YES I never had the opportunity to learn Music let alone music theory so this transcription is helpful Thanks from a WI Home Fry Really Glad you are discovering HF Our Guys are Amazing people and Talents ask any Home Fry we'll be happy to give information on our Boys ! we are all like Proud parents and we travel in packs watch your numbers *chuckle you'll know when the Fries are in the house *wink
Of course "the transcript" is useful, always is! As "we" : ) progress, there's a lot to realize and to learn how crazy things can be!!! Now this is the 1st I've seen this in recommendations and we're 2wks old... might try listing Home Free 1st - Home Free - Reaction & Analysis . Might try that. Not easy doing Country, esp successfully and these guys are the only ones to be able to do it!!! FACT! Be Safe
Sir hairless Your transcriptions are p l would definitely say are more interesting than they are useful.I appreciate what you are teaching me.I hope one day I will understand it aĺl
I'm so happy you decided to do this one first. While the one with Avi is great it splits the bass parts so you don't get to hear completely how amazing Tim is singing.
Yes, welcome to Home Free, all acapella, no instruments at all. Masters of all musical genres. Organized in a college dorm in Minnesota in 2000; they won the 4th season of the Sing Off in 2013. Two are from Minnesota, one from Georgia, one from Texas and one from Alabama (Current members, Chris left the group in 2016 and was replaced by Chance). Their covers are upgrades, their medleys are brilliant, their collaborations with the original artists are inspirational, and their original songs are masterpieces. Within this 5 man vocal band you have 5 tenors, 5 beat boxers, and 2 bass-baritones. All of them can sing lead and they choose depending on whose voice best fits the song. They can do just about anything and they continue to grow and improve, yet they remain so humble. When they have featured guest artist, they support and allow their featured artists to shine. Several of them have their own channels and do some solo work. And just for fun Rob and Austin sing Opera. What else can I say? Their catalogue of work is quite large and continues to grow. You are in for an exciting journey and the Home Fries will be there for you all the way.
Thanks for this comment! Interesting that there's no dedicated alto/countertenor from a perspective of a 4-part arrangement, but from what I've seen in Ring of Fire they easily can go up the mid-upper rangers of a standard countertenor. Looking forward to discovering more of their work 🎶
Welcome to the fabulous world of Home Free, the best a cappella group out there. This song was written by June Carter who later became Johnny Cash's wife. June's sister Anita first recorded it. Love this version of "Ring Of Fire" from the "Sing Off". After this song you knew they had won the competition hands down. You can see how talented they were already back then. Hard to believe they have only gotten better. Tim is a true bass who sounds natural going low. It does not look like it takes any effort. He blew the judges away with his super low note. And Adam's beatboxing is stellar as always. Love how humble the guys are & supportive of each other. No divas in this group.
If VoicePlay and Geoff were more confident and I guess had found themselves like Home Free been for years, they could have been serious contenders. Duel of the basses would have made a tighter competition
they often perform this as an encore for their shows. I've seen cameras shake, speakers blow and ceiling tiles vibrate off. Tim hits the lowest notes in acapella, Avi's are the smoothest and Geoff C's subharmonics are out of this world. Voiceplay is an incredible acapella group as well, they competed against Home Free in season 4. If you want to see a really fun video check out Zombies vs Hillbillies, it's Home Free vs. Voiceplay doing the sing off they didn't get to have on the Sing Off.
I saw them in person last year, and when Tim hit some of his low notes the whole theatre shook - so much so that bits of confetti that were caught in the intricate carvings on the wall drifted down. It was awesome! ❤
Home free does not disappoint. I love seeing the surprise on your face and also when they do something’s so unexpected. They love what they do and it shows and they love bringing you along for the ride
Welcome to the Magical world of Home Free!! Tim Foust is that bass, but the other guys are just as amazing as he is. Their harmonies are second to none. I am subscribing just to watch your reactions to my favorite group! great reaction, by the way.
Oh boy if you like bass you're in for a treat. Home Free, Voiceplay, and more recently The Bass Gang. Have fun on the rabbit trail that is well worth going down!
New sub. Loved your reaction and the graphic rendering of the parts. Man, are you in for a ride with #homefree. If you appreciated the kind of bits you isolated in this one you'll be overwhelmed going forward. This is one of the best groups out there. Check out their "Man of Constant Sorrow and for a very different dynamic vibe, "Do You Hear What I Hear", arranged by the beatboxer, Adam Rupp.
Yes! You would be a fantastic person to review Do You Hear What I Hear! That arrangement is beautiful, but very complex. Something you could really sink your teeth into. 🎶🥰
I do appreciate the transcriptions! I would also love captions on the videos. When I can't read lips to clarify certain words, it makes it difficult to enjoy it all the way. Captions would also help many other viewers as well. Great job, keep 'em coming!
“Ring of Fire" is a song made popular by Johnny Cash when it appeared on his 1963 album Ring of Fire: The Best of Johnny Cash. Written by Cash's eventual second wife, June Carter Cash, and Merle Kilgore, it was originally recorded as "(Love's) Ring of Fire" by June's sister, Anita Carter…” Wikipedia
As much as I love and admire Avi Kaplan, this is my favorite performance of "Ring of Fire". There is an energy in live performance. Home Free's experience with live audiences had tightened up their harmonies, blends and timing. Here they are giving it their all in one take, and it "sounds like a record" -- to quote one the Sing Off judges. I hope you'll listen to their Christmas masterpiece very soon! Arranged by the percussionist Adam Rupp, "Do You Hear What I Hear", is beautiful! I truly enjoyed your comments and approach to analysis. Home Free is the best.
