      @@stiviwonders oh thank you for sharing, this color is gorgeous but I was really underwhelmed when I tried it in Daniel Smith dot card, I might try the brand you mentioned in the future 😊

      There is a reason why. Daniel Smith's Lapis Lazuli is sourced from South America and the Lapis Lazuli pigment from the old days (also used in Ultramarine Blue) is from Afghanistan. The Lapis Lazuli from South America is a milder blue. I prefer the historical or traditional version used in watercolor painting, which is from Kochka in Afghanistan. That's the kind that Michael Harding offers. Down the road, I can make a comparison video. Roman Szmal also has a Lapis Lazuli.

    How can one possibly choose a favourite. So many beautiful blues. One that is not in this line up that is also wonderful is Lunar Blue. All so gorgeous!

      It is challenging to choose one, as you’ve said. So calming to see them side by side. Lunar Blue is a beauty! I love that one too. Perfect for moody afternoon skies.

    My two favorites are Blue Apatite and Kyanite (both “Genuine” which is Daniel Smith speak for “mineral” aka rock).

      Lovely to hear, thank you! Most of my work are private commissions and clients have requested to keep it that way since they are for private homes and they intend to keep them as heirloom pieces. I do plan to publish some videos on painting and tutorials here. Just prioritizing all these "pigment discovery" videos for the channel first so viewers watching the painting videos down the road would have a reference point when that happens. If I may add, the goal of the channel is to be a destination for color and calm, not about me or my work. Pigments, their relaxing impact, and their connections to those watching are the heroes of the channel.

  • @bernardchan1166
    @bernardchan1166 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Cerulean Blue Chromium is missing from this line-up. I prefer it to the classic cerulean blue and it’s great for skies, sea, and mixing soft granulating greys.

    • @stiviwonders
      @stiviwonders  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are right that it is not included here because I rarely use Cerulean Blue Chromium. Thank you for sharing your insight about it. Now I feel a little inspired to take it out of the drawer and to give it another go. Thank you again!

      @@stiviwonders please do! I like it’s slightly green undertone and higher tinting strength compared to classic cerulean.

    • @stiviwonders
      @stiviwonders  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I genuinely appreciate that advice! It is interesting because in one of my videos (or maybe this one, somewhere in the Comment section), another watercolor artist commented that she preferred the classic Cerulean (PB35 by Daniel Smith) because it is blue-leaning. Like you, PB36 (which is what Daniel Smith uses for Cerulean Blue Chromium) seems to be the preferred Cerulean Blue by other brands too. This is maybe because of its green direction. Thank you again for sharing this information!

    • @stiviwonders
      @stiviwonders  ปีที่แล้ว

      I love using Genuine Lapis Lazuli too! The one from Daniel Smith is from Chile. It is lighter in color compared to the traditional one from Afghanistan. If you're interested, my favorite Lapis Lazuli is from Michael Harding. You'll see it in this video that I filmed recently, th-cam.com/video/BwU0SljCXOw/w-d-xo.html
      In a few weeks, I will be uploading a video on Lapis Lazuli Watercolors so you'll be able to see these colors side by side.

    I found their french ultramarine can dry very hard just like a rock. Have you ever encounter the minor problem?

    Hello 👋🏼. Why do you say that Sodalite is a component of Lapis Lazuli? I thought Lapis Lazuli came from a stone.

    • @stiviwonders
      @stiviwonders  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, Lapis Lazuli is a rock that is made up of a variety of minerals and on rare occasions, Sodalite has been found to be one of those "constituent minerals," "rare" being the operative word.
