Thank you for the repair video, and the break down of the part needed. Only advice I can add is to FULLY defrost your freezer before installing this, don't just clear the ice from the tray and bottom of the freezer. It works, but if the lines aren't completely defrosted and clear of ice the problem will persist even though the fix works.

I love the video. I have had a repair man here two time to fix my leaking freezer in the last 6 months. I always watch the repair man to see what they do. they never got it fixed. So I thought that I could do in myself, I saw your video it looked so easy. The one thing that the repair person did not do was the plug in the back and didn't declog the drain. So I did it took me 3 hour because of all of the ice to melt. It's been 3 months and no water on the floor. thanks keep up with these great video

Our technician installed the duct bill rubber cap that is already on your refrigerator. He removed it to clean out the drain and then reinstalled it. It’s a rubber cap that stretches over the drain and has a slit in it for water to get out, but moisture and humidity cannot get in. There are updated kits for some of the units also. I recommend you watch this video to see the new design kit Whirlpool just came out with. Call our parts department at 1-800-830-5465 to see if your unit’s model fits this new kit. Have your model number ready when you call. If this kit fits it wit will correct your problem permanently. Here is the video link Whirlpool Refrigerator Repair - Ice build up in the bottom freezer - GX5FHDXVQ02 Good luck with your repair.

The directions in the video were perfect! The only thing I would add is that to possibly make this fix a little more permanent is to use a 12- or 14-gauge copper or alumimum wire that hooks around the coil and then extends inside the drain hole until it is about 1 inch below the opening of the drain behind the fridge. The plumber was able to wrap around the coil once and then pass it through the drain where I could feel it. We then cut the wire until it was 1 inch or so below the rubber cup that covers the drain behind the fridge. From what I have read, when the coil heats up as part of the defrosting process, the heat will help melt the ice in the drain so that it does not freeze up again. I don't know much about the new kit that is available through appliance video, but I would think it would have a similar effect as described above. I just did this today. If it doesn't work, then I will be back to post here.
Florida Great information, they do make a conductor kit that is exactly what you are talking about. That is only for problem drains that plug up more than once . Thank you for your positive comment. Our refrigerator already had the rubber duck bill but the drain tube was solid ice. The turkey baster worked well but took a while to melt all that ice.
Great complete explanation of getting the job done ..... love it! I'll go to Appliance Video FIRST next time...... I'll be looking into getttng the repair kit so it doesn't happen again. I'll call first to see if it fits my Maytag MFI2569VEQ Model.

Mine also leaked on my wood floor that was only installed 3 months ago THANKS MAYTAG for another crappy Fridge. Like I have the tools to take apart the whole bottom of a fridge to unplug something that shouldn't plug up to start with. Give me an old fashioned tray underneath that I can see and empty if it needs it.
Candy Sweet I would try to call Maytag and see if the will put the new drain kit on at no charge, they will do that still even if the unit is out of warranty. Here is my situation. About every 3-4 days there is water on my floor on the left of my Maytag refrigerator. I have removed the backing of my fridge, and there is no water, it is dry. My water line for ice maker is on the opposite side, and I checked to see if maybe the water was somehow coming from there, and it isn't. I have had the backing off for about a week to hopefully see where the water may be coming from. I am not sure if it is coming from underneath or not, but I am thinking somehow it is. I don't know where to go from here. Thanks.

I called Maytag Regarding the leak on MFI2269VEM model.