Welcome! It's always a pleasure to watch the faces a new-to-Home Free reactor makes as they realize just how fantastic the music is. And thank you for the transcription, seeing it on the staff makes a lot more sense to me than B2 or whatever. If you are going to delve into the HF rabbit hole, get ready for more 'huh, that was an interesting chord/modulation/resolution/suspension' moments.
Caution: Home Free is highly addictive. 3 of them are song writers so there are lots of originals as well as covers. They also each have channel(s) of their own. Because they've toured extensively for more than a decade, there are also lots of live videos. They've also collaborated with such legends as Kenny Rogers, Alabama, Charlie Daniels & the Oak Ridge Boys just to name a few. Dive in - the water's great!
To me, the most impressive collaborations are Don McLean allowing them to take on American Pie with him and Lee Greenwood doing the same with God Bless the USA.
As an educated musician I think you’re going to flip over HF’s arrangement of the Spiritual , “ Children Go Where I Send Thee “ with Kenny Rogers! After a hundred replays I’m still discovering new things in this marvelous adaptation. ❤
@@TheDivayenta If you haven't watched their videos "Timeless with special dancer", "Beautiful Star of Bethlehem" & "Christmas in Dixie" they will all give you lots to discover!
Welcome to the wonderful rabbit hole of Home Free.. I've listened to their music for years, and I think I appreciate their arrangements more now.. They are all very capable of being 'lead' in different songs, which is great to hear.. You will love 'Life is a Highway' from the Sing Off, compared to the new version they have just released.
I absolutely love watching people try to figure out Home Free for the first time. I just subscribed with hopes for more. They do a huge variety of music and each have a very impressive vocal range. They can make you dance, cry and fall out of your seat laughing. They are the absolute best! Thanks for the Home Free reactions. Looking forward to more
Welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole. They are extremely talented. There are no instruments, everything you hear comes from their mouths. They do different genres. They do a cover of BoyZ II Men End of The Road, it will blow you away. They also do Man of Constant Sorrow that is amazing. They have so many songs and none of them are bad, they also have a lot of originals. Us fans call ourselves Home Fries. I have been following them since 2013. Please keep checking them out. Love your reaction!
Subbed to see where you'll go next on your Home Free exploration. Home Free takes A Capella to a whole new level. You were amazed by this early Home Free rendition. I can't wait to see how you react to their newer performances. Yes, they out do themselves every time they perform. Masters one and all.
Aaaaaaaaaaand another one falls down the Home Free rabbit hole. Don’t worry the Home Fries will save you a seat 😊 You just got yourself a new subscriber. A little info on the group Adam (Rupp)(cofounder): beatboxer extraordinaire. He does vocal percussion, beats, dj scratching, other vocal instrumentation including a mean No-monica (harmonica without a harmonica) and various ambiance noises. He also has a beautiful tenor voice, but I’m certain I’ve heard him sing some baritone too… and honestly, with some of the notes he hits when beatboxing, I wouldn’t be surprised if he can sing bass as well. Oh and I almost forgot to mention he does overtone singing(Skull & Bones). He mostly sings harmony with an occasional solo line or two. Chris (Rupp)(cofounder)(Adam’s brother): Baritone/tenor, covered bass when the regular bass sang lead in live performances. Musical director. Left the group in spring of 2016 to pursue other projects. (Adam) Chance: baritone/bass, but can easily get into tenor range (4 octave range I’ve heard), throat singing, various vocal instrumentation (including a pretty cool electric guitar) and some beatboxing. Rob (Lundquist): Lead tenor (pretty sure he can get into baritone range, though), pretty good beatboxer, rapper, whistler and opera singer. Austin (Brown): High tenor (pretty sure he can get into baritone range, though), some beatboxing, various vocal instrumentation (including the No-monica and electric guitar) Tim (Foust): Legendary bass singer(does a mean walking bass line). Of course that’s not all he does… actually Tim does pretty much whatever he wants vocally. Earth rumbling speaker destroying bass notes. And then sometimes when Austin is singing lead and they need a high harmony above Austin… that’ll be Tim too 🤷🏻♀️ some beatboxing. 5 octave range (working on the sixth… his own words).
Actually, as of 2020, Adam Rupp's range has been amended to B0 (zero) to G#6, which surpasses Tim's Range of A0 to A5 . I used to have the older numbers on my range chart (you can find the link to that at the top of my channel--'where it says, "+ 6 more links"). But lately, I had been hearing Tim say that Adam's range is quite a bit more than his, now. So I did the research, and...yup! It is! 😀
Loved your reaction and I love Home Free. I have been to 8 of their concerts and I am going again in March. When Tim Foust (the bass) hits his deep bass notes in concerts it vibrates your chair and your body. When you watch the video again , listen to the comments after their performance. The judges comments are entertaining and the host announcer comment that the bass made the stage floor vibrate.
Pentatonix has my heart; I've been a fan ever since their first performance on the Sing-Off in 2011 when they hadn't even been singing together for a week. But as I've discovered Home Free and Voiceplay and Voctave, I've made room for all of them, also. But I'm an ignorant amateur in nearly all things musical. I experience their music as a whole, but miss all of the intricacies that make that whole so wonderful. Seeing them through your eyes is such a blessing. I hope you continue down all of these various acapella rabbitholes. We'll all happily follow!
