I RELATE SO MUCH TO THIS. I rescued a (approximately) one and one half year old female Lab/ Staffy Ginger Rogers who had spent her entire life in a crate in a kennel in a rescue center with over 200+ other dogs down south. When got her she had ZERO experiences; never been in a car, never walked on the grass, gone up stairs, walked on a leash, did not know her name. I spent the first 6 months teaching her basic commands and then hired a professional dog trainer to teach me better skills to help her be less reactive. She was my first rescue and I learned right along side of her. She has done amazing these psst two years, Its been very challenging but also rewarding. There were many day when I thought "I can't do this at age 72." But I made a commitment to her and I needed to keep that promise. She is super smart and I work on her training everyday and just this week she learned how to "Kiss Kiss" me, a lick to my face or ear. MORE PROGRESS!
You two seem like great pet parents…the way you showed him patience and genuine kindness brought him around to the sweetest and most outgoing puppy I’ve ever seen! Great work!
WOW, what a transformation. Its so amazing to watch a scared or abused animal come out of their shell with love that is shown to them and trust. So beautiful. Great story.
This baby is sooo darling. I currently have a rescue from a very abusive situation, just a side eye look in her direction sent her into a screaming fit, shaking like a leaf, it was heartbreaking. I spent a lot of time on the floor at her level but at a distance and never looking at her while her eyes were constantly on me. One day once I was able to get ahold of her I had a deep felt talk with her, she seemed to understand and slowly got to where she'd sit next to me. Once that happened I began to carry her in a pouch - a lot so she could feel me next to her. A year later she thinks she's the boss of me and thinks she owns the house lol. She still once has something that will trigger a memory of her past life but once I carry her for a bit she comes out of it. Never give up on a dog or cat (or any animal) who was once so miserably scared and lost all faith in humans. Be the one to show them we aren't all monsters and we won't abandon them.
I have had 5 dogs over the years, all rescues, all superb dogs, and all became part of the family. We had a GSD that was so frightened when we got her that she spent the first two days hiding in the cellar. Later when our two children arrived, she was as good as having a nanny, I can not remember the kids ever crying much, if they hurt themselves, she would gently pick them up by the scruff, give them a quick slurp and everything would be all right again.

that is how our dog was when we adopted him in Nov. 2020. he was scared of everything around him even us. it took him a couple of weeks to get comfortable around us. now Benny is a super loving boy!!
I love happy stories about rescue dogs. I've been working with dog rescue for 25 years. I could not even guessed the number of dogs that I have picked up and know 25 years and help find them a new home. I always talk to all of that and explained that I wasn't there for the first part of their life now I will be there for the rest of their lives and from this point on I can guarantee you will have a wonderful life. I wish you and your babies a wonderful Life. Just remember how much you love ice cream your baby does also. I buy the doggy ice cream from the grocery store. Once-a-week everybody gets one.

so nice to see how he warmed up to you , thanks for giving him a chance ! two years ago we adopted a straight dog from a shelter, she was in foster care with friends of us and she was so scared of everything , except her fostermom and ... our border collie . they goofed around in the garden like they were soulsisters. did there zoomies till they were out of breath ... we did not have plans to adopt a second dog so we went for walks and had her over for play dates :) we finally made the decision to adopt here and on the 6th of december 2021 she was ours. we had to be so patient with her . she followed the border collie like her live depended on it , well maybe thats what it was... now they are inseparable, and we didn't have to teach her a thing , she just copied what the colli did :) now she is beautiful doggy who loved to cuddle play run and goof around :)
