While there is no disputing that the GM II is the superior 24-70, for someone that this is a hobby, it is hard to justify the extra $1200+ over the Sigma, considering the images are indistinguishable outside of Lightroom pixel peeping.
I currently pair the Sigma 24-70mm Art with Tamron 35-150mm. The Tamron 35-150 would be THE choice if I only used one lens. Despite its size and weight it is well worth it for the versatility. I can't stress enough what an amazing lens it is! I would probably opt to replace the 24-70mm Art with the Sigma 16-28mm for more width and a lighter carry. Also considering the new Sony 11mm f1.8 for an extra light gimbal setup.
I love this lens. I just upgraded from my old Tamron 28-75. Been mostly editing previous footage stuck with a cold but now I can wait to properly test it. I film cars so the flexibility of 24-70 is perfect.
I ALWAYS skip sponsor ads, but although im not interested in the PPA stuff, i watched the entire video because this was the most refreshing and entertaining review I’ve seen all year. Great video J, keep it up.
I just shot my latest portrait session using the 24-70 GMII over my usual 85mm 1.8 and I have to say the 24-70 at 70mm is a great portrait lens especially in a little bit tighter spaces.
I had a Tamron 28-75mm 2.8 when I switched to Sony and it did well but I wanted something better, especially since Tamron wanted to charge almost the price of a used lens to fix the rubber zoom grip. I would’ve love to have the 24-70mm 2.8 GM II but it’s well over my budget so I ended up with the Sigma 24-70mm 2.8 Art lens and so far, I’m loving it. Maybe someday when I have the money I’ll trade my lens for a G Master 24-70mm version 2.
i love your content Jason, it's hard to believe you're a hybrid shooter because you do videos and photography so well. you're my inspiration! Thanks for reaffirming my purchase of the 24-70 GM II lens, I almost couldn't justify the price but you reassured me otherwise!
For event gigs, I prefer to use all zoom lenses. I use the sigma 14-24mm, sigma 24-70mm and Tamron 70-180mm on all 3 of my cameras. It's so much easier allowing me to reach certain shots without having to walk closer. Also, my work flow is much faster because i can use 2 different zoom lenses to get my shots and move on. I still use prime lenses especially with dark scenes or night shots. That F/1.8 really helps out allow which allows me to lower my iso to 3,200 or below. But most of all, i prefer to use my prime lenses for portraits session as the bokeh and sharpness is something i cannot get from my zoom lenses.
I have 2 cameras, one with the 16-35 f4 pz and another with the tamron 35-150 f2-2.8. I have the 14mm f1.8 GM in the bag just in case I need a wider focal length or a wide angle low light shot. Covers everything I need.
@@harryvuemedia5106 I rented it first, but just bought it. The versatility is second to none and I would choose it over primes every time unless you were working specifically with models or a couple that you could pose, compose, and shoot!
Got both and the V2 is improved in all areas. The most important improvements are - 2 custom buttons on the lens for when shooting in landscape or portrait, lighter weight and sharper. This is all we want in a lens. I'd rate the V1 as average to good. Not outstanding. This is how I feel about the 16-35PZ. also an average lens. I have buyers remorse on both of those lenses. The V2 though is a must have.
Dude. This new video style is fantastic. You're a weatherman for photos. Brilliant! Since I shoot like 90% cityscapes at F8/F11.. the 24-105/F4 has been my "lighter 24-70/2.8" for years. Of course now Sony comes along and drops a 24-70/2.8 that's almost identical size to the 24-105/F4. MY POCKETS HAVE BOTTOMS, SONY. Luckily I'm still on a tiny prime and manual lenses kick. I'm still Smeagol for now. But I'm pretty sure that GM2 is going to get me Golluming real soon.
for years, I debated the same 24-105... but ultimately the F4 pulled me back. This was long before I got comfortable stopping down on aperture. I will see you on the other side soon (GM2😉)
I agree that 28mm is not wide enough. 24 is just perfect. I shoot weddings almost every weekend with the Tamron 28-75 and I love the lens but sometimes I need just a little more width.
If I was on Sony I'd love to travel with the Tamron 35-150 f/2-2.8. Sadly ain't gonna happen soon on Canon RF. 24-105 f/4 is too short for me and f/4... For those reasons I'm gonna lump around my Sigma 40 1.4 and my beloved Canon 135 f/2.
My prime lenses died as soon as I got the Tamron 35-150mm, aside from the Sony 20mm G I keep in my bag incase I need a wide angle I cant remember the last time I even used one of my primes.

While I have owned both the Sony 24-70/2.8 GM II and version 1 and Canon L and Nikon Z equivalents I really like this a lot on my full size full frame bodies. That said I’ve recently (in the last 3-4 months) picked up the newer FE 24-50/2.8 G to use on my A7CR and A7CII and can recommend that as a light to carry alternative for travel. Always enjoy your videos. Thank you and take care.
Everytime I use my 16-35 to cover the area not covered my 28-75, the 16-35 so distorted and bugs me and yes 28 is still not wide enough for group shots. Sometimes you don’t have enough room to backup. However I love my 35-150.

