First of all ,let me tell you that you have an excellent layout. And then I would like to express my gratitude because this is the best and simplest explanation about wiring Electrofrog turnouts that I've seen. This video is pure gold to me. DaveClass47 no doubt this is a fantastic video. It doesn’t account for how slow i am to pick stuff up. Ive just swopped from OO modelling where i used all insulfrog points to O gauge where im being forced to go elctrofrog. What is the minimum i need to do to enable me to get going as a dcc running system? Probably not fitting point motors either. Is it just the insulated fish plates?
This is the best video I've seen to explain this. A lot effort I reckon? When people ask me I'm going to send them here. With O gauge hand made point combinations you have to do this so you learn anyway. Coming back indoors into On30 / 0-16.5 I'm surprised even how many don't know the importance of the insulated joiners. Just to add ... if you attach flexible wire jumpers to the blades as well, the points will work for your lifetime. I only use electric frogs now on DCC. Don't tend to modify PECO, but with 3 ways and slips I think it's essential.
Always a brave person who tries to "easily" explain electro frog points! As I always run a dropper to EVERY piece of track, I use the bridging wire to add a dropper to the track bus as well. This powers the points and doesn't rely on a fishplate connection. You did a lot of work producing this video, thanks and well done.

Returning to the hobby after many years away and this has been invaluable to help me decide what to do with the electrofrog points I was advised to purchase. Thank you.
Finally understand the “mysteries” of the electro frog. Thanks Dave. I couldn’t install the motor under the baseboard because a support is in the way. I have, however, been able to make a surface mounted version by fitting it to the Hornby “hut” base and covering it with a Scalescenes Weighbridge hut. Also discovered I don’t need the insulated joiners because the points are routing the track into an engine shed and a turntable.
Excellent video. I have been using the peco point motors for over 30 years and never had a failure when used with a capacitor discharge unit however my experience of the polarity switch is not as good. Mine usually fail to work after about 5 to 10 years. Maybe I have been unlucky or expecting too much. For the last 2 years I have replaced them with a Hex Frog Juicer as they stop working. No failures yet. You simply disconnect the wiring from the peco polarity switch and use the same wiring the Juicer to the track.
Great to know it was of help to you. I’ve got a load of ‘how to’ videos on my channel. They might also be of help to you. Thanks for watching. Cheers. Dave

Excellent video! I had to modify my points in situ as they were glued and ballasted. I used a mini drill to cut the rails near the frog to isolate it. Much easier to modify them before you fit them!
You really are good at explaining things clearly Dave. Very good "how-to" on electro frog with DCC. The DCC part of my test track is set up this way, except I use seep motors with the built-in polarity switch. (The DC loop just uses Hornby set track points) Big thumbs up and I'll refer to this video when I finally get to start my real layout, hopefully early next year when we move house. Cheers
Many thanks for your clear explanations and instructions on this, I think that at last I understand how electro points work and also the polarity switch conversion, thanks again.
A great video that's made the black art of wiring points easy to understand and will use it as a reference for the build of my layout, I was going to use the '' hand of good '' before seeing this. Videos like this are a godsend. Cheers.
Wow this is good. Thank you for the help. I decided to stop using insulfrog because some of my steam locomotives would bridge the plastic of the frog and short. And as an added bonus electrofrog looks more prototypical.
This is fantastic video which explains things about electro points in a very concise manner. I have just purchased some Peco Uni frog points for my n scale layout and I am grateful for this tutorial. You have obviously done a lot of preparation in order to produce this video. Many Thanks
Best video I’ve found on the subject by far. Well done. All the videos over complicating or under explaining this should be removed! Hahaha. Thank you sir!
A brilliant video with simple, well explained instructions. I've referred back to this video on a number of occasions when wiring up electrofrog points. A big thank you. Cheers, Julian
I've shied away from using electrofrog points Dave as I, like many others it seems, was just bamboozled by it. Excellent video, easily explaining "how to". Thanks again!
EXCELLANT well done video showing all the "how to wire it". My layout is going to have 6 (yes 6) Peco Double Cross Overs going inbetween paralel tracks, motorised as well like you did for the above regular turnout....Can you make a video on how the Double Cross Overs are motorised and wired up. I sure would appreciate that if you could. Thanks
Hi, thanks got getting in touch and thank you so much for subscribing and watching my video :-) I’m thrilled you like my layout too. All the best. Dave
Hi, brilliant. Glad it helped you unpickle the electrofrog haha. I scratched my head about it for ages before the penny finally dropped. I think we are all like that to start with. Cheers. Dave
DC47, I've watched several now, and finally found yours. Very well done, extremely easy to follow and great narration of clarity and brevity! Thank you so much...very helpful. I've saved it as a favorite to refer to as needed.
