Car enthusiasts say it all the time its a rather famous quote that i don't think anyone knows the source of. ( Its often more fun to drive a slow car fast than one that's meant to be fast. ) The original quote was in reference to cars like Mazda Miata's. where you can be squealing the tires around corners at WOT with a smile of your face not having to go deadly speeds in order to hit that limit. The same thing definitely applies to dirt bikes. Bombing around on a 110 with your buddies will put a bigger smile on your face than trying to push the limits of a 250. pushing the limits of a 250-450 takes actual work and focus. you can max out a 110 while laughing your ass off halfway distracted and intoxicated lol. not that im advising it.

I've always felt that the mini manufacturers are really missing out on the off-road market by not offering enduro models below the 125 2T class. KTM did offer an XC version years ago, but if I recall, it really wasn't that much different from the 85 and 105 SX minis. Based on the recent boom of single track, hard enduro and hare scramble popularity, I'd like to see them give the same treatment and R&D to a mini version as they do the bigger bikes: lower gearing, suspension, larger tank, kickstand, maybe even a different head and a flywheel weight. It could even be a really cool project to promote via the Gas Gas brand.

I raced professional motocross 60’s-70’s. Bultaco, Maico, Husky, Puch, Montessa, CZ, Jawa, and others. I raced Montesa 125 and CZ 400. The good ole days until Japan took over for the most part. I am older now. I bought a 2022 YZ 85 as I wanted to touch the ground. I wanted something less than 200 pounds as I weigh only 150, 5’7”. That is perfect for me. It rips. My friend has a street trail Suzuki 450 and the 85 wins like he is standing still
Until around 60 mph. The YZ 85 similar power to weight as YZ 125. I love 2 strokes. The smell and light weight. I own a Super Duke 1290r and a MV AGusta Dragster 800 rr Pirelli edition. I also have a heavy, slow Grom. I love my YZ 85

More power that's wasted by how inefficient two strokes are. Might make more power on paper but that means nothing. On a track 4 strokes will eat 2 strokes.
85 is geared much shorter that also helps with acceleration. Its like the people who claim 250 2ts will out run a 450.

@@trevor866 i have seen tons of videos of 2 strokes destroying 4 strokes on tracks in an open class event. If 2 strokes were allowed in pro motocross and supercross they would have a solid chance. It takes a rider that knows how to ride a 2 stroke! If 4 strokes are so efficient then why does it take 2X the cc's to produce the same horsepower. Love hearing guys say their 450 will beat your 250. Its twice the motor LMAO!

A 125 2 stroke is another bike with 6 gears and it will start pulling away from the 80 at about 50 miles an hour top out about 70 and a 5-speed 250 2 stroke is about the same as the 125 it's just made for a bigger person

I think the 85 occasionally seems faster because it’s peak power is at a much lower rpm. The new 250s are making all their power at the tippy top. Meanwhile KTMs race 2 strokes make all their power a good 2 or 3 thousand below redline. So it’s easier for the 85 to see peak hp on the trails. But on a track or straight line there’s no comparison

Looks like colorado im a local near Vail!
On another note, I own a New 6 speed 300cc sportbike and my friend owns a 1998 5 speed 750cc Honda shadow, mine beats him to 70 mph every single time before he levels out and will start to gain. Mine weighs 350 his is 500 though. Mines fuel injected his is carb. But he literally has 2.5 of my engines.
Technology is amazing. My first bike was a kx125 2 stroke and it was crazy fun

best times riding I can remember was with my posse of 6-7 guys on 80/85cc 2 strokes around age 12. Drag racing, wheelie sessions, burning out on peoples driveways getting chased by the trash man

Nice video, do the xc trail bikes have a different gearing to the mx bikes? If the 85s still on standard track gearing it could have kept up a little better because the 4stroke is geared for trails?🤷🏽‍♂️

  • @brendantremmel479
    @brendantremmel479 3 ปีที่แล้ว

If we’re talking about top speed, it would make sense that the 250 is slower than the 85. Those 250Fs are all geared short as hell for that incredible low end grunt.
Edit: I also totally agree with your assessment of how a 250 feels. I ride a 2015 YZ250F on the street pretty often and at half throttle in 5th my buddy can keep up pretty well on his 85. And I don’t like beating on bikes too much, but once you get on it you realize just how much room you have left until you hit the limiter. Definitely an advantage that 4-strokes have over 2-strokes if you ask me...

Guy at work got a yz80 and we figured it will do like 65 mph. No kid on a yz80 needs to go 65 mph lol. Most full size dirt bikes are only geared for about 70. The horsepower to weight ratio has gotta be pretty good when you only weigh 90 pounds.

I am 17 but I'm honestly thinking about buying an 85cc bike. Because it's small, fits in my garage and seems fun tbh. I am not really heavy (65kg) but I don't know if the suspension would be too soft for me

Personally I wouldn’t I’m 15 and average height for my age and sitting on an 85 feels really uncomfortable compared to a full size bike so personally I would rather get a 125 if I were you

Now these bikes aren't faster but it's all rider. Surprised after watching how fast Kyle's sons bikes are on top end. I'd like to see Kyle learn how to do a moto start, his son might have a better shot at blowing the 250f away
