    Thank you for watching and for sharing your experience, Donnie. I'm relieved to hear that the feeling did eventually return to your left thumb.

    Hello Olly, thank you for posting this video, after a long search I have finally come across my Excalibur, a gently used Makita LS1013 it is in excellent condition just the rails are slightly gummed up and it needs the original blade sharpened, this video was very helpful in both of these areas , cheers, Mark Vancouver , British Columbia Canada.

      +Mark from WestCoastWoodcraft Hello Mark and thank you very much for watching as well as for your comment. I'm very pleased to hear that you're also highly satisfied with this saw. It's been a trade favourite in the UK for a while. All the best. :-)

    Thanks, Lester. I'm glad you found the video to be useful.
    Yes, that is also one of my vital tips - I feel daft for having neglected to mention it in the video!
    Take care and stay aware. :-)

    Very good video. I found you because I am shopping for a good, used Makita LS1013, and I'm glad I watched what you had to say.

      +Teri G Thank you, Teri, I do appreciate that and also hope you find an LS1013 of your own. They are excellent saws and a real trade favourite. :-)

    I has an experience at work last year where I spent a ten hour day deburring small steel bars on a dedicated deburr machine. You had to push down hard to make the deburred edge smooth. After ten hours of this my left thumb went numb and stayed numb for almost three months. Feeling did come back but it did concern me. Some operations at work or in the work shop are not worth the risk. Hope your numbness goes away.

    Thanks, Mick! Go for it and let us know how you get on in your own video! ;-)
    I saw another great video earlier where someone makes an MDF base to replace the one on their cheap mitre saw - it appeared as a 'related video' alongside my own.

    Hi. I have a Makita LS1013 also but the positive stops on the mitres have become loose and move slightly even when locked into place, giving me some slight discrepancy on the degree of cut. Have you any idea how I can make the stops more positive to make the cuts accurate?

    Olly, thanks for yet again another informative video. I happen to have that same saw and hadn't really thought about disassembling the slide to maintain them, now I will. Not sure what 'white spirits' are called in the US. What do you use to clean the blade?

    • @OllyParryJones
      @OllyParryJones  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Richard Marton Thank you, Richard and you're welcome. I think acetone is similar to white spirit but you could also use turpentine. I used to use those 'blade cleaner' sprays you can buy but soaking the blade in oven cleaner (in a bowl) always gave the very best results.

    Great video 👍
    I have a question.
    What lube would you recommend to put inside the bearing carrier?
    Also would a fine steel wool be ok to remove a slight bit of rust off the rails?

    • @OllyParryJones
      @OllyParryJones  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your comment. :-)
      I favour a dry lubricant, like dry PTFE spray. Silicone and oil will usually attract sawdust and make a mess.
      Yes, I'm sure that a fine great would help without causing any damage.
      I hope this helps and thanks for watching.

      One more question, if you don't mind. Is there any chance of the ball bearings falling out of the carrier?

    • @OllyParryJones
      @OllyParryJones  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your question.
      I honestly can't remember the set up clearly - if I haven't done it then it's probably not worth worrying about. ;-) I've done some daft things with machinery in my time...
      If in doubt, just take it steady and step back from it when you need to.