Great video Dave as I have several to install and kept seeing various instructions to cut the links and modify etc but now you have shown its not necessary, will try them as is out of the box. Very helpful indeed. Thanks
Thanks Ben. I struggled to get my head around this for ages....so it can be a bit confusing. Glad you found it useful. Any questions, get in touch. Cheers. Dave
Great video Dave that will help me enormously as I wire up my turnouts for DCC. I see you have the same loft setup as me & wondered if you have the same problem as I did - constantly cracking my head on the roof trusses as I worked on the layout. I have found a neat solution! Simply buy some lengths of the heavier duty pipe lagging foam ‘tubes’ (from B&Q or elsewhere) and if you slit them lengthways you will find that they push-fit over your vertical roof trusses and provide a nice soft barrier. I only fitted mine a couple of weeks ago and have already lost count of the number of times they have saved me a sore head 👍
Hi, thanks! Yes I bare the scars of a few head collisions! Only once have I fallen to the group in pain, lol. A unavoidable hazard! Your foam idea sounds to have saved you a few scrapes! Cheers. Dave
Very helpful video I feel more confident about doing this to my layout N gauge.I do have problems with insulated points my shutter stops if going slowly over the insulated points so this is definitely the way forward.
Thank you for a fantastic explanation and making it seem a lot less daunting! I'm just starting out on my modelling journey so a lot of the terminology and techniques are having to be learned . Looking forward to the challenge of keyhole surgery with N-scale track ;)
Dave I've been bamboozled by point diagrams and videos for years since I started my first layout, so shied away from electrofrog altogether and stuck with insulfrog and the "hand of god." That's the first video I've watched that makes complete sense to me and, although I plan to use Hornby point motors with their accessory decoder to hook it all up to the Elite controller, I'm pretty confident I can do it now (famous last words!) Cheers for that. :)
Hi Dave, thanks for explaining of what I call the dark art of using and wiring electrofrog turnouts. My question is, when using the plastic insulated rail joiners, do the metal wheels of the locomotive bridge that tiny gap and cause a short circuit. Thanks for sharing your educational videos, great work. Cheers.....
Thanks Dave, I’m a new subscriber here and very happy to have found you. That video was very comprehensive, easy to understand and informative. I’ll certainly be visiting again to help me understand certain concepts as I’m about to embark on completing my model railway room ready to start building my railway, to be called Pevenbourne, later this year. Loved the train action interludes in your video too, very well done !
Hi Bryan, welcome aboard! Thanks for taking the time to get in touch and give me feedback. I am really glad you enjoyed and understood the video. I have a load of how to and scenic videos along with monthly updates, running sessions and regular product reviews. I hope you find them enjoyable and above all useful as you get stuck in about Pevenbourne. A great hobby isn't it? Can I ask, how did you stumble across Dean Park? ;-) I am so glad you did. Thanks again. Dave
Hi Dave, Absolutely, great hobby indeed ! I had a model railway many years ago in my parents loft. It was a different world back then in the mid-70s ! But one emerging thing that was exciting at the time was Hornby’s Zero 1 and I had a full setup of it with master controller plus three slaves. The modules were a bit flaky, but it was a great system, way ahead of its time and of course the predecessor of the amazing DCC that we have today. By early 80s, I discovered girls 😉 and inevitably that lead to the family years so the model Railways got packed away and have followed me from house to house through the years ! But I’m just four and a half years from retirement now and we’ve moved into a house which includes a room converted from an integral garage that will soon become a model railway room for me. Construction will commence in the next few months and will gain momentum as a retirement project. I “stumbled across” Dean Park thanks to a suggestion e-mail from TH-cam, presumably owing to my interest in other model railway videos, and like you, I’m glad I did as I look forward to watching more of your videos to bring me up to date for the technology available today. Best wishes.

Big thumbs up and I'll refer to this video when I finally get to start my real layout, hopefully early next year when we move house.
Cheers
Most useful video, clear and uncluttered explanations making it easy to apply. Thank you.
Thank you so much. As a beginner there is so much to learn and easy to get overwhelmed. This is so easy to follow 👍
Pretty much solved my entire issue with my new dcc project. Fantastic.
Thanks and I’m glad to hear you’ve solved your problem :-) cheers. Dave
Many thanks for your clear explanations and instructions on this, I think that at last I understand how electro points work and also the polarity switch conversion, thanks again.
Great! Glad it helped you. I wish this video was around when I was trying to get my head around it 😆
A great video that's made the black art of wiring points easy to understand and will use it as a reference for the build of my layout, I was going to use the '' hand of good '' before seeing this. Videos like this are a godsend. Cheers.
Wow this is good. Thank you for the help. I decided to stop using insulfrog because some of my steam locomotives would bridge the plastic of the frog and short. And as an added bonus electrofrog looks more prototypical.
Superb comprehensive explanation - many thanks!! Now I've got my head around it......
Eddie Stuart thanks ;-) great feedback. Dave
Excellent video Dave nicely explained easy to follow for any beginner 10/10👍
Excellent video, great recap on how and where to solder wires and modify the points
Excellent explanation, very helpful advice for a novice like myself. Your layout looks brilliant by the way.
Hi, thanks Jim.
Excellent video. I lile the short clips of the layout to break the description up. Thanks Dave
This is fantastic video which explains things about electro points in a very concise manner. I have just purchased some Peco Uni frog points for my n scale layout and I am grateful for this tutorial. You have obviously done a lot of preparation in order to produce this video. Many Thanks
Thanks for that amazing feedback. So glad you found it useful. Dave
very good video. I watch this every time i am going to do switches on the layout. just to make sure I don't forget something.