I do concert/music photography so it's always dark and with production lighting... while I'm sure the sigma is great for some, it was horrible for my application. Sony 16 - 35 F4 FEPZ $1,200 + Sony 85 1.8, $600. = $1,800. Lighter, wider range, less expensive by $500 than the Sony 24 -70 II = $2300. With the $500 buy the 1.4 Teleconverter so 35mm converts to 50mm and 85mm converts to 130mm. So you've got 16 - 130mm.
Plastic fantastic... durability would be my concern. Very cool images though..! Yes, 28mm isn't quite wide enough. Does PPA offer discounts at Apple and if so... what % discount?
love this energetic video! you get at least one burst laugh out of me every time, and several today. thanks for the information and your perspective. 😄
I use an a6000 and 55-210mm kit sony lens and I just can't auto focus, it will only sharpen lets say the eye of the bird and none of the feathers. I also as a result manual focus and lose my shot half the time as bird has flown away. How is the a6400 with the 70-350mm focus and the sharpess of getting the whole body of a bird?
I couldn't believe how HEAVY these lenses are when I switched to full frame. My first FF glass was the Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 and it is CRAZY how heavy the total package is.
Ive been considering my f2.8 zoom lense, I just always use my primes, in everything I do I choose my primes. Although I know the versatility of the zooms are superior but idk, im unsure what to do

Weather presented to you by Jason Vong. 😂
Clouds with a slight chance of RAINING LENSES!!
I just do not like zoom Lenses, you could have made it just as compact with a Sony 24mm 1.4 GM plus a Sigma 90mm 2.8 DG DN Contemporary.
Video was entertaining from start to finish. Love your new style 💯
Plastic fantastic... durability would be my concern. Very cool images though..! Yes, 28mm isn't quite wide enough. Does PPA offer discounts at Apple and if so... what % discount?
Digging the green screen. That something I don’t typically say.
Very good Video and gorgeous photos! I am from Switzerland and you actually motivated me to go inte the Mountains more!
Just wanted to say, having you hover the images as a green screen is really great
love this energetic video! you get at least one burst laugh out of me every time, and several today. thanks for the information and your perspective. 😄
Is this Lens so much better than the old 24-70 ?
I like the comedic way you present your video LOL 😆
Great work on this video!
I can upgrade my Sony 24-70 GM f2.8 or buy the 35mm GM f1.4, what would be a better choice in your opinion ?
What did you end up doing?
I use an a6000 and 55-210mm kit sony lens and I just can't auto focus, it will only sharpen lets say the eye of the bird and none of the feathers. I also as a result manual focus and lose my shot half the time as bird has flown away. How is the a6400 with the 70-350mm focus and the sharpess of getting the whole body of a bird?
Here for the photography but staying for the hilarious presentation
I couldn't believe how HEAVY these lenses are when I switched to full frame. My first FF glass was the Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 and it is CRAZY how heavy the total package is.
Which camera you have and do you regrat that you buy the 24-70?
Love my combo with this and tamron 50-400 combo.
Frosted dip n dots is what sold me.
Nice job Jason. Love the green screen effect!!
Will it feel pretty similar to a 24-105mm as far as balanced weight on a body (a7r3)? More front heavy...?
I want one!
Ive been considering my f2.8 zoom lense, I just always use my primes, in everything I do I choose my primes. Although I know the versatility of the zooms are superior but idk, im unsure what to do
Loved the weatherman edit haha! I settled with the sigma 24-70 and I love it! Will get this gm ii in the future
I bought this for my first camera. Lol still learning on how to use it. Might of been overkill 👀
Understand what you mean
I love the way you play with words bro
24-70 or 24 105 for hiking?
Are you still planning on doing individual reviews of the new apsc lenses?
Thoroughly enjoyed your review!
I love my copy. This is so sharp as prime.
Thanks for the video Jason very nice. I have a question for you I just bought ZV E10 and I need to buy 3 lenses for a holiday in Europe, I am struggling with the choosing, since I want to take photos of landscape and cities, also on people, day and night. So between tamron 11-20 f 2.8, Sony 11 mm f1.8, Sigma 16 mm f1.4, Sigma 18-50 f 2,8, Tamron 17-70 f2.8 and Tamron 18-300 F3.5 -6.3, which 3 lenses would you pick for the trip( theses are my first lenses) Thanks a lot for your help
Sir, how about 18-35mm lens and aps-c camera for travel photography??
so what is the focal point? The water?😁
nice and fun using green screen. and have any news for 1635gm2??
i'm waiting for it too!
Great video man! Love this lens so much!
My "Prime Killer" Zoom lens is the Tamron 35-150 f2-2.8...
it's a great lens! I got a lot of great photos from it. My wrist wasn't happy though 🤣
@@JasonVong Better the wrist than the wallet! 🤣
0:36 Casually throwing 2.500 $ lens
When your dad is Sony, you got it like that.
Which audio capture gear would you recommend for video shooting?
@JasonVong Can you help me decide which one should I buy sony 16-35 gm2 or 24-70 gm2. I m just a hobbyist photographer n like to shoot portrait of family n travel photographs. I don't like to keep changing lens n want to travel light. Please suggest. Just for info I have the following but I don't like to switch n want to have one lens on my camera
Sony 11mm f1.8
Sony 50mm f2.8
Sony 90mm f2.8
Sigma 30mm f1.4
Sony 18-135mm f3.5-5.6 kit lens (I usually use this most as I don't have to switch)
