I gotta mention this: if you read the journal entry upon completing this quest, Kratos actually mentions the boat captain he fucked over in GOW 1 and regrets how he did that man dirty.

Of all the side quests in all the video games I've ever played, this one will stick with me more than any other. Such a heartbreaking tale of bad decisions, guilt, and consequences. Sometimes the ramifications of your actions are so terrible that nothing you can do will ever make it right. All you can do make things "better than they were" and learn from those mistakes so as to never do it again.
This game has a lot of characters that has parallels with Kratos and it’s really interesting seeing how Kratos see these things and react to it.
Ragnarok repeatedly giving one lesson: You have to suffer for your choices. There is no happy ending if you take bad choices. Only bad consequences

Kratos was a dad. But at that time he did not care about being better. Now he does. That is why he changed, because he is trying to be better.

In the lore section of the whale we can see Kratos remembers the boat captain,, which he bullied many Times lol

When I discovered this thing I was absolutely blown away. This game really is a 10/10
kratos knows alot about being chained, and controlled, things are now better then they were, but the pain is still there.
Never thought about how fast Kratos could paddle a canoe. Now I know. About 40 knots lol
The storyline is as “short” as GoW 2018, I admit. But the world and the side quests, it really is combined by 2, even 3 games, like the devs said! Vamos Ragnarok!

I thought the prisoner its just another troll or something, turns out it's a bigass whale
capture an animal and chain it to a fixed place for years and then release him, it will be too scared or get too used to not moving that it will not move even once free. chained someone for years forged a chain in his mind, so even if the physical chain is broken the chain of his mind is still there.
Its moments like these that remind me of the karmic moments through God of War. Kratos story is filled with moments where he’s gained and he’s lost. Where he sold his soul to Ares to keep his life only to eventually be forced to kill his family. He breaks free from his chains and destroys Olympus, a difficult run itself for all those OG players.
And now, me seeing this beautiful creature being left to rot like this only reminds me why Mimir deserved what he got for working with Odin for as long as he did. But at least he’s a head that works with Kratos

I haven’t been able to find it since 2018 just before we cut off the old goat’s head.
This was a great foreshadowing of Tyr. Amazing writing.
I’m terrified of whales thought this was a giant turtle when it emerged but even tho my fear runs deep I still finished the quest couldn’t leave him like that I just wish I didn’t have to row up to his eye ball afterwards 😂😂😂 great side quest tho

I don’t know what mimir wanted him to do, he can’t swim anywhere because he’s surrounded by land. I thought they would mercy kill it but you can still go back

I was watching my brother play but he did this mission with Freya, all the time I was like I wonder what atreaus would think of all of this lol

The developers messed this up in the way that Atreus would have definitely had something more to say about this, even at the end maybe grill Mimir some more or relay more of what the creature was feeling after regaining it's freedom, he's kind of an empath towards animals after all

Idk why the title says "Secret Encounter", it's a side quest that you get immediately after talking to someone in the main story.
There is more to this mission. If you try to go back on the pier the blue mission symbol is still there. Hopefully someone will find how to finish this.

This side quest was my favorite in God of War Ragnarok, Mimir feeling sad for his actions, and the impact it had was painful to watch 😔
Playing it now, and just got done with this quest, it truly is amazing how this game just touches the heart.

I have a bug issue. So essentially when i go to the whale's eye there's no prompt to talk to it. Then i noticed that it's tail didn't go down whenever I freed it. Any help?

Yeah so when I hit the drum they acted like the island rose up and you can see the creature, but islands never moved and the game acts as if it has. When I try to row to it I hit invisible walls. I can't complete this mission and it's one of the last things I need to do to platinum 😫. Can anyone help? It's also too late to reload a save.

Mimir suffers from something and gives the lesson that if you make a bad choice , you will end up suffering bad consequences like if the parents dare to shout at their children then the children will suffer from bad consequences and the person will surely suffer for their choices