I really like PTX; however, I'm more Home Free just because I lean more country than pop. PTX has 1 of the 3 greatest covers (Hallelujah) ever recorded. Their version is pure perfection. I've listened to that close to 200 times and still get goosebumps.
@DRHHUB I lean country, also, which makes it surprising that PTX is still the top of my list. I think because they were so young at the start and I was already so old, I developed a sort of maternal interest in their efforts and accomplishments, and that maternal-like pride just adds a different level of affection. But I love Home Free and Voctave--and Voiceplay is starting to grow on me.
@@karylmonaco8174 I can't get into Voiceplay. Their vocals are spot on. I just don't enjoy all the theatrical stuff. My favorite of Voiceplay is Daddy Sang Bass where they're just sitting and singing.
@DRHHUB I've only recently done more than start to listen to a song and then switch to something else. And the ones I don't care for or just can't get into still far outweigh the ones I like. But I'm trying to keep an open mind and lately have been learning more about the people in the group and have become more curious. Final decision still pending...
Great reaction to the best vocal band ever! I will be watching for more Home Free and will gladly sub if you decide to go down this wonderful rabbit hole.
You are going to freak out when you hear them do this with Avi. The G1 that Tim hits and sustains at the end of that video is crazy. If you could, try to check out Geoff Catellucci's cover of Man Of Constant Sorrow, he's the bass vocalist for the a capella group Voiceplay, but he dings all of the parts in Man Of Constant Sorrow.
Tim is the bass, Austin is the high tenor, Rob with the beard is their lower tenor, The hat guy is Chris a baritone in the group and The Beatboxer is Adam.
@@SirHairless If you watch some of their later stuff, Chris Rupp (the guy in the hat and 1 of the founder with his brother Adam who is the beatboxer) has left the group to do solo projects and has been replaced by Adam Chance (who we all call Chance just to avoid the confusion with Rupp).
Great Reaction!! Welcome to Home Free rabbit hole. The group started in 2001 by brothers Chris and Adam Rupp They are the only country A Capella ( all vocals no instruments)group but they are honestly do much more than just country music they can sing any genre and they do They won The Sing Off season 4 2013 that's where they became very popular. Fans of Home Free are known as Home Fries and are very loyal to the guys. Adam Rupp: Beatboxer Extraordinaire -Tenor can make any sound imaginable (A whole drum kit, harmonica (his Nomonica we call it )plane flyovers, trains, castanets, bugs ,birds etc).Co founder from Mankato Minnesota. Rob Lundquist :Lead tenor(beard and glasses) very soulful voice and master whistler from Minneapolis,Minnesota Tim Foust :Bass (had long dark hair now short with grey ) 5+ octave range can go so low he blows speakers or sky high from Nederland,Texas Austin.Brown:High Tenor ( Long wavy hair ) voice of an angel from Tifton Georgia. Adam Chance(Aka Chance):Baritone/Bass deep, rich voice(Does the juice harp sound in Man Of Constant Sorrow) has short dark hair short beard from Baldwin County,Alabama.Replaced Chris Rupp ( Adams Brother and co founder in 2016) They have collaborated with many singers and legends Don McLean:American Pie Oak Ridge Boys:Elvira Kenny Rodgers:Children Go Where I Send Thee (Please watch the end message) Billy Gilman:One Voice Alabama:Christmas In Dixie Mark Wills:Don’t Laugh At Me ( important message at the end ) Lee Greenwood & US Airforce Band:God Bless The USA Any many more. They have 3 amazing songwriters in the group Tim,Austin and Chance So they have a very large playlist of covers and original songs End of the Road (Boyz 2 Men cover ) When A Loves A Woman Helplessly Hoping (5 part harmony masterpiece ) Unchained Melody Listen To The Music Can’t Outrun You Brothers In Arms Stargazer Trilogy( All Originals written by Austin) Give Me A Sign ( Chapter 1) Stargazer Lilies( Chapter 2) MR (Chapter 3) Skull And Bones ( original written by Chance for Ubisoft new video game Skull And Bones) Might As Well Be Me ( Original) Playing With Fire ( Original) Remember My Name (Original) Oh Pretty Woman Life Is A Highway Stand By Me Cruise I Want Crazy ( newest release) Mayday(DON’T WATCH TILL YOU ARE VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE GROUP AND THEIR RANGES ) There's not a song that you pick from their 200+ catalog that is bad I haven't found one yet. They are just funny, down to earth, humble nice guys. They are the best A Cappella group there is Sorry for the long read 🍟😊
Thanks so much for this highly informative comment! I've read it all, it's super helpful! 🙏 Sounds like they have some great music out there for me to explore
@@SirHairless What I didn’t mention was their amazing Christmas music they even have a few original Christmas songs I can’t wait for you next reaction 😊
Home Free is my jam! Best Rabbit hole to go down! Appreciate your fantastic reaction! So raw, so real! You are going to be bombarded by subscribers because of these guys! Can’t wait for the next one!!
Enjoyed your reaction....I just subbed so I can go on this Home Free journey with! When they sing this at their shows...that last note goes even lower and your seat rattles and you you feel it in your chest! Let the journey begin!
