Choosing the Right Tie Rods for Go Karts
Can you leave the remote brake bleeder valve open while bleeding the callipers and let it act like a traditional master cylinder reservoir?
Very useful, thanks
I think you should of added the caster adjustment as well
I have a quad that’s discontinued so pretty much parts are impossible to find do I need to get the exact tie rod or does it just have to be the same length. Help would be appreciated front end feels like a loose goose
Do I really need to watch a video of someone unboxing a clutch? If someone is in need of this they don’t need to be working on a race kart…
Wow! That was soo informative 😂 I would have never known that it mixes with gas or how to open a bottle. Do better
I don’t even know how to start it?
I appreciate how you explain every step and gear this towards novice karters like myself. Your videos keep me on the track. Awesome
What about a Honda fit , would it fit
Hey , just felt compelled to leave this comment 👈🏼✌🏼👍🏼 I’m sitting here watching a variety of race kart slide carb linkage set ups and this one here simplifies my life to the fullest extent ‼️ The craziness out there is real man 😂😂you wouldn’t believe the linkage set up on the throttle pedal people are doing ……. WOW …. Thanks again for sharing this tutorial !! Huge help , No craziness
Love point karting, great site, never knew you guys had a youtube channel. So, the break in oil is thinner?! What is your opinion on running the break in oil through the whole life of the engine, would I end up getting more life out of my engine doing that?
What’s the model of thar car?
You need to get a better camera angle for us to see the parts and not you so much. No offense
I'm still trying to find where to buy adult sized seats.
Hi there! We sell adult sized seats at pointkarting.com
Pressure bleeding brakes is the fastest and surest way to get a rick hard brake peddle on your kart. This is what I use after a decade+. You can do a search for: internet bmw riders build a brake bleeder, to see it. It's a .5 gal sprayer that you pump-up to 25lb+, then attach a 1/4" hose line to the top of the remote bleeder cap (w/ a hose barb attached). No fooling around with gravity or the brake peddle or needing another person. Although, truth be told, as a certified SCUBA diver I used my dive tanks as an air source with the inexpensive inline gauge to monitor air pressure. Some cheaper sources to those in link I referenced: Harbor Freight the sprayer is $5 v $15 for Ace. HF part #'s: Sprayer 56167, gauge/regulator 68223($6.29) 62696($9), gauge 64558($7) 64104($7) Plus you'll need some hose barbs and other stuff depending on how you assemble it. And remember, it ban be used on your car, you'll just need another master cyl. cap. Hope this is helpful.
The only thing I learned watching this is that 1cm=10mm. Not what I came here for but still knowledge none the less
I am at a loss as to why I watch tons of these alignment videos and none of them ever explain the grid on the tool? I would think this is one of the most important elements to understand? WHAT IS ZERO on the tool PLEASE?
Point Karting.. i noticed you have what looks like a sts(supertorque) belt pulley that attaches to what looks like a hilliard cluth. Who makes that?
Hi, is it possible to mount the seat forward a bit more? My current seat position is bit far back that I can't push my gas pedal all the way down when seated. The pedals are already adjusted to be as far front as possible.
Great video. Thanks so much for posting.
thanks for the video. i believe a full box is 2mm and a dot would be 1mm?
great video!, is this a VW Atlas?
That's really handy. Thanks for that. Super helpful.
why is the shorter tie rod going on the longer side of the cart? seems odd to me.
Great question! The shorter tie rod should go on the 'short' side of the kart, as the steering wheel is off center in the chassis. Perhaps we made a mistake in the video and you caught it! Either way, short tie rod on the short side of the kart, and vis versa.
I have this mount for the Briggs Lo206.....its not as great as it looks
Thanks for the response Twin Turbo! We'd love your feedback on what isn't as great on it, we use them all the time. Although, we should note the 4 cycle mount option is significantly different than the 5 Degree Mount.
@@PointKarting I just find that they don't slide as easily as you think they would(they can bind). Biggest problem is I bought it to make rear gear changes quicker but this isn't the case. I still have to adjust the chassis mounting clamps as well as the sliding bolts when i change gears to get the chain tension just right. The sliding window is very small so you have to figure out chassis mounting location and offset it to slide for chain tension Also the sliding bolts should have been from the top not the bottom(needs a better design) so that you don't have to squat dow and access them from the bottom. bottom line is I bought this to make an annoying job easier and it actually made things worse terrible design......save for money
@@twinturbo3470 Again, great feedback! So far, we have found the sliding motion to be fairly easy when all is aligned correctly. If you are having to change the tension of the base clamps along with the two slider clamps, chances are you are making really big gear changes, or are in a unique position where you are straddling a strut / cross brace on the motor mount area, which can happen. One tip we have with these motor mounts, along with any motor mount is to adjust your 'upper' tension to the front bolt on the top plate, and realize that as the motor mounts wear the tension difference between the front and rear top plate bolts will 'relax' slightly as you tighten and loosen. A mount of this quality however should prevent a lot of this happening!
EXCELLENT VIDEO ! Good narrative and explanation of procedures
We are glad you found this helpful!
