Kamikoto was previously exposed as a scam company. The knives are made cheaply in China from assorted alloys. Their parent company is the same one that sells the fake Lord/Lady titles.
i was about to comment this, so im gonna like your comment for exposure
I never heard of these knifes and now I do, thanks to Ninjon. I also know they're a scam thanks to your comment, so I guess that in some twisted way it's actually a great outcome for everyone involved. Except Kamiko-something, of course 😉
@@michalm86they were advertised by creators all across TH-cam not all that long ago. Several people did some deep dives on the company and exposed that basically everything about the knives is a lie. 100% scam.
lmao is that the one where you supposedly buy a tiny square foot of land that you couldnt even fit a toilet on in Scotland lmao?
@@reddragon4482 yes
Ah, some of my favorite kind of Ninjon content. No frills, just painting a thing and talking about the process. Always feel like I learn something. Good stuff!
The scam-sponsored kind?
@@camojoe83 Who cares who the sponsor is?
We all know they are just reading a script and collecting a paycheck. Nothing wrong with that. And if it helps brings us more videos like this, all the better.
@@tay13666 as a knife snob, this affects me directly.
dear Ninjon - as always, i absolutely adore your content! you are my favorite miniatures painting channel on youtube. how ever, i was very disappointed to see you took a kamikoto sponsorship. even if their knives are good, they are not made in japan and they are not made with japanese steel. i fully understand that sponsors are needed for great content such as this to be made, but hearing you straight up lie to us still left me a little bit sad, especially in light of my great admiration of you and your content.
regards, Arvid.
Nothing wrong with the knives; they're worth about $20 in a set from your local market. Their marketing is complete scam though.
My mother found my old tau army it’s been in her garage for 15 years, I too am now repainting old unfinished models. They were painted by hand I was such a peasant back then
I thought people would remember that Kamikoto knives are a scam?
Find the Thai made 'kiwi' knives. They're like 12 bucks and soooo fricking good. I'm a chef/butcher and don't bother with expencive shite anymore
Yep, cheap chinese knives marketed as "japanese traditional knives". Pure fake and scam. There are lots of videos about that brand on here. I thought they'd stopped trying to scam us when they got exposed a while back but no. Guess some youtubers dont care where the sponsormoney comes from. Boo Ninjon!
This was probably recorded when it wasn't known
@@bumblesquatt It was years ago. Same company is behind them as was in the "become a Scottish laird" scam. To my embarrassment one of the people in it is a Finn. I have this recollection that it was even an actually Finnish company.
A TH-camr who doesn't properly vet their sponsors because they need a payday? I'm shocked. Shocked I say! /s
I legit thought that the ad was a skit for too long. It looked like he just put some knives in an artus opus box!
Neither Jon nor I are lore nerds, but it does make me chuckle a little bit to see his Nurgle Demon Prince covered in Marks of Khorne
O thats simple to understand Mortal. You see its a reminder of what path not to go, for Father Nurgle is the true blessed one should follow.
You could say he was branded by a bloodthirster during a battle I gues
Its never too late to change, sven for daemons. Nurgle is forgiving brother.
12:00 I make a picture of the model next to all the paints I have used so it's easier to pick it back up later. I do this for finished and unfinished models.
Seriously, this why I subscribed to this channel. Making an amazing paint job while breaking down the steps and acknowledging mistakes with overwhelming positivity.
Yay, Kamikoto is back... So Scottish laird company's back in public.
Bro the chair turn in the intro gets me every time. 💀💀
Damn that music fade in at 2:00 worked really well. Great editing.
Got to say I just started something different. In the 90's and early noughties I painted a stack of Orks pertinent to the style of the day. A few weeks ago my lad went on a building frenzy and I wound up with a Combat box of Orks plus an older Start Collecting. I have begun to paint and I'm using the colour scheme from back in the day. But from what I have learned watching your videos I am applying thinner coats and using the natural shadows of the model rather than reflecting on OSL. I am not doing the modern bright Ork skin but your techniques have let me produce the first batch in the original style minus the satin finish that came out of the original paint job. Many thanks for the satisfaction I now feel.
Welp, today I learned John is the savior of all things unfinished until one gets a proper full sleeve…damnit
Ok hands up as soon as Jon said Buttocks went Ferris 😅😅😅
Gradey-ation is key.
I always wear two thin coats while painting. It's what's recommended, I hear. Windbreakers work best. They keep the curry and jerky farts well-contained.
I like these recent videos on revisiting older painted models. I have several models I did years ago when I wasn’t as experienced. I want to go back and make a few improvements and not have to think about stripping them and completely restart.
I did this with my Ghazghkull, which was the first mini I painted getting back into the hobby after almost 20 years. I had just learned of Contrast paints and I didn't really know how to properly use them yet so I just slapped a bunch on and called it a day. Tide marks ensued. I also had bugger all for proper lighting so I ended up leaving a bunch of hard to reach spots unpainted because I just didn't have enough light to catch those spots. And even the base didn't match what I started doing for the rest of my army.
