    Question: Is white (grey, platinum, silver, glitter, whatever euphemism you want) more likely to higher porosity? Any other likely characteristics? Asking for a friend. 😜

    • @raraavis7782
      @raraavis7782 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Many people report them to be more wiry, although personally, I can't confirm that. I have quite a lot of white at age 41 and don't notice a difference in texture or wave pattern. I have thick 'horsehair' to begin with, though. Maybe it's different for people with fine hair.

    • @EmmaLemmon
      @EmmaLemmon 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My white hairs seem slightly more porous than the others. They are concentrated more at the front/temples so I don't know if that makes a difference. Using more product and oil in that area seems to help a lot to prevent them fluffing out too much. My hair is fine and much better condition since I stopped dying it, i have ringlets again 😁

    • @JuliaJohnGirl
      @JuliaJohnGirl 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@raraavis7782 I think mine used to be like that (I would feel it when individual hairs fell out and hit my shoulder) but either I don’t notice it anymore or it’s less wiry. I keep wondering if I should automatically assume that it is dryer, more fragile, or more porous now that it is mostly naturally white, or if I should keep trying to “listen” to it. I swear that my ears still work pretty good, but my ability to discern the needs of my hair has me feeling like my “hearing” abilities are kaput.

    • @ManesByMell
      @ManesByMell  3 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      White hair: high porosity
      Grey hair: low porosity

    Where have your videos been all my life? Seriously, I needed this video like... 55 years ago. Grew up having my hair treated as a problem for my parents to solve as quickly and cheaply as possible. That continued on into adulthood, since I had no other mental model for it, and having it shaved off in military basic training gave me an option to fall back on occasionally over the next few decades. Didn't start to see my hair differently until I was in my late 40s, and it wasn't until I was in my 50s and growing it long while in covid lockdown that I really started making an effort to take care of it properly. So much I have to learn, though. Started watching your channel a month or two ago and have been picking up all kinds of info, and this video is packed with even more that I didn't know. Thank you!

    I really learned about the way hair changes as I've gotten more silver! My silvers need moisture, but moisture that makes my silver happy overloads my non-silvers. My solution, use a deep conditioner for up to 10 minutes whenever I wash but mix in aittle of Botanika The Mender protein treatment, and I don't use a leave in conditioner. Gives both my silvers and non-silvers what they need.

Also when my hair is dry after a wash and go its super short and I havent cut it, the strans are also verry verry thin. I always stretch my hair and always done that but now when I stretch it it shrinks back up in les than 15 min. My wash and go would last a week and now it doesn’t even last 2 days. This is like a “greatest hits video!” The advice on the brushing is so spot on, probably one of the most important things
    Did you ever cover neck hair and why is such an issue? I don’t recall. All I know is, my canopy is easier to tame than my neck hair, sometimes I have to use products made for coily hair to tame it. If I do the pineapple, if I use a bonnet makes no difference.
    P.S. As you get older, hair can be high porosity for no reason other than age.

      the hair around my neck is a looser curl, closer to 3b, but it always gets tangled and frizzy so i relate to having to use different products. also i was just born with high porosity hair 🤷‍♀️

      Don't give up, everything great takes time. I understand your frustration. It is called a journey because it is literally a rollercoaster of ups and downs. However their is light at the end of the tunnel and your hair will improve. I have thought very similarly to you. My hair now has a routine and is finely predictable and beautiful. I suggest stop purchasing. Focus on your technique and working with the purchases you have already made. Though most of all I recommend you give your curls the time they need to fully recover and blossom.

      @@rachellep2581 i plan to experiment with pre pooing, fenugreek supplements, and using something super heavy to seal in the moisture cause my ends are dry and i fear constantly wetting my hair to manage it will stress it with hygral fatigue.

    🥰I am starting to think my hair is just bossy. Will not be rushed to dry. If it dries on its own it is shiny. If i try to rush it or with most products it looks dull. Like really. What in the world. Just A Bossy Head of Curls. It does what it wants & responds to what it wants to. Also, quite the little diamond. UnLike me it likes the pressure.
    Products that seem to actually "squeeze" the water & clump the curls plump like (happily not stringy) leave a horrid feeling/residue my fingers cannot stand. Shall put a shiny gel on top.🤗Ha that was a good ramble i just dropped. Part 2 Part 2...

    This is so helpful & a video I’m saving to reference again if I need it. Please do a part 2!
    I am confused on one part (it could be the recent epipen though). I’m not fully understanding the difference between not separating the scalp & camouflage. Could you explain what you mean by not separate? I have fine low density hair & when I started blow drying your way with changing head positions, it gave me much more volume & definition.
    BTW, your rhyming skill gives quite a thrill, not just today but in every way.
    Thanks for all the help you give us. You are so appreciated!

    My worst hair days are usually my work days since it's so easy to get sweaty/warm (especially with wearing face masks) & I'm in a dim lit room all day (massage therapist), so I tend to not be as worried what I look like & have my hair up in whatever ways I can keep all the hairs from being on my face or neck. I will say that I tend to do mostly air drying lately with having less time to devote to blow drying or I don't want to be noisy if the rest of the household is still sleeping. But considering that fact, hair still is doing better on those no blow days than they ever did before I found your channel.

    • @raraavis7782
      @raraavis7782 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You gotta describe your styling method and products used in more detail, for people to help you. And by 'soft', do you mean healthy and silky or stringy and lifeless?
      My first guess would be, you need a stronger gel, that leaves a real cast. Without that, my hair shows it's potential for waves and even curls, when wet, but immediately flattens upon drying. Protein treatments can also give your curlpattern a 'boost'.