Did exactly that. Works a gem. Strange though they do not produce them like this ready to go.
Really great and simple explanation - thank you
Hi, glad you found it easy to follow :-) cheers.
Best video I’ve found on the subject by far. Well done. All the videos over complicating or under explaining this should be removed! Hahaha. Thank you sir!
Chad M hi, thanks :-) really glad it was of help! Good luck. Dave
A great video Dave, I’m looking at point motors on my new layout and find you always explain things clearly.
Will iam thanks, I’m very glad I could help :-) Dave
DaveClass47 the PL13s seem to be like rocking horse s@@t at the moment though!
One of the best if not the best explanation I have ever watched, you just gained another subscriber.
Bryant Frazer wow thank you. So glad you found it useful. And thank you so much for subscribing. Brilliant. Dave
Thanks for a clear and detailed explanation on a subject which has troubled me for a long time. 👍
Absolutely brilliant video Dave and explained with great simple explanation
Perfectly explained and very clear. I'm doing mine this weekend.
Great! Glad it was of help to you :-) Dave
Very easy to follow and informative tutorial mate. You can never watch these sorts of things too many times I think
Very clear and easy to understand, probably the best explanation I've seen so far now that I'm getting back into things a bit. Cheers 👍
A very clear and detailed video. Thank you very much!
My pleasure :-)
Excellent video. Thank you for taking the time to help. It has been saved to my favorite list.
A brilliant video with simple, well explained instructions. I've referred back to this video on a number of occasions when wiring up electrofrog points. A big thank you. Cheers, Julian
Thanks for that. :-) really glad you’re finding it easy to follow and useful. Makes my day when videos I do help others. Dave
Thank you very much for this clear and concise 'How to'. I now have a far better understanding.
Ancient Modeller that’s great to hear! Thanks for taking the time to get in touch. Dave
I've shied away from using electrofrog points Dave as I, like many others it seems, was just bamboozled by it. Excellent video, easily explaining "how to". Thanks again!
Excellent video that really helps me to understand. Thank you 😄
Great stuff Ray! Thanks
Just brilliant! Great video and superb explanation. Thank you very much for your efforts!
Thanks. Really glad you found it useful :-)
A bit late to the party as just getting into railway modelling fantastically informative upload well explained thanks
EXCELLANT well done video showing all the "how to wire it". My layout is going to have 6
(yes 6) Peco Double Cross Overs going inbetween paralel tracks, motorised as well like you did for the above regular turnout....Can you make a video on how the Double Cross Overs are motorised and wired up. I sure would appreciate that if you could. Thanks
Extremely clear and useful, thanks for sharing!
Very clear instructions on wiring the turnouts this has helped me a lot thanks very much from a new subscriber your layout is stunning 👍👍
Hi, thanks got getting in touch and thank you so much for subscribing and watching my video :-) I’m thrilled you like my layout too. All the best. Dave
brilliant, been pickled by this, until now, great guide!
Hi, brilliant. Glad it helped you unpickle the electrofrog haha. I scratched my head about it for ages before the penny finally dropped. I think we are all like that to start with. Cheers. Dave
What a great tutorial dave I always revert back to this video for a refresh 👍💯👍
Cheers. Glad it is helpful. One of my favourite ‘how to’ videos I’ve done so far.
DC47, I've watched several now, and finally found yours. Very well done, extremely easy to follow and great narration of clarity and brevity! Thank you so much...very helpful. I've saved it as a favorite to refer to as needed.
Bob TheSpiderHunter hi! Brilliant to hear. Thank you. I still refer to it myself from time to time lol. Cheers. Dave
Excellent tutorial Dave with great explanations Keep this coming🙏.
A superb tutorial, i have learnt a lot and now feel confident to wire all of my electrofrog points using your method.
Trevor Rodway cheers. It’s simple when you follow the rules of doing it. Good luck. Dave
Great video Dave as I have several to install and kept seeing various instructions to cut the links and modify etc but now you have shown its not necessary, will try them as is out of the box. Very helpful indeed. Thanks
paredding good luck with your points. Thanks for watching. Dave
Great vid mate!!! Helps alot!! Thanks from Australia :)
Hi, thanks. So glad you found it helpful. It’s great to hear my videos are useful. :-) cheers. Dave
Brilliant video. Thank you Dave. Very good timing for my layout!
Thanks Ben. I struggled to get my head around this for ages....so it can be a bit confusing. Glad you found it useful. Any questions, get in touch. Cheers. Dave
That is a priceless video and should be sponsored by PECO
Good luck! :-) glad you found the video useful. :-) cheers. Dave
Cheers.....
Hi. Thanks. Glad you found it helpful.
No wheels will come into contact with rails of opposing signal so it all works perfectly :-)
Dave
Hi Dave,
Absolutely, great hobby indeed !
Dave, That was crystal clear! Thank you very much. Regards Stephen.
Stephen Riley cheers, glad it was helpful :-) Dave