Hi, great instructional videos 👍 Can you fit KG 507/508 bodywork to a kart that currently had CRG na2 bodywork or do you need to get KG 507/508 specific mount/clamp system?
Hey Schumifan, the answer to your question is yes, you can! A couple items need to be changed, such as the side pod nerf bars and the front nassau panel supports, but we have done this for customers several times, and it is possible. The KG 507 / 508 bodywork is just coming on the market but we can assist you with this anytime, reach out to us at orders@pointkarting.com and we can assist.
i can't wait for the video on how to tune these
Thanks Shawn0087! We are actually hoping to work on some video work this weekend time permitting on some more 206 clutch items.
What do you have for mini bikes❓
Hi Brad! Thanks for reaching out! Currently we don't have a lot of Mini Bike parts on the site, if any really, but we would recommend BMI Karts for those components. Our Hilliard clutch shown here is likely the best option out of all of them for a Mini Bike as well!
Can you advise an estimate of the overall length and width dimensions (with wheels on) of your Kart? I understand each Kart is different, but just trying to get an idea of the overall size of a Kart. Thxs!
@matilda Vazquez thanks for commenting! With the wheels on, this kart in particular (and most full size karts) are about 55" in width and about 83" in length with all bodywork installed. That's a rough dimension. The thing I usually tell racers is imagine a big rectangular box that is 5' wide, 3' tall, and about 7' long, and that is the space a kart fully assembled takes up. I hope this is helpful!
Hilliard Clutches: 1.) Inferno 2.) Flame 3.) Fire. What are the differences exactly . . . Good, Beter, Best? Need a follow up vid to explore what we are buying.
@IRQVET thank you for your comment! The next video is going to be coming soon! Anyway, in the meantime, to your question - the Inferno is the 'line' of clutches offered by Hilliard, and includes the Flame, Fire, Fury, etc., basically several clutches. The Flame is the clutch shown in this video. The Fire clutch is the same clutch, except for the drum and the clutch shoes, which have added pad material and a slightly larger diameter drum. In our experience, except for the true national-level kart racer the Flame clutch is the best all-rounder, as the fire shoes wear faster than the flame. The pro is that they grip harder when new, but require more routine maintenance than the flame. Hopefully this is helpful to you!
I don't care about Erik's new shirt the whole video should be a close up not across the room really really
Thank you Guiliano for the feedback! Noted on the zoom preference, we want to re-do this video, it's about finding time to get that done! Stay tuned, new content coming soon :)
Hmm, I measured my spot and it's 43"w by 58"l. Not to try and find specs on the kart I am looking to buy. This gives me hope. How quickly can you get kart put back together?
Hi John! Thank you for your comment! Most karts can be re-assembled within 5-10 minutes with the right tools and everything organized. But, this can vary a little from racer to racer.
I have an Arrow chassis and it will be my first time mounting a seat, I have no clue about what to measure for the seat to fit me perfectly (ex: not being to close, too far, too leaned on my back, too square up … ) I have another CRG chassis in which the seat position was perfect for me, can I take the same measurements from the Kingpin of my CRG and apply it to my Arrow so I can have the same seat position?
HI Mathieu! Thank you for reaching out to us regarding your inquiry. The answer is you can* apply those measurements from the CRG to the Arrow, but we would recommend against it. Instead, we urge you to reach out to Arrow Karts, or Google their seat position guide for your era of Arrow kart, and place the seat according to those measurements. If you are confused about this, or have additional questions, reach out to us via email at pointkarting@gmail.com, and we can help you find the correct information for getting your seat mounted properly.
Is there any consideration given to the motor mount angle when setting the float
Hi Bill! Really, really good question! We do not consider the angle of the engine at our shop, although we do hear this from other racers. In our minds, once fluid is traveling through the carburetor, this system is under pressure. It is minor, but it is true- wherever a fluid such as fuel or air flows, there is a pressure differential. With this in mind, it is the pressure or cycling of the engine that is more important to consider (at least to us) when setting the float height. Now, with that said, we admit we are a karting service center and retailer, not the highest-caliber engine builders. So, with that in mind, I'd ask a few different racers and retailers you trust for their input as well. For us, however, setting the float height based on engine performance and metering has always been the way to go. We hope this helps!
Do you have a video that illustrates changing out intake and exhaust springs when they wear out?
Hello! Thank you for commenting. At this time we do not have a video specifically about replacing the valve springs. However, we do have a great tool for easy removal of the valve springs on our site that makes it super easy to remove and replace the springs. We have added a note to our production list to make a video on how to do this, and we appreciate the suggestion! In the meantime, give us a call or email anytime and we can walk you through the process.
is there a power difference with the 0.002 / 0.001 or 0 ?
Good question! 0.002 is what we have found results in the least amount of blow-by when hot, at a minimum. 0.001 or 0 may make a little more power for a short period of time, but as components heat up and expand (the valves mainly) these tolerances are not ideal and can result in power loss. However, the best way to find if this is your experience as well is to test for yourself!
i have an suv and wanna make sure a kart could fit in my car before i buy one, so i was wondering if you knew how wide your trunk is so i know if a go kart could even fit in my trunk.
