    this goes for all sv650 gen1 & dl650 (i think up to 2012). The mod is to replace the intake camshafts from sv650 gen2 and swap the ,now removed, existing intake cams as exhaust. The Sv and dl forums are all over it but it is really nice to see it on a video (since i am preparing to do it on my old Vstrom)

    Hi I'm Australian..... I have an '04 SV with 100,000 very hard km's.. still runs like a
    dream..LOTS of mods.. maybe lost 15kmh top speed... it's not gunna last forever, more to the point the gearbox won't last.... so... luckily i saw a '17 gen3 engine on ebay ,,, brand new with 12km on the clock ($700USD).. guy bought it brand new and binned it on the way home... Anyway.. I've got a pair of barrels bored to 84mm (694cc) with Wiseco 12:1 pistons... I'd like to shave the barrel to bring it up to 12.5... I'll be using the stock gen3 intake cam but I've read on the forums that a gen2 inlet is the go for the exhaust... I basically never rev the motor over 9,500... 10 running flat out top gear... basically run between 5 & 9 all day... (fast interstate road riding) What do you think ?..... Also, is is feasible-practical to alter cam timing on the 4 cams using stock press on sprockets or bit the bullet and get adjustables... What do you think ? PS: I've always run a 38mm oil pressure gauge and op hasn't changed since new... full GSXR K3 suspension F&R.. narrower wheels & tires 3" F & 3.5" R... 110/70 17 & 130/70 17 (steering & handling waaaaaay better...

      The original camswap was just 1st gen intakes on exhaust. Easy way to get more lift.
      2nd gen intakes came out and had even more lift, so you could use those on exhaust. 3rd gen intakes have even more lift. I think the best combo right now is 3rd gen intake on intake and 2nd gen intake on exhaust.

    Why are the number of teeth 6 on the front cylinder and only 3 on the rear?

    Hey there I am so confused, I looked at your pictures online, and I am doing the same mod, on the rear, from the 2 mark it’s 17 links not 16 ? When I put the cams at 16 links they look way off from your video or pictures, hope
    You can help

    Ok some how i messed up, now my bike wont start. I swapped 04 intake cams in 01. Front head 6 teeth to the left and Rear head 3 teeth to the left. It cranks then cranks faster but only coughes threw the intake.

    I followed this guide and did first gen intake on exhaust of second gen. Now I have another project and wondering if the gains would be similar to run second gen intake on second gen exhaust since I have a doner second gen heads. Would the markings be the same?

      Yup, exactly the same markings. Bit better performance going with the 2nd Gen intakes on exhaust over the 1st Gen intake.

      To get the lobes to line up correctly since its the Intake gear on the exhaust side.

      SFV intake on intake and 2g Intake on Exhaust.

    Great video. I do have a question though. For the front cylinder intake came the 1F seemed to line up with a tooth and then you said to go 6 valleys to the left, and you went 6 valleys to the left. On the back cylinder the 1F lines up with a tooth and you say to go 3 valleys to the left but you actually counted 1 valley to the right and then 2 to the left @1:55. Can you clarify if its 2 to the left of 1F or 3 to the left of 1F

      1 to the left of the 1F.

    I bought 1gn intake cams for my 2nd gen sv. Is 3rd gen intake on intake and 2nd gen intake on exhaust that much better or comparable? Do you know how much difference in power there is?
    And do you recommend changing the cylinder gaskets while changing the cams?

    • @LWTRACER
      @LWTRACER  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      3rd gen intake on intake and 2nd gen intake on exhaust would be your best combo. I dont know have an exact power difference.
      There is no need to chance gaskets unless you loosen the cylinder head studs.

    @LWT RACER : If I perform the 1g intaken on exhaust on my 2g SV, should I add a Power Commander or is this mod going to work on its own?

    • @colegg8029
      @colegg8029 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Anytime you do major exhaust, fuel, air, or cam modifications, the mixture needs to be adjusted. That cam let's the bike flow more air air out, which means to a degree more air in. More air in means you need more fuel, the bikes ecu assumes stock cam and can't adjust for such a large change. You need a new tune or new tunable ecu.

    what are the lobe centers of IN and EX when you do this?
    what do you think of overfilling oil with 1liter and dremel away some of the case on the oil pickup so it can take oil a bit further back?
    do you preffer 10w50 or 10w60 oil for a SV?

    • @LWTRACER
      @LWTRACER  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      lobe center changes depending on the cam because Suzuki doesn't press the sprockets on in the exact same spot each time. quality control isn't great. so sometimes you will get 108/101 the next will be 106/103.
      never bothered modifying the cases.

      @@LWTRACER the lobe centers that you talk about is from stock cams or intake placed on exhaust?
      i trying to look for the stock or a bit less TQ in low rpm and a little better mid range and way more top end.
      and so smooth as possible.
      so im thinkin of doing IN107 EX110.

    Best regards from Romania. Great vid. I am slowly doing everything I can find on LWT and what Zoran can suggest on his forum. BTW, I can get 2 Busa 83mm Wossner pistons very cheap and also the cylinder work for them, again very cheap (friends shop), do you think it is a good ideea ?...not going to tune it to more than 80 hp on the dyno with all the mods to try to keep it reliable for the street.

    • @LWTRACER
      @LWTRACER  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The problem with Hayabusa pistons is the angle of the valve pockets are different from the SV so you can run into clearance issues. You may not be able to get the ideal cam timing with those pistons. Or need pistons modified

    • @valiyzf600
      @valiyzf600 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LWTRACER thank's for the reply ! I think you are the first person to mention this...every forum thread anywhere (US and Europe) never mentioned it...only the combination of SV rings with Busa pistons because of the different cylinder liners.

      @@LWTRACER I'll bother you with one more tech question, since nobody in my country does anything to SV's : I noticed when I took the engine apart that the valves are coated, probably nitride ot TI or something like that.. How can I lap them when I refresh everything and put it back together ?...from what I know, coated valves are not ok for lapping. Or can I just get away with a very fine lapping paste and a very quick and light lapping just to clean the seats and valve ?

    • @LWTRACER
      @LWTRACER  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@valiyzf600 The rings are a concern (nikisil vs steel) but the valve pocket angles is bigger problem.

    • @LWTRACER
      @LWTRACER  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@valiyzf600 Use old valve. As long as it's the same valve, it should lap pretty close to what the new valve will. When I say same valve, i mean like both stock valves. not one stock and one aftermarket. That way angle is the same.