Wow got your first taste of Home Free. Now will need to check out their friends from The Sing-Off. VoicePlay. They are my top two favorite acapella groups.
The old Spiritual, Children Go Where I Send Thee , as done by HF and Kenny Rogers , is going to blow your musical mind arrangement- wise. There’s so much going on and to such perfection you will faint. ❤
welcome to Home Free reactions. They just amazing but don't have the publicity some other groups have. Their bass, Tim Foust is a 5 octave range guy. I do prefer musch of their newer videos, especia;;y their latest, "I want crazy" a cover of a Hunter hayes classic. Actually June Carter Cash, Johnny's wife wrote this song.
Voice play for sure you need to check out, pentatonix, home free and voice play are the trinity of acappella . One is more mainstream, one more country leaning and one are the theatre kids
new sub: Somglad you found Home Free. Such an amazing group. welcome to the rabbit hole...LOL May i suggest End of the Road, boys 2 men cover. also loved the visuals you show.
Thank you so much! And recommend away!! I receive a lot of recommendations, and I note every one down...it may take months/years to get to every single one eventually but I'll do my best! And thanks for mentioning the transcription of the music, really appreciate it 🙏
I’m thrilled that you did this one first. As a 100% Home Free fan since I found them in early 2016, I do not care for the version with Avi in it. Home Free is the only acapella group that I listen to.
I discovered Home Free before PTX. Actually that's how I was attracted to a capella. All I can say is Man of Constant Sorrow and Ain't Going Down... Adam Rupp is so unique. If you haven't seen either of them I believe you are in for a surprise. And Adam Rupp has a Drum Solo...about 10 minutes long. Kevin Olusola also has one, The Kevin Show Kevin's Fifth. They have different styles but both are spectacular
So good and I love how you break it all down. Ive seen them live and just like PTX, there is no difference from the recorded songs. They are also funny as hell! On to the next! 😊😊
Songs that are in the category of "must listen to"…Mayday, Folsom Prison Blues, Ain't Goin' Down 'til the Sun Comes Up, …it’s hard to narrow down the list. Before you move away from Christmas songs, please react to Home Free's Do You Hear What I Hear?
Tim Foust is a fabulous bass and Home Free is wonderful. But there's another aca group who are also incredible, and they too have a stupendous bass: Geoff Castellucci. The group is VoicePlay and they're called the theater geeks of acapella. They are super creative and talented. You should check them out!
Hi, I’m a Home Free fan (Home Fry) and new subscriber. These boys are by far my favorite acapella group! They can make you laugh, cry or dance and in my opinion have the best harmonies. The beatboxer does sing on occasion and when he does their 5 part harmonies are magic! Some 5 part harmony examples are Helplessly Hoping, How Great Thou Art and Auld Lang Syne. Thank you for a wonderful and informative reaction.
Thanks for watching and subbing 😊 I'm very much looking forward to hearing what else they have to offer. Their (only 4-part) introduction to this has me in awe; I must've watched it over 100 times by now
Home Free is so good. Tim (bass) went lower here than he did with Avi. Tim taught Avi and Geoff (from Voiceplay) how to go lower. He has a 5 octave range. Austin (redhead) is the high tenor. Rob (glasses) is the tenor and can sing opera. Chris (hat) is the baritone and is the founder of Home Free along with his brother Adam (beatboxer). All are super talented men. Chris left Home Free in 2016 and was replaced by Chance (another talented singer). Tim, Austin and Chance write music for the group too. They are known for their harmonies. Try Helplessly Hoping, One Man Band, I Can’t Outrun You, O Holy Night, Do You Hear What I Hear (arranged by Adam Rupp - beatboxer). Love them!😍😄
As a vocalist myself I enjoy your transcriptions for a few reasons. First, based on your clef signs I get to see where everyone is singing in their registers. That helps me appreciate them more than by simply saying, “wow, he really sings high” or “sheesh, that is really low”. Second, I get to actually see chordal structures. I can’t hear as well as you can (I’m deaf in one ear) so it’s helpful for me to see things you hear. I keep a digital keyboard open on my iPad so I can quickly change apps and check out a pitch quickly. The bass, for instance, finishes on a low “F#1” and I’ve never heard anyone sing that low. Your transcription allowed me to see the key signature so I was able to google “6 sharps” to know he landed on that low tonic. Their harmony is exceptionally tight and when they want emphasis on that tightness they take the vibrato out of their voices to get the tightest harmony possible. This is especially highlighted in that sustained chord they all hold together in their high registers near the end. I really enjoyed both the arrangement and performance, thanks for sharing your musical insights and adding to the experience 😊
I'm really happy you found Home Free. I discovered them through Pentatonix reactors, and both groups are my absolute favorites. Looking forward to more reactions!
It's interesting to me to scroll through these comments and see all the Home Free fans comments - they read exactly like the PTX fan comments! I think both groups are clearly strong acapella groups; the difference is in the appeal of the genres they sing. I'm not much of a country fan so don't know most songs HF do, though I can appreciate the harmonies (I do love Austin's voice). But for me, PTX still holds my heart - I prefer the intricate pop arrangements and medleys they do. I do love the version of this song with Avi - that dueling bass is fabulous! Still enjoying your in-depth commentary!