Hi Brandon! Great question. So, I don't know the exact dimensions on this SUV. However, the widest point on this particular go kart is 1040mm (the outer edge of the axle) when it is broken down like Tim shows you. So, I would budget for that being the widest point on the kart (1040mm is about 41"). Sometimes with SUV's you may ahve to twist the kart sideways when loading it in on smaller SUV's or hatchbacks. Let us know if this answers your question!
@@PointKarting that helps a lot, thanks so much!
@@starwrsbro2 You're welcome!
Hi Brandon! Sorry for our delay in response. The trunk here is about 44" wide, but keep in mind that the dimensions in your trunk will change due to the wheel wells and so on, so your maximum width needed can change a little with the profile of the kart. Hope this helps a little!
What kart stand is that? We are waiting for my daughter's kid kart to be shipped for this spring and I'm trying to get slot of stuff before it comes.
Hey DFisk75! Great question! The kart stand is made by Stone Karting, and is more rare to see, but is great for this application. If you have more questions on kart stands, or getting ready for spring, reach out to us anytime!
Always great videos. Simple and clear.
Thanks RW! We appreciate that, let us know if you have any questions on installing graphics!
Essentially said, showed, and offered nothing in the video, just sends to a website, good, but not really
Damn, that's some harsh criticism, but we'll bite - what were you hoping we would show in this video that wasn't covered?
Thanks i am in that position. I was wondering if theres another passenger would the kart stand be able to fit in the trunk too? Or what other ways can we fit the stand? And how long does it take you to disassemble/reassemble all of that once you get there?
Hi Spiralmunky - all good questions! The answer really is that it depends on the vehicle - a traditional passenger car likely won't work, but an SUV sometimes they have the cabin space to put the kart stand laying carefully on top of the kart - not always our first recommendation but it is possible. Disassembly time and re-assembly time various on person and their experience, but about 10 minutes to break it down to the point that it was in this video if all the tools are handy.
I know your comment is 9 months old, but a Honda Element is probably your best bet imo.
Great video for those starting out in karting and wondering how they can do it without a trailer.
Thank you RW, glad you found it helpful!
What throttle cable do I need to use for the Briggs and Stratton World Formula engine?
Hi SparcoSenna! You can use a standard throttle cable, usually about .120" in size for the World Formula. Here's a link to an example: pointkarting.com/products/96-throttle-cable-extra-flexible-96-long-cable-with-a-192-diameter-ball-end-10-pack
Should the rocker studs be loctite to avoid coming loose?
Hey Cory! Great question. The answer is likely no, as the heat from engine operation would render Loctite not very usable. With the frequency of service on the valves, my suggestion would get to just keep an eye on it and tighten as necessary. (there are grades of Loctite that are strong enough for the heat but wouldn't recommend it as you'll never get it loose).
6:12 ---6:13 break oil change color
Hi Goran, yes excellent point! This kart we used for demonstration had some older fluid in it, so hence the color change, as the two fluids were mixing. The DOT rating and type was the same, however. This color change is fairly common, but thank you for noting it!
hard to see what tabs you're talking about.
Hi Jason! Thank you for your feedback, we apologize for the far-shot, note that this is one of the first videos we made, we are in the process of starting up producing more videos consistently and this is one we want to re-make! Reach out to us anytime at pointkarting@gmail.com if you have any questions on setting your float height and drop!
Hey thank you for the helpful video, I just had one question regarding the rear break cilinder. Are those just normal common Philip head screws, or is there a hole drilled trough like and normal bleed nipple lol on a motorcycle for a example?
Hey Arjan! The bleed screw can vary oon the caliper depending on the kart, some (like this one) use a M3 allen-head screw on the side of the caliper. Others utilize a nut / screw on the top of the caliper that typically takes an 8 or 10mm screw. Motorcycle brakes will be similar in design and setup to most go kart calipers. I hope this is helpful! Reach out to us via email if you have trouble finding your specific bleed screw on your brake caliper (pointkarting@gmail.com)
Want to put one of these on a mini bike
Do it! It might be a little sketchy tipping from side to side, but not bad.
I'm 55 and grew up with these, It sounds like a good idea doesn't it? But soon you will find its not, Mostly described as a death machine, you will find it to be Something you are always limiting yourself at while driving because it constantly gets uncontrollable, It then becomes somewhat of a dread machine, Ive seen this more then once, But I'm all for more power on the go kart, drifting on dry pavement and doing cookie's! Stay away from steel picnic benches while drinking booze, I broke 3 ribs, But the good news was no damage to the kart!
How to remove the rubber bushing? The nut was pushed back further so there is nothing for the bolt to catch and pull out the rubber bushing....Suggestions on the best way to remove.
Hey Lance! Ah yes, I've been there, I know the struggle. Great question - often if this get's stuck sometimes I will thread the hardware into the bushing if possible and then 'jiggle' it loose. If that doesn't work, a small allen key and some spray lubricant like WD-40 or Silicone Spray can help loosen the stuck bushing. In the worst case you can cut it out and replace, but you want to try to avoid this if possible. The most successful tool I have found to work these out is a 'spring hook' tool, which is great for pulling out the rubber bushings if they are stuck.
