- On July 20, 2022, a PUBG Mobile tournament in Bangladesh was raided by police and more than 100 players were detained and arrested.
Of those in attendance, almost all were high school and college students, [hailing from areas like Dhaka, Narayanganj, and Cox’s Bazar / who traveled from all across the country to compete in a friendly LAN event in Chuadanga]. who traveled to Chuadanga to compete in a friendly LAN event. On the second day of games, the community center was surrounded by police, all attendees were detained, and their phones were confiscated. Anyone over the age of 18 was sentenced to two nights in prison, and the six event organizers faced criminal charges.
So what is it about PUBG Mobile that led to it becoming illegal?

Hi, a Bangladeshi here. It was really sad to see when all of these events were happening. Even though I don't like Pubg, battle royale games or mobile games, I still think those players did not deserve to go to jail.

@@agoniavr Yeah, it can get tiresome how insular gaming as a hobby can be at times. Akshon immediately became a subscribe and follow with their ability to present succinct esports info and still pull it and gaming into the bigger picture.
They've been doing fantastic coverage since I started following in 2020, and only wish I'd stumbled upon them sooner!

Also, they can present videos about esports I don't care about that much in an interesting way, as you said, putting them into the bigger picture.
The "other" esports channel in the meantime keeps talking about Twitch streamers I don't care about(which have nothing to do with esports anyway) and recycling the same old clips in every video.

I think it's awesome that you cover these kinds of topics. Even though some people dislike when gaming channels cover political topics I think the interrelationship between video games and societies as a whole needs to be something that people are aware of and informed about because it not only affects the way we game but also potentially the way we live. I would suggest though, that if you guys make these kinds you link (at least some of) your sources to give the information given in the video some more credibility and more importantly give people who wanna know more about this topic a good starting point to begin with.
As your prototypical world-news ignorant American, I had no idea there was so much political tension over the issues covered in this video. It's amazing to see you all go from "just" making really good Overwatch and Super Smash Bros. content to being straight up journalists. Bravo.

Getting a bit political here, but wouldn't this be a bad move for Bangladesh to be banning Chinese stuff en Masse seeing as they're looking to China for a lot of investment
Politics is deciding what the future of the world should be. Everything that matters is eventually (often quickly) touched by politics, even the games we play to avoid politics.
On the flip side, not banning it would risk losing support from India. They’d rather stick with India since that’s who’s been mostly helping them (and who they’re surrounded by)
They consider India's investment worth more than China. Which kinda make sense consider their history with India

Since they launched the Belt and Road Initiative in 2013, they've forgiven just $422.2 million USD... low-income MENA countries are collectively *hundreds of billions* of dollars in debt to China, which is giving out loans with higher interest rates and shorter repayment terms than IMF loans. It may not be predatory lending per se, but it's irresponsible. The debt levels are unsustainable so they'll either need to be restructured or China will economically colonize these countries.
Really, because it looks like China is still handing out high interest loans to the “third world”. They forgive some loans yes, but not all of them and definitely not enough to make the debt manageable for most of those countries.

You should probably know that "debt-trap diplomacy" Is not a real thing and has been debunked multiple times. Also, Sri Lankas situation can in no way be blamed on China due to their own bad policies leading to extremely big problems + the severe exploration by western countries, whose loans can be far more described as "debt-traps" Especially those from the IMF and USA which require literal structural changes to your country such as, demolishing worker's rights, enacting destructive neoliberal economic policies, privatization of public services and the selling of them to foreign companies among other things. China's loans do not require anything like that and the "debt trap" diplomacy has even been dismissed by neoliberal capitalism supporting news organisations.

1st off: yes, debt trap might not be a thing. But it's still very clear that China want more than just money. They want to have a leverage over those country. Aka soft power

And this lead to the 1st reason, China care more about soft power than actually helping those country