So after getting better with the painting I was always a bit bummed that the grand warlord wasn't as good as he could be. So fixing him up (which only took a couple hours) really made me feel good about having him in the done pile and now makes me smile when I look at him in the cabinet. What I did was some edge highlighting, fixing the tide marks, repainting the base and adding a bit of grass, just literally applying paint to those nooks that I had missed the first time and a couple quick dags and checkered patterns. Being so happy with Ghaz's glow-up, I also ended up finishing Makari, who had been in varying states of WIP for far too long.
I highly recommend returning to a model if you're genuinely unhappy with it. Just don't go crazy with it! There's no reason to redo all your Boyz for the seventh time from scratch just because you're not 100% happy with that one shade of yellow. I mean if your pile of shame is empty and you've nothing else to spend your time on, then sure, knock yourself out, but let's face it, everyone has *something* in their pile of shame, right?
I have a rule of not repainting stuff until i run out of unpainted stuff but this wasnt finished so i guess thats ok :) it turned out well in the end
Funny you say that--I have a Privateer Press Extreme Carnivean mini that I painted a long while ago (I don't recall when) that I painted up like an Alien 3 Xenomorph. It was as good as I could get at the time and it still looks pretty nice, but now? This makes me want to go back to it and see how I can punch it up some, now.
Dark Plum/deep purple tones and greens is my favourite combo recently too. Such a wierd but nice to look at combination!
Loved this video, great job on that mini, loved seeing how you punched it up from its 5 year old state. The Dirty Down moss on the bones was a spicy choice and it totally paid off. Thank you for all you do, you've definitely made me a better painter over the last couple of years of my hobby progress
Loved this video! Not enough content discusses finishing halfway projects 🙌🏻
Just when I think I’m out…
My girlfriend’s son wanted to try 40K. After being “out of the game” for 20yrs (god I’m old) we are trying Combat Patrol. A buddy turned me on to your videos and I’ve learned more after watching a dozen than I ever knew. Now I’m starting from your beginning. Keep up the great work and THANK YOU for reigniting an old passion.
I was the same, even watched these for too long before finally picking up a brush. Can you imagine having these resources back then? Loving being back in it and these creators brought back my excitement for the hobby.
Keep at it, maybe someday we’ll be as good as Daryl.
Another big brain video! I randomly started applying a purple contrast pint in the recesses of my green Tyranids, and it did wonders ❤
Excellent painting on a rather goofy monster!
Selling those door to door garbo knives. Love it.
Those nurgle wings are super easy with oil paint. I use a light blue acrylic underpaint and a vibrant purple oil over it and remove with a makeup sponge. Super quick and you pick up all those little ridges and pits.
Also adding my voice to the enthusiasm about this type of content. Great overarching principles that can be applied to any mini! Thanks for making this video.
Love the work ! only critizism i have is the Khorne symbols :(
Great video. This is what I’m doing now and it feels great to finish some models on the shelf.
I always loved using Ard coat on my nurgle models
I enjoy you promoting painting for fun and focusing on improving yourself
Love the vid! Very cool seeing you go back to and old project!
A really great result!
Always fun to watch.
Man this is INCREDIBLE!!! I'm working on Fabulous Bill's skincoat right now and the back and forth glazing is REALLY testing my "skills"...
Man, I've tried to paint one of these things twice. My small brain just can't figure out what part is supposed to be the face!
This turned out amazing!
Thanks so much! You are teaching me more than any other painter on youtube. I really appreciate it!!!! Have a great day!
I love how I can watch any of your tutorials, and always learn something, even if it's not what the point of the tutorial was. That was actually the best definition of overbrushing I've seen. Now I need more minis to try using the opposite color as a shadow color! And as a knifemaker, I have to ask why it takes them years. (Let's ignore the saber I've been working on since I was 17--about 34 years)
I wouldn't recommend using the opposite color, the transitions can get really muddy or dull grey, because opposite colors cancel each other out. Try going to the sides in the color wheel. If your main color is blue put a little purple in the shadow. If your main color is yellow, go with orange. And so on.
Killing it.
Love your vids.
Weekly(ish) highlight. Thanks Jon!
Love this! Great video 📸
I like to slay the gray while I watch your videos, so please keep 'em coming!
Your videos are amazing I love watching them. I even went back and watched the older videos. Video idea! I would love to see how you would paint The Great Unclean one mini. But again love the videos keep them coming. ❤
stunning work as always from Jon
Always a great watch
I moved houses recently and therefore I handled/checked a lot of my old, painted models (putting into/out of boxes) and the one thing that struck me was that almost all of my models, though not necessarily badly painted, were lacking in colour depth/contrast. I've always been to afraid to really push the highlights/shades. If 1 is the darkest and 10 is the brightest I used to be tightly around 5-7, which doesn't show up from beyond 20 cm away. It's nice to see this thing pointed out :)
Really enjoyed this video! Great job!
