
    5- Skyforger
HM:Am Universum(This is Amorphis delving into Alternative Rock territory. Die-Hard fans may not like it, but I think it's a solid album.

I really dig Am Universum, though some songs feel a bit cut short. Many are ending with a fade out, when you expect some extended psychedelic jamming. Still an incredible album!

Under the Red Cloud is the one that won me over and made me listen seriously to the rest of the catalog. Then I was like "Why did it take me so long to get on board?" Went to see them while supporting Queen of Time and they were amazing live.

Thank you thank you thank you thank you. I've only heard nine of the albums (minus the debut and the middle period), and only heard those each once. Love what I've heard, looking forward to appreciating them more and more. What a great band, and I discovered them based on Pete's selection of Eclipse as the best of its year when he was doing that series. Even happier that you two are doing Enslaved next!

I love Amorphis,i discovered the band just before the release of Hallo album when i saw the video song amongst stars with Anekke von Giersbergen which i adore!!!
My second song was the bonus track of queen of time Brother and Sister 💗 which i love deeply and the Bee and after the first single of Hallo and the rest is history.
I want to buy all the albums and they have many so far(i bought the last three)i have listened all the albums at least one time each.
I am old enough to wonder how i missed this band for so many years?
Never too late of course for great music 🎶.
Thank you both of you,i have learn so much more for the band and the albums.
I hope soon to have all Amorphis's albums and do my own list next.

Elegy , and Tales From a Thousand Lakes are both incredible albums . I especially like the traditional Finnish folk lyrics . All the other albums are equal to me , but definitely I also would rank Karelian ? Isthmus , and Tuonella ? A close second to the ones I mentioned previously. Though I own both those albums on CD I am unsure of the spelling of their titles , I own quite a collection of CDs and am too lazy to dig them out . I know that a lot of people love to correct everyone's minor errors so have fun picking apart my comment

It's crazy how a band that has been around for so long can have such great albums this far into their career like Amorphis has done. "Queen of Time" was my favorite album from 2018. I remember when it came out I was thinking there was no way they could top Under the Red Cloud, and then i put that album on and thought holy shit they really did top Under the Red Cloud this is amazing. As far as a favorite, I would have to agree with Pete. "Eclipse" has to be my favorite. It has a little bit of all eras of Amorphis in it, so good!!!

I was pretty into the first two albums, but over time they became a band that I really disliked. I quit following them after Silent Waters, which sounded like a Sarah McLachlin album.
Of course, I'll still watch (and enjoy) your ranking of their catalog!
    Thanks, guys!
Edit (next day): I don't mean to be a jerk about them, and I don't mean to offend anyone. I was going to delete this comment, but it made my friend laugh and he is a huge fan of them, so... blame him. :)

    11. Circle
    12.The Beginning Of Times
    13. Far From The Sun
Strange how you think something is and it twists and turns into liking a band you are just getting into. Had gotten I think before I saw them with Tounela that I gotten into. had gotten into in having the cd .Amorphis saw them in concert and during which they wouldn't do things from the album they announced. They would do from their earlier albums pure death rock sounding show. Before seeing them as an opening band that night picked up on The Karelian Isthmus. After that the great show of 4 bands in the night.
Listened to the cd i bought at the show. After a few listens figuring that was as to what they were all about before Tounela. Do like the album that I got at the show, with its heaviness and pure sheer power gloom, cause I seen what the first album and Tales what the sound was for that night. So it was so good but yet had a soft spot for Tounela.
Friend whom went to show with told me Tales From The Thousand Lakes was better then the first. I would get Tales.. album later and liked it as the mark now as a notable point in how that album changed even more love of the band. So why it is number 1 with me. Even as their albums would fall into the prog heavy doom and sounds after Tounela I always gave every one of the albums listens when they came out. So the list follows of the CDs as I hear them today. as go to albums when I want to hear an Amorphis album. Simply the first 7. Doesn't mean I don't dislike the latter ones at all. They will be heard some more when I feel like any to hey just revisit them to see if what else can grab you might like about them someday. To even elevate in ranking or stay where they are. Cheers.🎶👍

I don't really listen to Amorphis, but their album Tales from the Thousand Lakes inspired so many Finnish people, which eventually lead to the creation of folk metal. Folk metal is my favourite genre of music and many of it's bands my favourite bands, such as Ensiferum, Moonsorrow, Finntroll and Korpiklaani, all of which are Finnish bands inspired by that album.

This is one of those bands I used to confuse with In Flames, they both have a very very similar vibe at least fro me, they both came from Death metal and got softer and more melodic. Both have spectacular albums. I listen to mostly everything Amorphis put out, the album that got me into them was AM Universum and My Kantele. I also Love Skyforger so much, Eclipse, Silent Waters and probably some more, but to be honest, I tend to confuse some of their stuff,... What do you guys think about In Flames?

Amorphis is a band I own almost all their stuff, and would agree with Pete that there are sort of 3 distinct periods of their material. Honestly, have a hard time telling a lot of the Tomi material apart. Skyforger, Eclipse, and Silent Waters are the three other than Tales that really standout for me. Speaking of Anathema how about a ranking Pete ??

When you think about it, both Opeth and Amorphis had similar style changes as Genesis. Yes, Genesis wasn’t a metal band. But they did start off as a somewhat-jolting prog band that was a bit “too much” for some listeners in the early 70’s. But as time went on they became more polished and melodic.

Just found this video, and reading the comments I'm surprised by everyone's love for Eclipse, I like the album ( I love all the albums, Amorphis can do no wrong), but it's my least favourite album among the Tomi ones! I must be strange!
I'm not going to attempt ranking all the albums, but I'll say that my favourite albums are 1) Under The Red Cloud 2) Queen of Time 3) Skyforger 4) Halo 5) Elegy

    1) Tales From the Thousand Lakes-genre classic
    2) Elegy
    3) Tuonela
As a bonus, the Black Winter Day EP

Fist heard them on Tales From The Thousand Lakes which unfortunately will come in number 6 because I love the new direction the band took with Tomi. 1. Under The Red Cloud (mainly because of the title track) 2. Queen Of Time 3. Eclipse 4. Skyforger and 5. Circle. All albums excellent but that's my personal taste

If ever there was a band whose music was meant for vinyl? It’s AMORPHIS. I listen to ALL kinds of metal, and rock. No band, sounds as brilliant on vinyl, as AMORPHIS. And while I love their entire discography, these are my top 5/6:
    Tales From the Thousand Lakes
    Queen Of Time

    Silent Waters
    Skyforger

The problem with Pasi era Amorphis is that Pasi was a terrible clean vocalist which ruined the experience for me. Tomi was a huge upgrade hence their success to this day.

The death metal era, gems, the next albums as well, great and after
Pasi Koskinen left (Far from the Sun, last acceptable album for me), Amorphis became complete garbage....they lost all the class, mystique, and creativity....became cheesy, typical and corny. Overproduced albums, new singer's voice very stale and souless.
Can´t say the same about Anathema, Opeth or Katatonia--all great from the beginning to current times.
