    This is one of my favorite scenes in any film I’ve watched. As an actor, I relate so much to the experience of having a really bad day, feeling worthless, embarrassed, then coming in to do a scene and letting all that anxiety and pain inside just give you permission to let loose. This weird thing happens where suddenly, your fear and your pain mean something and as theirs things reveal themselves they transform into something beautiful. It feels like when an actor lets go of all those expectations, egotistical thoughts, and just lets themselves be raw and unashamed, marvelous things happen. Time slows down. It feels like flying.

    It is noteworthy how Leonardo DiCaprio playing a character who was once a hero but now has to play the villain in a 'western' is a reference to him literally playing a villain named "Calvin Candie" in another Tarantino film Django Unchained.
    Even his villainous performance in this scene is a very close replication of his performance from Django Unchained, at the dinner table scene, where he threatens to kill Broomhilda in front of Dr. King Schultz and Django Freeman if he doesn't get what he is asking for.

    Sam Wanamaker (Nicholas Hammond, who played Friedrich von Trapp in The Sound of Music) is only physically in two scenes in the movie. But what a memorable character. He sees something in Rick that Rick doesn't see in himself anymore. He knows Rick is a better actor than a lot of the roles he's played, and with his encouragement, Rick gives a brilliant performance in one take. Sam is effusive with his praise afterwards, and helps Rick to get some of himself back. Love Hammond's performance.

    I love it, that fact that leonardo and brad were down to earth working class guys aspiring to be professional actors and artists. The two men reaching beyond their station in life created a tension that made this movie so memorable. Some of the greatest artists in history came from the economically lower classes. Genius has no class.

    My man Rick Dalton needed that bit of encouragement from the little girl. Those few words changed his whole perspective of himself.
    The director could've talked for an hour and Rick would've heard it and maybe felt a lil better, BUT...
    everyone knows that children are brutally honest, no matter if they're being positive or negative about it. So, when a child gives you a compliment, they actually mean every word they say. And you can take it to the bank. That's REAL, and HONEST. Children don't know how to be condescending yet.

    This movie is starting to grow on me in a way I did not expect. It being a tarantino flick I was waiting for the final explosion but the lead up always felt disjointed and frankly speaking unnecessary but it's acctuly enjoyable bits... I'd say the fact that it is a tarantino flick and the finale hype is what kinda hurts the journey that leads to The Moment.

    • @michaelairton3723
      @michaelairton3723 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I found the movie kind of meh on first viewing. However, given how much I'd liked Tarantino's other movies (and given that I'd had a similar reaction to Pulp Fiction the first time 25 years earlier), I gave it another watch. And my god, am I glad I did. It felt like Tarantino's most "mature" movie -- it's almost all dialogue and character development, but it's done beautifully. And the juxtaposition of two middle-aged movie performers who seem to be in the late afternoon of their respective careers, contrasted with the up-and-coming Sharon Tate and the even younger but highly promising Trudi Frazer, set against the backdrop of a changing Hollywood in a changing America, is almost poetic. I've now seen it probably a dozen times and it's my second favourite Tarantino movie, after PF. And one of my top 20 movies of all time.

    • @Erynnin
      @Erynnin ปีที่แล้ว

      @@michaelairton3723 I watched the movie and I was totally unaware of that time of Hollywood. Then I read the OUATIH novel, Tarantino's Cinema Speculation. And I understand that this is a time very important for Tarantino and he loves it.
      This only made me watch a lot of movies from that time: Easy Rider, a lot of Eastwood, Newman and McQueen movies, Rosemary's baby, etc.
      I'm so glad that Tarantino made this movie.

    It is really great directing and movie making when you suspend belief - then suspend that belief. I have watched this movie like dozens of times. And just about everytime, when they get to the scenes, both times, I REALLY get into them. On the first one, I am so deep into it, it is only when Leanardo yells; "Line! Line!", that I remember this is a movie, in a movie. Same for the second "Lancer" scene. Only when "Sam Wanamaker" are you brought back to reality; the reality of watching a film within a film.
    I really hope, maybe on a lark Quinton finishes the "Lancer" pilot, and while he's at it, finish that episode of "Bounty Law", where Jake has brought his latest bounty (Jody Janis) to Janistown, and he happens to be the son of Major Maxwell Janis. It would be very interesting to watch how it turns out.
    Julia Butters performance as Trudy Frazer, ah, er " Mirabella Lancer" added a pure sweetness to the entire film, especially when she congratulated Rick on his performance, as if to inject new energy into his soul. It is said that God needed something sweeter than milk chocolate, so He Created little girls! Julia is solid proof of this.