I called PTX winning and Home Free from their first performances on the sing off. But watching THIS live....omg. not being able to pause and decompress after 😅🎉
New Home Free sub. Boy, are you in for a treat. Home Free is my favorite a cappella group. They are the "warm and fuzzy" a cappella group, in my opinion. We all want to hang out with them. Just wait. You'll want to hang with them, too. Plus they're vocally brilliant. They sometimes arrange their own stuff. They have originals. Their covers are amazing. It's all brilliant. I like Pentatonix, but they leave me cold and are overly produced sometimes. Just saying. ASIDE: The home free fans are extremely loyal. Just sayin'. You'll see. ;) AND well, shit, your transcription is on point. I'm so impressed. Sorry for the language. Will I be kicked out? I'm a nerdy musician, too. I love this. Been waiting forever for a musician who understands this stuff. Many "Home Fries" are musicians or singers or something like that! You need to listen to more. This was 10 years ago. They're so much better now, if that's possible.
Hey Dani, thanks for watching and subbing - means a lot! Please use whatever language you want 😂 Thanks for the note on my transcription! I'm a new reactor who aims to dig a bit deeper into what we're hearing (rather than the standard "that was nice/awesome/great"), particularly from the music-theory side of things 🎶Please feel free to check out my other reactions (so far, acapella-wise, I've only done PTX, but now Home Free are on my radar I plan on doing them frequently too. Absolutely loved this arrangement.) Hope to see you around on my future Home Free vids!
@@SirHairless I will be there for everything Home Free. If you’re looking for more complex theory, there are so many. It’s hard to choose where to start. I’ll think on it and get back to you. This is great!
Thanks! (And on the American part - guessing that's in response to me saying use whatever language you want?? I meant cos of this part of your comment: " AND well, shit, your transcription is on point. I'm so impressed. Sorry for the language. Will I be kicked out?" 😂 @@danivansuperstar
I clicked on this thinking it was the one with Avi, but it was fun to see it with just Home Free, too. Looking forward to the one with Avi. They each have solos and it's fun hearing the difference in their tones.
THANK YOU!!! Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful (and, yes...I'm old enough to say that like Lawrence Welk used to). "Wunnerful, wunnerful, wunnerful!!!" with his lovely German accent. He was born in North Dakota, not far from where my mom was born, (an hour away from where I now live) in Aberdeen, South Dakota. When she and her two sisters were playing in their own little dance band, one time when Lawrence Welk visited down this way, the "Rainbow Kiddies" got to open for Lawrence and his crew. When I was growing up in Valdez, Alaska, after we moved there when I was two years old, we never had TV (they got it later, after I had moved away to Anchorage and other parts of the state), but we had live radio broadcasts all the time, from all over the world. Valdez is in the perfect place to catch overseas broadcasts (still). I spent a LOT of time standing in front of Daddy's wonderful radio, and learning song after song after song, which the radio reactors actually would broadcast even before the people who had TV hundreds of miles away from us got to hear them. I listened to a LOT of Lawrence Welk stuff, then, which was like 20 years after Mom got to meet them that one time. What fun! Sorry...I was just going say how WONDERFUL this reaction is, that you just did. Your descriptions and musical wisdom just keeps getting to me. I appreciate everything you have to say, and LOVE how you present it. It just reminds me of how I was raised. So...again...THANK YOU! Now I'm REALLY looking forward to the Avi version.
New subscriber. Great reaction, too! I love it when people discover Home Free. They are a freakishly talented group of fellas that excel in all music genres. They can make you laugh sometimes, they can make you cry sometimes but they always impress. Here's a cheat sheet on the group: Adam Rupp, co-founder of HF and the awesome beatboxer. Tim Foust, bass. He has a five-octave range. Rob Lundquist (glasses and beard) Tenor Harmony. Austin Brown, Lead Tenor. Adam Chance, Baritone ( goes by Chance). Chance replaced Chris Rupp (co-founder) who left in 2016. Take Me Home Country Roads is phenomenal but you might also want to check out Dreamer, When A Man Loves A Woman, End Of The Road, One Man Band, American Pie featuring Don McLean, I Swear, Blue Ain't Your Color, Dive Bar Saints, The Driver, Crazy and Folsom Prison Blues. For some funny ones: Butts Medley, All About That Bass, Champagne Taste, Hillbilly Bone and Ray Stevens' Mississippi Squirrel Revival. For some serious ones: How Great Thou Art, Go Rest High On That Mountain. When you are familiar with all the boys and their vocal roles, do Mayday. And last but not least, Brothers In Arms. It is haunting and beautiful. They have recently released several new songs that you will want to check out. Unchained Melody, Listen to the Music, Brother and Stargazer Lilies trilogy: Give Me A Sign, Stargazer Lilies and Mr. ...Their latest releases are Might As Well Be Me, Playing With Fire, Remember My Name, Oh, Pretty Woman and Life is a Highway. To switch it up..try Two Country Singers try singing Opera. Adam Chance just wrote the theme song to Ubisoft's new Pirate themed video game, Skull and Bones and Home Free performs it. Welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole!
I am so loving your reactions to the acapella groups. Have you reacted to VoicePlay yet? They're VERY theatrical with their oh so amazing voices. Can't wait for you to do more of all 3 fabulous acapella groups! THANKS!!
Thank you! No VoicePlay just yet, but they will come in the future as they've been mentioned quite a few times! 🙌 My upcoming video release schedule is really rather packed (with one video a day) and I really try my best to fit in as many recommendations as I can
There is a new version by Home Free of this song on their newest CD, As Seen On TV. It is another great version of this song. I am looking forward to seeing you explore the very talented Home Free.
