Quite possibly the best how-to video I've seen: lists tools needed, explains why and how, shows every step, gives tips on reassembly, summarizes what was done. Brilliant. Considering the closest manual I could find on Kenmore for "my" fridge "mentions" drips could come from the drain tray (where? how do I get at it?) from autodefrost (really? how can I tell if that's working correctly or even installed on mine?) and there's no way I'm bringing repair guy in during the pandemic, you just showed me how this works and how to trouble-shoot and cure it. Thank you!!!

Thanks for a great video. I took the back panel off, pulled the p trap off , within 5 minutes water was coming from the drain hole. I blew out the p trap with compressed air, problem solved. The p trap comes out easy as it is connected to the drain hole with a o ring, just pull down. Thanks again .

saved me a ton of money, I had the same drain plugged issue only mine was styro foam beads I assume that came from packing material that got left in the freezer but I blew out the p trap with compressed air and then flushed with warm water as you suggested and I'm back in business with my 10 year old whirlpool.
Thanks for posting this. It was a great help. I was convinced that my Duckbill grommet was clogged, but it turned out it was wide open (letting lots of warm humid air into the freezer). So I made my own trap using a loop of vinyl tubing.

Super helpful video. Thank you! I didn't have to replace the drain tube but it was totally plugged up. Our model looked a little different when I opened up the back but after watching / listening I felt pretty comfortable about the whole thing....took a long time with clean up and everything but the tube is clear. No more stepping in a puddle every day! (I had No trouble understanding the man even with the hiccups. I think he handled that situation very well)

I have similar Kenmore. Ref part started freezing food, then a few days later I saw water on ref shelves. Long story short, removed ice maker, removed back panel of freezer (may have to defrost ice a bit to free it), and then saw ice buildup in drain tray and over drain tube. Removed back of refrig to see drip pan. Then in the freezer part, used hair drier and poured hot water on the ice to melt it. Soaked water run off with towel. Continued until water flowed down drain tube. Checked in the drain pan to see the water. THEN from what I saw on another video, added an 18 gauge cooper wire apox 12" long to the lower heating element. There are two elements, one on top of the cooling fans and one on the bottom. These heat up during the defrost cycle to melt ice. Water drips into the drain tray and down the drain tube. Careful when working around the fans, they bend easily and cut fingers even easier. Looped one end of wire on the left side of the lower defrost element Then looped the other end on the right side of the lower element while shaping the cooper wire down to but not touching the drain tray (C shape). This should put heat right over the drain tray and tube to help melt any ice buildup. ALSO from what I read about one of the causes of this ice build up in the freezer, warm moist air rises in the drip tube, meats the cold freezer air, and the moisture freezes up in the drain tube causing the ice dam. So I purchased two small elbow tubes and a worm clamp. Using pipe tape, connected the two elbows into a U shape and added them to the bottom of the drip tube. Use pipe tape and clamp to secure to the bottom of the tube. When water drips from the freezer, some of it stays in the U and prevents warm moist air from rising to the heater. Similar to the U shape in plumbing to keep sewer gases out of the house. QED so far.

I have the exact side by side and it’s leaking just like this. I defrosted and cleaned the entire fridge. Looks nice inside but still leaks I’m going to attempt to fix it tomorrow morning. The hiccups kept me watching. Thanks for the vid.

My refrigerator already had the new design drain tube, but it was plugged up with I don't know what. I removed the tube and cleaned it out completely with a small bottle brush and ran hot water through it. The video did help me figure out what to do.

@@williamjordan3584 Even the new design gets plugged up, that was my problem as well as several other's. I would start with taking a look at your existing tube for a blockage. Otherwise you can get the model number of your fridge from inside the fridge part. You can use that to google for replacement parts.
Hey thanks for the info. This really helped me a lot. Keep up the good work, I really appreciate. I don't know if you have or not, I've look but cannot find on info where ice maker not making ice. At least a step by step video to figure out what wrong with it. Thanks.

great video and very well explained this will help me tremendously now my I am looking for a video that can help me find out why my refrigerator stoped making Ice
When the freezer goes into defrost mode the water goes to pan under fridge. Is it possible enough water could accumulate that it could overflow passing through an adjoining wall into another room. I just had some serious water seepage into my bedroom and after a plumber inspected for 3 hours looking for leaks none could be found. The flooded area was about 4 foot in diameter.

Phil Young I have the same problem with the water, but I have the tube with p trap. My problem is that the grommet that the tube goes into was not installed correctly from the get go. Can that grommet be replaced because after years of not being installed correctly, it is deformed and plugs up easily.

