They are fairly common on smaller machines from the bottom to the top these days. There’s a lot of benefits to it over traditional castings. But also some drawbacks that seem to limit it to more compact machine tools.
Nice view of X5, I'm glad I ended up with X7 though given extra table size with 4th on and also access to rear/right side of machine given my floor layout. A video of this show at lot more than any manual or sales diagram - thanks.
Thanks! Yeah everyone has different needs I guess. I think the X7 is Syil's bread and butter, but if your limited on space or just don't need the extra travel for one reason or another, the X5 is there. Also you get 20K RPM spindle, which is useful for those smaller tools. Thanks for your insight!
Thanks for sharing. This model has gotten my attention, especially now after Titans of CNC is into Syil as distributor. I like the design and layout of the newest Syil machines that seems to be more proffesional than older models from a few years back.
Thank you. I am considering getting one. The problem is the entrance to my workshop is 2.1 m high. So my question is, will I be able to fit the machine in?
A Very thorough presentation the manufacturer should do that it probably would help sales. You must have been great in school with show and tell haha! Good job👍
Thanks for taking the time to make this video, you have a new sub, be great to see more of what the machine can do considering the lack of contents in regards to it being a fairly new model in the line up
Yes I believe it is accurate. My garage door has clearance of 83.5in and it just barely fit through. I had to loosen the energy chains to get it through the door.
@@qdp03That's what I thought. I'm assuming you have single phase 220 in your garage, stepped up to 380 by the transformer supplied with the X5. I didn't see a phase converter in your shop, how are you getting three phase to the machine?
Yes. It needs 3 phase 220v to feed the transformer here in the US. I have an American Rotary phase converter on the other side of the shop that feeds the disconnect switch I showed in the video.
Awesome, thanks for doing this! I'm also thinking of getting an X5 in the near future. Could you share some details on your phase converter / transformer setup? I heard from the sales people that in can run on single phase, but it reduces the HP from 10 to 4. And any troubles/challenges/tips for getting the machine moved into place in your garage? Did you hire riggers?
Sure! I'm running a American Rotory Phase converter AD20. Its more than I need for this machine but it gives me some extra capacity if I want to add another machine later. The transformer came with the machine which converts the 3phase 220V to 3phase 420-450V I'm not sure if the machine with Syntec 22MA control would run on single phase, I don't believe so, but I believe the LNC controller does. The machine is very heavy. You will need at bare minimum a 6000lb capacity forklift with 6ft forks. I move it myself, with some help, but if you're not comfortable moving really heavy things I would hire it out. One wrong move would be a disaster. Hope that helps
Its dependent on the size of the phase converter you would be using. If you have 3 phase power supplied from the utility company, I believe it would need a 30A breaker, but I would verify that with SYIL before doing any electrical work.
I haven't machined A-2 or D-2 steel yet. You're not going to get the same performance as a 20hp machine but with the right cutting parameters I would expect it handle it with no problems. So far, I've machined, 1018, 4140, SS440, SS304, 6061, 7075 with no signs of any issues.
So sorry about that. I can't correct the video without uploading a new one, so I noted the corrections with time stamps in the description. Thanks for letting me know!
I'm not sure, they are covered up pretty good (can't see them). The Specification in the manual call out Linear bearing rail dimension of 20mm, 25mm, and 30mm for X, Y, and Z respectively. If you need more details, I would reach out to Syil.
I remember researching epoxy granite for machine bases back in 2010. Glad to see someone who has figured it out!
Oh wow that is cool! Yes the frames on the Syil is made by Scheenberger, it’s nicely made and very heavy

Thank you. Will this machine fit underneath a 2.1m door? My workshop is high enough inside but the entrance might be a problem.

Yes, It's a high-quality machine with quality components.

What did that setup cost? Great walk through!
Thanks I appreciate the feedback. With delivery, taxes and some basic tooling it was around 35K
How many inches tall is it with the spindle at maximum height?
It gets to about 95" when it does a tool change. The energy chain are slightly above the spindle so that measurement is to the chains.
@@kowalskprecison thanks!

Thanks a lot! Yeah, there's not that much out there on the X5, so I hope this is helpful for any looking at an X5

Thanks for the comment and sub! I have a bunch of ideas for more videos on it, and a video involving some chips flying is in order 😉
Nice detailed walkthrough Greg!
Thanks, I really appreciate your feedback!
Nice videos! Would be nice to see a complete part getting milled and maybe also a bit of the programming workflow. Get some chips rollin!
Thanks, I appreciate the comment and suggestions! Yes I’m definitely planning some videos with actual machining, can’t wait to get those videos out!
Is the height from the spec sheet accurate? My garage has a fairly low height at the door and I’m not sure if I can fit a Syil in there.
Yes I believe it is accurate. My garage door has clearance of 83.5in and it just barely fit through. I had to loosen the energy chains to get it through the door.
Do you not need a phase converter? Ciao, Marco.
These are three phase only

@@kowalskprecison thanks for the response, I’m interested to know which size you’re using on the breaker tied to the phase converter itself.
You mention that the travel of the x-axis is 580mm. Is this accurate?. I have a sales leaflet in front of me saying that the X-axis travel is 300mm
excellent video. thanks

What is the name of the exercise stand on this machine?
How do you think it would machine A-2 D-2 tool steel? I do die work.

Willing to share the warm up program you have there?
Yes, for sure I could share that. Maybe I can add the file to my website and anyone that's interested could download it for free.
Hello I have a small welding shop. I want to invest on a cnc milling machine. The price for the machine is great
Hey. just a FIY, your conversions to metric are completely off.
X Travel: 300 mm
Y Travel: 260 mm
Z Travel: 300 mm
Awsome
Thanks for the video. FYI your metric measurements are not correct.

Cast iron Kitamura Mycenter0 for me, don't like epoxy concrete and linear rails on hobby machine.
