You can also do it with clip studio paint. Speaking from experience you might have to finagle the brush a bit but once you get it down all you'll have to do is some minor clean up
i don’t do that because it’s kinda annoying to do, so i just lift the paper towards the window or lamp to see through the paper. (ig this just doesn’t work on canvases or thicker paper)
I’m sure this has already been commented, but the problem with Tip #5 is that it’s not explaining what it’s suppose to be doing, so people don’t apply it properly. The “technique” is a crass way of cheating the color zones of the face. Blue indicating where facial features are more sunken in or less fleshy, red being the fleshy parts, and yellow being the more protruding facial features that catch more light. If you paint those areas that way, switch it to soft light or whatever, play with opacity till they act like a tint, the skin tone will look more lively and colorful. The gradient circle was some hack that caught on and people started using it because it looked cool. Again, it’s a cheap version of what it’s suppose to be, but as long as the artist is having fun I guess.
for tip #5 it’s actually very helpful if you do the colors based off of the color scheme of your drawing. for example if you have a more cooler color scheme (ex. blue, purple) then you could put the color over the face like the video, it’ll fit. and if you have a more warmer color scheme, (ex. orange, red) like how your drawing was, you can invert the colors. start with orange, and then blue in the middle. that’ll work too
Tip one just doesn't work with your program! I've used a bunch of art programs (medibang, ibispaint, procreate, paint tool sai, csp, krita) and the select outside lineart -> invert -> fill method is generally the easiest way to fill the silhouette. I'm pretty sure it just doesn't work on Procreate because Procreate's select function is kind of bad.
First tip really only applies to specific styles and programs, like she said you can away with it better if you have thicker lines. But what also matters is the content awareness of your select tools. For exmaple, IbisPaints, Krita and MS Paint have pretty good content awareness on their’ sleect so the metjod functions fine with them. Also fittingly you may see alot of speedpainters that use those programs use that specific method for colouring.
6:20 Actually stick figures are super helpful for me! They help me get the proportions right. Starting a new drawing can be hard so I start with something easy and simple like stick figures and then add a more and more details and usually that helps. Idk I’m still kinda new to drawing poses and anatomy so might not be helpful to people who have a lot more practice than me but it’s worth a try :)
Im surprised you didn't know abt tip 5??? It was literally trending back in 2022(?) especially on tiktok and insta. Everyone along with their grandma use it. I still use it alot until this time, it made my art looks more interesting ig
The first one does work, you just didn't watch till the end.. right? I tried it out after clipping it and I could colour smoothly without anything going outside my line art.
I didn’t say it didn’t work , I just said that filling the character’s silhouette this way doesn’t really work for my lineart and leaves the rough edges, so I wanted to just try that part out as I’ve never done it that way. The second part i guess I just didn’t find that interesting and decided to not include that in the video as it just says to use a clipping mask to color inside the shape which I didn’t think needed any checking, as it isn’t even a hack, it’s just a basic tool that I use all the time and I already know it works , but I should’ve at least read that last part out loud , that’s my bad 😅
@@vesperayoshinaga I've used that trick in Paint Tool SAI for years with thick and thin lineart, and it works pretty well. Fill tools do tend to vary from program to program, so I think the issue is just that Procreate's kinda sucks lmao
@@vesperayoshinaga Oh yeah, for sure. Procreate (the program she seems to use) is not good at filling in lineart at all. Ibis Paint X is way more reliable on that end.

4:07 For traditional artists, the equivalent to flipping your canvas would be turning your work upside down, also try walking away from it and seeing the bigger picture, that’s what my teacher used to tell us
The one site with the dots helps your eye to hand coordination where to put your lines. It's like an exercise more so than actual reference. It's kinda like "tracing" but instead you draw the body yourself, making you have to learn how to forshorten and do angles you usually wouldn't see in reference pictures. It also makes so you don't rely looking at a reference.
As a traditional artist (that also does some digital art), I feel like the best alternative to flipping your canvas for irl art is to just take a picture of it. When I take a picture of my art, I instantly can see my mistakes
I do the fill thing from the first tip but on csp, before I invert the selection I expand it by 1 pixel and then when I invert and fill it's under the line not on the edge giving it a clean look
I do agree with the box one It's helpful but only if you're being taught how to use it qnd practiced it but it just feels so complicated for drawing as you said leave thses line for the architect
Not all art tips are “bad” on Pinterest, I think you just found the not so good ones, Pinterest art tips are just TH-cam shirts, TikTok, instagram and all in one lol, and I think yours didn’t really work so good bc of your art style and line work
Hello!! TH-cam just put this on me for the first time AND I just had to say that your art looks EXACTLY like i thought it would from seeing your face for 5sec. ( its a compliment )
I managed to do the first tip without the lines looking bad! (I use Ibis paint x) What I do is: I select all the outside as the tip says, then I go to the selection layer (usually at the top of everything) I select the bucket tool and touch the selected area (so the selection is a bit above the lines, but not covering them completely) then I do the rest, maybe it works because I draw with thick lines but I hope this works!
Here’s my advice. It takes a LONG time to find good set hacks and tutorials, I have to do research on the tutorial and look at it myself fully before putting it onto my board.
This was a great video! I think for the last art tip, you could've chosen a more portrait-style piece that you've drawn to test it out on, because the lighting would make more sense
Hi I'm a new fan of your works! I've been binge-watching your videos and I learned new tips since I also use Procreate. You inspired me to do more portraits and I can't wait for more of your videos!
the first art tip only looks pixelated because its selected when u draw like usual it should not be pixelated and should look smooth. Well atleast mine is smooth

You can also do it with clip studio paint. Speaking from experience you might have to finagle the brush a bit but once you get it down all you'll have to do is some minor clean up
no. it's almost definitely the lineart. If you put the threshold to a higher % it will be less choppy, it helps with thicker/more opaque lineart.
@@Dennokopfan yeah that is true, but also i’ve noticed that ibis paint is a lot better at staying in spaces even if the lines aren’t super opaque
For traditional artists yall can just point your drawing to a mirror or take a photo and flip it :3
