as someone who did their own lace frontal installs for over 2 years (while maintaining healthy edges) here are my thoughts. the edges damage is caused by people putting wig glue on their hairline when it’s not supposed to touch their hair AT ALL. that and the fact that ppl rip their wigs off instead of using a glue dissolving solvent. the skin damage isn’t caused by the glue like most people think unless it’s counterfeit. beauty supply stores sell fake glue a lot and if ur getting ur wig done by a stylist u don’t know where they got their glue from so it could be counterfeit (that’s not on the glue brands) the main cause of skin damage is the fact that people “prep” their skin by using RUBBING ALCOHOL and also use rubbing alcohol when removing their wigs. also the got2b & other hairsprays contain rubbing alcohol and aren’t safe for skin (it even says that on the can). i started wearing wigs after loosing my entire hairline from back to back box braids and then became addicted to them and kept wearing them even after my edges grew back. i would literally shave my head so the wigs could lay flatter (LOL). i don’t wear them much anymore except for styles like locs and braided wigs (cuz i’d rather that than the tension & weight from braids tbh.) i plan on getting some afro/kinky & yaki texture wigs in the future tho but rn i just wear my hair 90% of the time. wigs can definitely be done in a healthy way but unfortunately most ppl are learning damaging wig practices from tiktok and youtube. another big problem i’ve noticed when it comes to wigs is SEVERE NEGLECT. women on tiktok will literally show that they left their cornrows in for several months to a year without even washing them ONCE. just switching out the wigs. idg how u can bleach, pluck, cut lace, tint lace, wash, condition, install and style wig after wig after wig but you can’t shampoo your cornrows 😵💫 but yeah those are my thoughts. glad we’re having this conversation it’s definitely an important one. also mariam musa ended up getting a hair transplant cuz she had really bad tranction alopecia & discoloration from the wigs. her hair is in MUCH better condition now so that’s great! i think she just chooses to wear the frontals cuz she prefers them (been there so i understand 😭)
Ladies. Do not sleep in a wig. Your wig is supposed to come off to air out. Your scalp is sensitive. You’re beautiful with or without a wig. Wear a bonnet at night, use oil or grease. Use headbands, try whole wigs with bangs, half wigs. Rest your worries, you got this!
For real! At the end of the day if you look Afrocentric you still look Afrocentric. No one is buying the straight hair so just give yourself permission to show all of yourself and if your job hates you for it, they never valued you to begin with.
I was caught up in this cycle for like a decade! NEVER wore my natural hair out since like middle school. A year and a half ago I decided to loc my hair. 3 months ago I started wearing my hair full time. I’ve never felt more free and gorgeous in my life. Never going back and I suggest everybody consider what they’re really trying to sell you🚮
Please stop wearing wigs, our hair & scalp needs sun; air & water 💦 on a daily basis. Wigs are NOT an effective “protective style” if our hair is not allowed to air out on a regular basis. We are wearing silky hair because we are not comfortable taking care of our hair and wearing our natural hair to work; school; etc.
Why do they always glue it so farward covering half the forehead? Are they ashamed of their forehead? Cz the problem is they It's so jaring when they take the wig off
I’ve never used glue. I use glue less wigs. 4x4 or 5x5. I say no to frontals. Because it has to be glued down or they use holding spray. When I see the videos of these women putting on frontal wigs, I shake my head. I can never do that daily or at all.
Girl braids tug at the roots. I only keep braids in for 3 days. I can literally feel the tension. I do my own braids and i can reuse the hair when i want to next time
During my "saddie" phase, I shaved off all my hair and started wearing lace fronts daily. Before that, I'd only wear them occasionally. I never used glue. I sometimes used the got2b hair spray but I didn't have time for that daily so I used the wig combs, an elastic band, and bobby pins. (When I was completely bald, I of course didn't use combs or pins though lol) It was fine except wigs are expensive especially because my currency compared to the gbp and usd is very weak and I'd be buying the wigs from overseas. So as the wig would get older, I'd have to cut more lace off (cause it would start balding) making it tighter. As it got tighter, the combs and bobby pins would start scalping me, and eventually I lost a bit of my edges where I used the bobby pins and damaged the follicles where I used the wig combs. There's no bald spot but the hair is discolored, has a weird surface texture, doesn't behave like the rest, and it's anagen phase is like a few months smdh. It could be worse, and you can't really tell that anything's wrong but I can tell and it bothers me and I regret it.

Love the Nigerian accent coming out. Whenever I say "what in the delulu" (which is multiple times a day at this point😅) I say it with a Nigerian accent. Great vid. Points were made. I also think all this slicking down baby hairs is taking out people's baby hair and edges. Not the ragtime music at the end😂
I know someone who slicked her edges for a whole month straight, lost them and stopped. The next month they came right back -- but she only did it that one time. Turning it into a lifestyle choice and then asking where your edges are is just playing with fire at this point 😭
I LOVE your content 🤎 I did a video about hair dysmorphia on my channel too where I addressed these lace fronts are literally snatching out your edges and when you take them off you literally don’t recognize yourself in the mirror 🤎🤎🤎
Thank you for this kind and empathetic video. I have felt the same way about seeing women with these glued lace front wigs. But I love your delivery. Your kindness and understanding. I want the same thing for many of our sisters, who are trapped in a vicious cycle of trauma, shame, and self hate. And want to stop wearing their wigs but due to so much damage they can’t. We really got to start loving people more.
Thank you God for my nappy natural hair! Where I lack in approval from other people about my hair type, I prosper in healthy, strong, beautiful hair that doesn’t fall out due to mistreatment. Thank, you God for not making me to be like others who try to mask their individuality with cookie cutter trends. 😂 Amen! 🙏🏾
Mariam Musa got a hair transplant recently. I’m glad that she could get it as most people can’t afford to remedy the hair loss. It’s sad that we hold on to things that are clearly damaging our hair/skin. It’s very accurate to describe it as a dependency.
I had to stop wearing wigs because my edges and hair line were constantly getting too much friction. I never glued it down, but I did slay my baby hairs and the G2B wand glue in the small tube gave me discoloration. I stopped, I grew out my hair to bra strap length, and use textured extensions and let my hair breathe.
Your suppose to use glue temporary and use a wig cap to cover the edges entirely These gurls don’t care for no rules they will take a gob of industrial glue and use up all the got to be to keep the wig on for eons !!!
I actually only realised within the past year or so that people genuinely GLUE wigs down. Nobody close to me does it (or maybe they did/do and I just assumed it was a normal wig?) so it was a slow realisation process from being online more 😅
That was one of the reasons why I started my loc journey. I started loosing my hair like my sideburns the got to be glue. It was ripping my hair out. I has to keep using hair growth oil and treatments. I do have glueless wigs tho if I ever want to slap one on but I’m happy with my locs
My hair is already thin in back an fell out grew back an thin so i cut it. My front is thin too. I could wear wigs but i have no lace. Im glad i sav this i wanted to get it but im rethinking because even a kinky lace is still lace.
Wanted to be a Baddie. Spent $200 on a Quality Wig…So much had to be done to make my Thick, long natural hair Flat. Glued the Wig on; It looked Good but Lord the discomfort. Removed the wig that very night to discover I accidentally put glue on the right side of my Hair Line….IT TOOK 4 months for my Hair to Grow back in. I haven’t touched a Wig since😂
wigs always hurt my head and looked weird. i’m glad i never got into them. even when i do my own braids i do it a certain way so i won’t have a lot of tension on my scalp

When I did my big chop in 2020, I was a bit insecure about having short hair, because before that I grew long relaxed hair. So I wore sew ins and weave sometimes.
