Love point karting, great site, never knew you guys had a youtube channel. So, the break in oil is thinner?! What is your opinion on running the break in oil through the whole life of the engine, would I end up getting more life out of my engine doing that?

I just bought a new 206 engine yesterday. How much of the break in oil do you use? How long do you leave that in the engine before you drain it and put the regular amsoil in it? I'm going to have to try and set the valve lash and set the carb float up as well. I hope I don't screw it up.

Hey @Dollar Bill, congrats on your 206 purchase! The Amsoil Break-In oil we suggest 14.0 oz of oil. As mentioned in another comment, we just created a break-in and motor maintenance document for our customers, reach out to us via email @ pointkarting@gmail.com and we can send you a copy.
Our break-in process includes takes approx. 1 hour, 40 minutes. We suggest our customers cycle (2) changes of break-in oil through the engine during this time, starting with 14.0 oz fresh oil, and doing a slow break-in (less than 4,000 RPM) for first 40 minutes run time, then drain oil and re-fill with Break-In oil again, and run engine hard for 1.0 hour. After this total 1 hour 40 minutes we suggest draining break-in oil, and re-filling the engine with 14.0 Oz of Amsoil Synthetic 4T Racing oil. As long as you change the oil every track day, you'll be set from then on!
If you have questions on setting your valve lash or float drop / height, check out our videos on those subjects! Anything that is unclear, leave a comment, or email us at pointkarting@gmail.com and we will be happy to help you!

How often are you supposed to change the oil ?

Hey @Michael Leonard, great question! We recommend changing the oil once a track day for best results. This might sound excessive, but it really does make a difference in the longevity of your engine's performance over time.

    Can you use Mobil 5w30?

Francesco id strongly, strongly advise against that. Most “car” oils are designed for what is called a pump-around system, this means they need a pump within the engine to circulate the oil. A Briggs 206 uses a splash oiling system, which makes most PAG type oils to fail to adhere to critical wear and distribution components. So, you can....but I think the results you’ll get will be very, very poor. Also, consider the extreme temperatures that the oil is subjected to, and this might also help you consider which oil might be right. AMSOIL 4T really is designed specifically for this engine.