Keep up the great work Jon, always most excited to see you update! That daemon prince is metal as hell!
I have a large green wyrm I am wanting to finish. This video definitely helped pushing me into doing that! As always a great video!
i like the surprise sleeve
I used the same model to make DG demon prince for a friend. It's a great mold to use for any big beastie.
Awesome video my dude!
This was great!
Solid work boss!
Oh yeah. Most of my projects are partially completed. Nice to see your process to complete something from longer ago than you could remember the paint recipes.
Shading purple for green was the first real amazing thing I stumbled on as a miniature painter.
Great stuff friend 👏 👍
Wow 😮 I think that’s one of the best painted models I’ve seen from you dude!
Just the vid I needed, advice on fixing a flat big model. Thank you :)
Hell yes. This is awesome.
Nurgle/Khorne army would be cool combo
Great video, badass model (the original and your sick kitbash)
Dude, this looked so damn good. Well done
Good video. In the spirit of a different green, id love to see you paint some more orks. Maybe as your 40k army if the tyranid lose your attention.
Hey Ninji.. I just wanted to say I've been watching you for years man. You're overwhelming positivity is outstanding and you better keep that shit up man.
I always like the Korgis, and this Nurgley one is no exception. I love how you made the mouth elbow thing match the tentacle hand mouth thing. Well done! This is a great video idea - you should do more backlog revisits.
Now if GW would only give them a KEYWORD that makes them useful! Mortal?, Monster? Daemon? nope its none of these things, its just Korgorath and forget it.
Dammit Ninjon. Now I need to reapint my poxwalkers because the plum shadow on green looks fracking amazing!
Just Wow!!
Awesome model
*model has multiple giant Khorne symbols on the torso*
Jon: Yep, perfect for Death Guard.
I'm no gamer model type but i love you're videos. Very entertaining. If only the aircraft scale modellers were as entertaining as you 👍
I have a Great unclean one 1 wash and a little rust away from being done... I have said I should finnish him for like 6 months
thats pretty damn cool man.
Love a good glow up.
I always know it's going to be a good video when you get your plums out
So my big question (and problem with the original Khorgorath model).... why no additional "pop" of color where the eyes would be?
Like isn't the focus of the model (and again, not so much an issue with the conversion, but with the core model) that there is too much going on with all the different heads/jaw/bone/skull/extra skull... like don't we as humans "look" for the eyes as a focal point?
So would giving this thing glowing eyes make it just pop one step more?
Or on something like this (larger model) is it not as necessary? Thoughts?
tattoo is lookin good, bro!
Nice!
*stares at my triceratops Kaiju model with loathing
You this was a sic vid man. Keep up the good work.
interesting that a daemon prince of Nurgle is covered in symbols of Khorne 🤔 haha
The Korgorath is one of the coolest models GW makes, nice to see one painted up 👌
Yup! I was always surprised at the lack of TH-cam live for it.
what brush & size are you using in this video? i've been searching far and wide for a long bristled brush with a sharp thin point like that
When are you gonna paint a titan of any type?? Love to see that
i think i wanna create a VTT token from this beast and use as a custom undead monster for D&D :D
So what color would the shadows be on a red model? I don’t think green would look right. Blue?
Umm can you try hydro dipping stuff and leaves as armour on Tyranids?
Hey there. Have tried or considered trying any of the revopoint 3d scanners? I really wonder if they would be good for miniatures. And since you are in both worlds i recon your Insight would be valuable
I was waiting to see you cut a mini into pieces with the sponsor knives.
Bless you, you beautiful man, you
Anyone know what the dragon model on the top shelf of his display case/computer background is?
Du you have a video of you painting the dragon on the computer
Jon, you've really got to fire that advertising agent!
Does anyone the name of the music used at the final shots of the mini?
the song at 6:13 does anyone know the name? Soundhound just gives me false results.
What Model is this and where can i get it??? This mini is so cool 🥰🥰
New rule: Jon has to say 'butt-ocks' in every video from now on...
Great job, dude!
What do I use as a shadow if the opposite on the color wheel is a warm color like yellow instead 9f a cool color like purple?
shadows can be warm, no? some darker yellow like Japanese Brown from AK, or a dark khaki like Zandri Dust/Steel Legion Drab from citadel or Leather Brown from Green Stuff World might work? 🤷👍
@@MisterTingles we'll give it a shot
I wouldn't recommend using the opposite color, the transitions can get really muddy or dull grey, because opposite colors cancel each other out. Try going to the sides in the color wheel. Yellow with orange shadows looks awesome.