@@SirHairless Most noticeable is that Adam Chance replaces Avi for his singing parts. Since Chance replaced Chris Rupp, who wears the cowboy hat, in the group, there are other differences, but it's still a great cover.
The version with Avi is just as good, but in a different way. They let Avi shine then at the end they sort of do a little dueling bass with Tim finishing off with that super low note.
You are so screwed (but in a good way)! Welcome to the exquisitely deep rabbit hole that is Home Free. You are about to be inundated with Home Fries, fans like myself, who absolutely love to watch people discover these amazing artists (don’t worry, we’re a loyal bunch, but friendly). Because, let’s face it … we Home Fries love to see the birth of a New Fry. There is no “lead” singer in this group, as they choose who leads by each giving their ideas and then choosing who they think is best. There are no egos in these genuinely down-to-earth, and quite funny men. This group has 5 beatboxers, 5 tenors, 2 bases … and 5 guys who take the music seriously, but not themselves. Except on the most serious of songs, there is almost always at least a hint of humor somewhere. The next usual songs are Man of Constant Sorrow, Ring of Fire with Avi Kaplan, Folsom Prison Blues, and End of the Road. I urge you to NOT react to Mayday until you’ve gotten several songs under your belt and know a little more about each member, but before you explore their solo channels. Trust me on this. Let’s introduce you to our boys. From left to right: Rob “the beard” Lundquist, lead tenor, comic relief, and amazing whistler. He’s from Minnesota, often referred to as “Gospel Rob,” and the member with the best voice according to every member of Home Free (excepting Rob). Overlooked and underrated by the producers of the Sing Off, IMHO, I particularly love him in End of the Road, Blue Ain’t Your Color, Bless the Broken Road, One Man Band, Honey I’m Good, and The Driver. He also teamed with co-member Austin Brown and did “Two country singers try singing opera,” on Austin’s channel - I highly recommend it (an exception to the solo channel recommendation I made before). Chris Rupp, baritone and co-founder with brother, beatboxer Adam Rupp, from Minnesota. He left the group amicably in 2016. He does do a few leads, but largely harmonizes while having brief solos, as he does wonderfully in Do You Hear What I Hear. I unfortunately don’t know as much about him, as I discovered them after he left. He was replaced by Adam Chance, called Chance because of the other Adam. Adam Chance, Alabama boy, who takes over the bass when Tim takes lead, premiered his smokey voice with Home Free in the video for Try Everything. I love him in Sea Shanty Medley, Skull and Bones (which he wrote), Brothers in Arms (a masterpiece of 5-part harmony), Helplessly Hoping, Brother, and Castle on the Hill. Since the Holidays are coming, I also love him in Auld Lang Syne. Next is basso profundo Tim Foust, Texan, who is apparently part dragon. He has a 5+ octave range and a great sense of humor. I particularly recommend Band of Brothers, In the Blood, Hillbilly Bone, Forever Amen, Folsom Prison Blues, and so many others. His collaboration with Peter Hollens in Misty Mountain will blow you away. There are several “Story Time with Tim” videos that show his humor, and I also recommend his “A Southerner in the Snow” video for the same reason. Mary Did You Know is also a must-see. Next is high tenor Austin Brown, youngest member from Georgia. When a Man Loves a Woman. That’s all that needs to be said. Seriously. Last, but not least, is vocal percussionist and tenor, co-founder Adam Rupp. The other members claim Adam has the largest range in the group. There are several “drum solo” videos online, and I would recommend watching an early one then a more recent one too see how much he’s developed his craft. His arrangement of Do You Hear What I Hear is intricate and amazing, and IMO showcases each member brilliantly. His “nomonica” in Man of Constant Sorrow and Ain’t Going Down is jaw dropping. He rarely does solos, but you can definitely hear him for a few angelic notes in How Great Thou Art, perhaps the most beautiful version I’ve ever heard and another masterpiece in 5-part harmony. To see their funny side, see All About the Bass, Butts Medley, Country Fried Pop, and Champagne Tastes (written by Tim). Since it’s holiday season, I also recommend Cold Hard Cash, Oh Holy Night, and Full of Cheer. You really can’t go wrong with anything they do. Welcome to the rabbit hole. It’s deep, but you won’t want to escape!
Was my transcription useful to you? Let me know!

Please listen to Lawrence, Don't lose sight, acoustic. You will be blown away!
FACT! Be Safe
Thanks @@rodconner9079 ! And noted on the title format suggestion - might use that in the future!
Sir hairless Your transcriptions are p l would definitely say are more interesting than they are useful.I appreciate what you are teaching me.I hope one day I will understand it aĺl
Your first Timquake! :)
Oh and welcome to the incredible range of Tim Foust
That look at 8:26.....the same look that everyone gets the first time they hear Tim go full "subwoofer" mode. Always fun to see! Great video!
I'm so happy you decided to do this one first. While the one with Avi is great it splits the bass parts so you don't get to hear completely how amazing Tim is singing.
We NEVER mind when you go back and play it again (and again). 😊
Yes
Looking forward to discovering more of their work 🎶
@@SirHairlessYes, Rob & Austin did opera. Nesum Dorma. Two country singers try singing opera.
I believe that Rob Lundquist is also from Minnesota (in addition to the two Rupps).
