    I really liked the Baycruiser, both the slightly old style look of the hull and some of the interior design choices too - that stowable galley was a great idea. I'd never buy a new boat, but would be interested to see how the used market looks for this one.

  • @fabienh3943
    @fabienh3943 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    That Baycruiser was an unknown to me and put a smile on my face by its stunning interior and some good ideas. My heart goes to the Seascape - First 24 type of boats, but First 24 or 27, if great sailing fun, still are weekenders at about 100 000 - 130 000€ complete. That's a lot of money for a daysailer. Most new racy cabin boats (mostly French? German or from the Balcan area) are bloody expensive these days. The price of small serie production or the trend and marketing???
    Shame the Polish boats are never really tested or compared (they are almost always tested on lakes at 2Bft...) as they seem to be the only real cost limiting alternative.

  • @EasyTigerII
    @EasyTigerII 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    It is a pity that Beneteau abandoned the First 21.7/Twenty series boats as these were much more affordable. Plenty of second hand out there, of course, but the new Seascape/First series are quite expensive and IMHO are really for the race market. Interesting you chose the Swallow Yachts 26 over their Coast 250 which seems a more attractive boat yet shares many of the ideas. Interesting video.

      It's incredible how boat prices have evolved over the years. The sailing experience on a Potter sounds like a lot of fun. With today's market, what do you think would be a reasonable price for a similar sailing package, considering your past experience?

    • @keving4081
      @keving4081 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That same boat being a fresh water boat , 9.8 Evinrude.and trailer might be worth 8k today. They are pretty rare in the Northeast. I purchased a 17' slipper w/ fixed keel and trailer 4 years ago for $2500 another freshwater boat in excellent condition. The cockpit is longer than the 19 Potter and no dagger board in the cabin. The Vberth headroom is very tight (kids only) but the quarter berths are the same as the Potter. Have not sailed it yet.

      A new Flying Scot will start at around $30,000, and even as a FS enthusiast I can agree that is kind of a ridiculous price to pay for a boat you can't sleep aboard and which doesn't come with any auxiliary motor. But a *used* Flying Scot can also usually be found for a much more reasonable price, and they're sturdy enough to still be safe and fun.
      Maybe a follow-up video on how to find a good used daysailer is in order?

  • @sillynut2958

    Nice video but pricing is way off. The Swallow Yachts Bay Cruiser 26 starts at over 100k USD before any options. Video suggests it cost well below 80k and is off by about 75%.

    Nice review but I would only chose one on the list, the Voyager 20, which is not in production due to a Chinese co destroying the company. The potter designer and previous company owner created a new company called Ventura Sport Boats, they build the Malbec 18 and a new boat at 23 ft. The rest of the boats on your list I would hardly call trailer-ables, that is boats that are light and easy to launch. As for the Scott and RS boat, there are a lot more boats in that category. Hobie Cat has great beach cats and sailing trimaran kayak (Tandem Island).

    I don't think you understand what is considered affordable. Maybe for middle/upper middle class and up but that is a lot of money for just a small day sailor. I've seen nice 35 to 41 foot sailboats that are under 30K and only need minor cosmetic work, but 30K for a 20 foot dingey is ridiculous. Next time try 5 to max 10K, that's affordable!

      @@HarbourMastersTV i lived on one for a summer (it was kept in doc). It does more than a few things right. It just found the balance in not trying to create a forward bedroom, and doesn't feel slummy either. It also has a cousin version, the pacific seacraft 31, 100% the same layout, but with a second bed tucked in the aft. The only thing that keeps it from being perfect would be a smarter head, maybe even allowing a separate shower or some way of sectioning off the sink area with a hard surface. Its what drives me crazy about smaller sail boats, i don't want everything getting wet when i shower. If they pulled that off, i would consider it the perfect pocket cruiser.

    Its never good value buying a brand new yacht or day sailor. Used, 2nd or even better 3rd hand is much better. You usually get lots of extras and any design faults are usually ironed out or improved. You can always save 1000s of dollars or pounds sterling.

    Thanks. Yet understand salvage yards are less. Price. The. Question why does. The. Price always. Keep. Children. Off. The. Boat . The. Ownership..doesn't come with stress. No stores. Along the. Sea nor. The understanding. Not affordable . Electric sail boats are new. Question veteran benefits need to included. Who served their country.

    • @HarbourMastersTV
      @HarbourMastersTV  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I understand your concerns about the cost of boat ownership and how it can sometimes deter people, especially when considering salvage yards as a more affordable option. The absence of stores along the sea can add logistical challenges. However, many boat owners find great joy and fulfillment in the boating experience, as it offers a unique connection to nature and the freedom to explore the open waters.
      As for veteran benefits, it is important to recognize and support those who have served their country. While specific benefits and programs vary by region, there may be opportunities for veterans to access certain resources or incentives related to boat ownership. It's worth exploring the available options to determine if any veteran benefits can be applied to your purchase or ownership of a boat.
      It's essential to thoroughly research and consider all aspects before making a decision that aligns with your needs and goals.