I got a new P trap tube on line & it was one pain in the ass to install. The ring around the top of the p trap was to fat to go into the grommet. I had a hell of a time making that ring smaller to fit into the grommet. I just don't get how keeping water held in the p trap is going to help it drain better.

Had to replace water inlet valve (MFP 10217917) for KitchenAid stand alone ice maker model # KUIC 15 PLTS because of water leak, but was unfamilar with how to change the two water lines to the inlet valve. found answer on TH-cam. The plastic water lines are release by pushing the yellow collar toward the valve and simultaneous pulling the tube away from the valve. Install tube by pushing all the way in. Pull back to seat it. Veryconvenient!

My Kenmore refrigerator started leaking water on the floor last night. I wiped it up and there was more water again this morning. Hopefully this is the the problem. Have not pulled it out yet but was able to get a little look from the front and see the drain pan. Looks like it's completely dry and assume the drain is clogged.
I discovered I have a different problem and it's not related to the drain tube. There is a water line coming out of the pump for the ice maker that is leaking. I can see it leaks when the pump is on while refilling the ice tray. There is an elbow joint on the line and there is a crack on it where the water is coming out. There was no ice on or around the condenser and the drain tube is clear. That's not the issue for the leaking. Looks like I need a new line to fix it.

@@Appliancevideo Already fixed it. I heard this particular Kenmore model had a problem with that elbow cracking. I ended up cutting it off but had to purchase a coupler that accommodates two different sizes of water lines since the water line that went into the elbow was a larger diameter, and would not fit into the water valve that controlled the ice maker. The coupler allowed me to reduce the line size to fit into the valve. Easy repair and was able to salvage most of the existing water line. Glad there is no more leak and it only cost about $7 to repair it.
My Kenmore side by side is visually leaking from the back where the translucent line goes into the top of the freezer. What could this be? I recently had issues with low and high water pressure.

I have a very similar refrigerator... mine has the drain pan filling with water (and ultimately over flowing) every few days... I have cleaned condenser coils and checked the lower part of the drain (the piece which is removed in this video) I was thinking I had it fixed because it seemed to last a little longer but alas I still got water in floor and a full pan. I have the icemaker water supply turned off to eliminate that but I am still not finding the problem. It has to be ice melting off the evaporator but I suppose it could be the switch that turns the auto defrost on... Any ideas?

My fridge is a kenmore very similar to this one. Water will drain onto my freezer floor every 5-7 days or so. The drain pan never freezes or accumulates water, however. I pull the ice off the freezer floor, and it's good for another 5-7 days. Because of this, I'm thinking it's something other than the drain tube. Any suggestions?

Another helpful vid, thanks! However, I don't think this will solve my problem but I could be wrong. My drain pan underneath is overfilling with water and onto my floor. The other day I remember hearing drops of water dripping underneath the fridge. What I assume I was hearing is water dripping onto the drain pan. Any suggestions?

For some damn reason I just simply love it I feel like he's part of my family and he's telling me the truth about the refrigerator
Wanna wait bro..a drink of water,a jump scare maybe...
Him:no no ..keep shooting
QED so far.

Where do I purchase revised drainage tube?
😮
@@williamjordan3584 Even the new design gets plugged up, that was my problem as well as several other's. I would start with taking a look at your existing tube for a blockage. Otherwise you can get the model number of your fridge from inside the fridge part. You can use that to google for replacement parts.

@@Appliancevideo whats the part number for this drain tube?
should have started over after hiccups
Real time in customers house no second takes unfortunately.
I had a blast watching it, and better yet I think you may have solved my problem! We're all just human :)
Phil Young I have the same problem with the water, but I have the tube with p trap. My problem is that the grommet that the tube goes into was not installed correctly from the get go. Can that grommet be replaced because after years of not being installed correctly, it is deformed and plugs up easily.
Ignore the comments. The hiccups are classic!!
NO! This was prefect! Lightened my entire problem AND I fixed it! 😂😂😂
hey how did you get the drain tube to push all the way in so that the round ridge doesent show. if you can get back to me asap that would be awsome

Hello, what is the part number for the replacement drain tube shown in the video. I have tried two parts distributors with no luck. They try selling me a redesigned tube that is black and has a different profile than the one shown, but its not for my fridge. Any help here would be great!

How does warm air cause an ice blockage?
We just bought a house and had only plugged in the fridge to make sure we heard it cut on and then immediately unplugged it. This was during our final walk through. Still have not plugged it in but it keeps having a puddle come out at bottom on the floor.