When I said two were from Minnesota I was referring to their current make up; Rob Lundquist and and Adam Rupp.@@Joodster
This is awesome. Welcome to all if the acapella rabbit holes. Home free and the home fries will surprise you.
Thank you!
they often perform this as an encore for their shows.
These giys are just amazing! Keep listening..
I'm so glad you did this version first. I love the one with Avi, but this is my favorite version.
Thank you! I'm very keen to explore Home Free and their other works so watch this space!
Appreciate it, means a lot! Thanks for the recommendations, too 👍
Yes! You would be a fantastic person to review Do You Hear What I Hear! That arrangement is beautiful, but very complex. Something you could really sink your teeth into. 🎶🥰
I think it would be rude for me not to react to Do You Hear What I Hear! Hopefully fairly soon@@chilcootchicks4968
I do appreciate the transcriptions! I would also love captions on the videos. When I can't read lips to clarify certain words, it makes it difficult to enjoy it all the way. Captions would also help many other viewers as well.
Great job, keep 'em coming!
The bass, Tim Foust, has a 5 octave range so he can pretty much sing anything.
“Ring of Fire" is a song made popular by Johnny Cash when it appeared on his 1963 album Ring of Fire: The Best of Johnny Cash. Written by Cash's eventual second wife, June Carter Cash, and Merle Kilgore, it was originally recorded as "(Love's) Ring of Fire" by June's sister, Anita Carter…”
Wikipedia
As much as I love and admire Avi Kaplan, this is my favorite performance of "Ring of Fire". There is an energy in live performance. Home Free's experience with live audiences had tightened up their harmonies, blends and timing. Here they are giving it their all in one take, and it "sounds like a record" -- to quote one the Sing Off judges. I hope you'll listen to their Christmas masterpiece very soon! Arranged by the percussionist Adam Rupp, "Do You Hear What I Hear", is beautiful! I truly enjoyed your comments and approach to analysis. Home Free is the best.
Appreciate your comment - thanks! I've been recommended "Do You Hear What I Hear" a few times now so it's definitely on my radar 👌
@SirHairless it's a must. 😉🥰🥰
far far better than the one with Avi
Thank you! I live for interesting harmonic progressions, and my weak spot is suspensions, so this is music (literally) to my ears
Can confirm this comment is living up to its promise 😅
@@SirHairless I'm glad you are enjoying them.
Great stuff, I look forward to it!
To me, the most impressive collaborations are Don McLean allowing them to take on American Pie with him and Lee Greenwood doing the same with God Bless the USA.
@@DRHHUByes!!
Looking forward to more
Thank you, will definitely be more Home Free coming!
🙏
Subbed to see where you'll go next on your Home Free exploration. Home Free takes A Capella to a whole new level. You were amazed by this early Home Free rendition. I can't wait to see how you react to their newer performances. Yes, they out do themselves every time they perform. Masters one and all.
Thank you! Am very much looking forward to it 👍
Subbed also for this reason!
Loved your reaction and the transcription Home Free is one of those groups that the more you learn the more you will like them.
Grew up on (there was no FM) AM radio... listening to Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, etc
Aaaaaaaaaaand another one falls down the Home Free rabbit hole. Don’t worry the Home Fries will save you a seat 😊
You just got yourself a new subscriber.
A little info on the group
Adam (Rupp)(cofounder): beatboxer extraordinaire.
Austin (Brown): High tenor (pretty sure he can get into baritone range, though), some beatboxing, various vocal instrumentation (including the No-monica and electric guitar)
Tim (Foust): Legendary bass singer(does a mean walking bass line).
Haha! Thank you for this info, it's so very helpful 👌
It is! 😀
Home Free had been touring and singing for a decade or more at this point.
Wow, thanks for the info, that's cool to know they already had years of experience under their belt
Chris Rupp and Brother Adam ..Beatbox...Chris did a History of Home Free On his TH-cam channel..worth the watch
Cool, thanks for letting me know!@@fd009597
You need to hear Man of Constant Sorrow next, welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole 😊
Sounds incredible - bet it feels weird! Yes I watch the judge's comments afterwards
Really enjoyed the reaction and musical breakdown of the chords. Looking forward to more Home Free.
🙏
Hoping for more Home Free, and like orhers have said they are really addictive! Enjoy the ride! I am here for it!
Thank you! I 100% will be continuing down these rabbit holes
Thanks for watching ☺ Expect many more Home Free reactions to come; musically, they seem great.
Thank you for your Home Free reaction. I'm a new sub looking forward to more. We Home Fries love good reactors!
Lovely to hear, thanks 🙌
You are going to freak out when you hear them do this with Avi. The G1 that Tim hits and sustains at the end of that video is crazy. If you could, try to check out Geoff Catellucci's cover of Man Of Constant Sorrow, he's the bass vocalist for the a capella group Voiceplay, but he dings all of the parts in Man Of Constant Sorrow.
Tim is the bass, Austin is the high tenor, Rob with the beard is their lower tenor, The hat guy is Chris a baritone in the group and The Beatboxer is Adam.
Thanks! Seems like I sussed it (for this performance, at least!)
Another new sub in hopes of more Home Free. Sir, you are so enjoyable to listen to, your comments 😂and informative and I love the breakdown
Thank you so much!
New sub - love seeing the notes written out. As you watch Tim, the bass, you'll find that he moves his right hand down the lower the notes go. 😊
Haha thanks! I'll watch out for it 👀
Great Reaction!! Welcome to Home Free rabbit hole.
The group started in 2001 by brothers Chris and Adam Rupp
They are the only country A Capella ( all vocals no instruments)group but they are honestly do much more than just country music they can sing any genre and they do

Enjoyed your reaction....I just subbed so I can go on this Home Free journey with! When they sing this at their shows...that last note goes even lower and your seat rattles and you you feel it in your chest! Let the journey begin!
🤯
Wow got your first taste of Home Free. Now will need to check out their friends from The Sing-Off. VoicePlay. They are my top two favorite acapella groups.
The old Spiritual, Children Go Where I Send Thee , as done by HF and Kenny Rogers , is going to blow your musical mind arrangement- wise. There’s so much going on and to such perfection you will faint. ❤
Can't wait to see you do more from them. You will soon be a Home Fry (fan) !
😀
welcome to Home Free reactions.
Tim hits the huge note at the end but they show Avi😮
Enjoyed your excellent reaction!
Thanks for watching ☺
The version with Avi is... well... Fire!
P.S. IIRC Tim's range is something like 5 octaves.
June Carter wrote this about meeting Johnny. She was married to her first husband at the time. Johnny made it famous.
Just subbed for more Home Free! ❤

Tim's walking bass just sounds sooo real!
Watched them live in concert and you don't hear that last low note so much as you FEEL IT through your whole chest. It's INSANE.
I like the sing off version better ❤ but I love Avi too ❤ subscribed for Home Free 🤟🤠🤟

This was the performance that won the season for them. Great reaction.
So good and I love how you break it all down. Ive seen them live and just like PTX, there is no difference from the recorded songs. They are also funny as hell! On to the next! 😊😊
Thanks! I've seen a number of comments saying how great their personalities are which is great to hear
YOU have very good sense for music, great job
Appreciate the comment 🙌
Subbing for more #homefree. Great reaction ❤

I believe Ring of Fire was co-written by Cash's second wife, June Carter.( Not co-written with Cash)
Fantastic! I ❤#Homefree.
I’d like to hear more from you, as you listen to Home Free!!
I plan on discovering much more of their music!
Thanks! And I plan on Do You Hear being my next HF reaction!
Even as young as they were is is a great cover of this song.❤️❤️❤️❤️
Love them!😍😄
Thank you for these recommendations!
❤🤠#HomeFree. Amazing. Great reaction.🏠🍟
So cool when someone discovers this group! Love your responses.
Thanks for the comment! (I hope there's no competition between Pentaholics and Home Fries!)
Love your reaction style. I'll be watching for more analysis like this especially with some of the more complex or fun arrangements from Home Free.
Thank you v much 🙌
Geoff Castellucci from VoicePlay is a great bass too. And has some good solo bass covers on yt.
I called PTX winning and Home Free from their first performances on the sing off. But watching THIS live....omg. not being able to pause and decompress after 😅🎉
I can hardly wait for your videos! LOVE LOVE LOVE your reactions ❤

Please use whatever language you want 😂
Thanks for the note on my transcription! Absolutely loved this arrangement.)
Hope to see you around on my future Home Free vids!
@@SirHairless I will be there for everything Home Free. If you’re looking for more complex theory, there are so many. It’s hard to choose where to start. I’ll think on it and get back to you. This is great!
I’m American btw.
Thanks!
(And on the American part - guessing that's in response to me saying use whatever language you want?? I meant cos of this part of your comment: " AND well, shit, your transcription is on point. I'm so impressed. Sorry for the language. Will I be kicked out?" 😂

@@SirHairless ohhhh. Yeah I get that now. I’m great at music theory, but not so great at social cues. Ugh 🤷🏼♀️🤪
Johnny Cash did sing this song; his wife June Carter wrote the song
Haha no worries, thanks for the comment! Glad you enjoyed
NEW HOME FREE REACTOR! AUTO SUBSCRIBED!! MORE OF HOME FREE PLEASE! THANK YOU!
Haha thanks! More Home Free will be coming
Ring of Fire was written by Johnny's wife June Carter
And to think, Rob and Austin can even do opera..... Really.
Mind blown.
Thanks 🙏
I am so loving your reactions to the acapella groups. Have you reacted to VoicePlay yet? They're VERY theatrical with their oh so amazing voices. Can't wait for you to do more of all 3 fabulous acapella groups! THANKS!!
Thank you! No VoicePlay just yet, but they will come in the future as they've been mentioned quite a few times! 🙌 My upcoming video release schedule is really rather packed (with one video a day) and I really try my best to fit in as many recommendations as I can
@@SirHairless Thanks for the reply. I appreciate that!
There is a new version by Home Free of this song on their newest CD, As Seen On TV. It is another great version of this song. I am looking forward to seeing you explore the very talented Home Free.
Oo what's different about it?
@@SirHairless Most noticeable is that Adam Chance replaces Avi for his singing parts. Since Chance replaced Chris Rupp, who wears the cowboy hat, in the group, there are other differences, but it's still a great cover.
Terrific reaction, thank you.
Thanks for watching 😀
From left to right:
Rob “the beard” Lundquist, lead tenor, comic relief, and amazing whistler.
Thank you thank you. Introductory comments like this are super helpful!
Love your analysis. I always learn a lot.
Thanks!
i like the guys voice with the blonde curly hair
